Cairn Terrier Association Championship Show. 19th November 2005

Many thanks to the CTA for inviting me to Judge their Championship Show on the 19th November at Winsford, may I also thank my stewards Roy Tester and Peter Owen for their excellent work making sure everythingran smoothly in the ring.

Bitches as usual were stronger in quality than the males. The Males continue to disappoint, there is no depth of quality, especially in the lower classes, however several lovely dogs puppies may, hopefully, auger well for the future.

Poor heads were my main concern; narrow skulls, round eyes, long muzzles and incorrectly placed ears were faults I found in too many exhibits. As someone who loves to see a Cairn with that beautiful expressive head I was dispirited to find these poor heads prevalent in the breed. Movement in general has not improved and there were a few doubtful mouths. On the plus side I thought coats were better, few of the ultra short coats that was becoming the norm.

Veteran Dog or Bitch ( 8, 5a )

1st Wall’s Ch Shearwater Cae De Sonhas, 7 year old red brindle who can still trouble the best, in grand form, looking as good as I have seen him, typy head and expression, well balanced with nice length of back, in good coat and condition, showed and moved well.

2nd Bradshaw’s Tweslam Magic Time, another 7 years male, red brindle, nice head, showed well, in good double coat, moved well both ways.

3rd Jennings Doonrae Virtuoso.

Minor Puppy Dog ( 8, 3a )

1st   Hughes Gyncairn Rock-N-Roll, wheaten, confident 8month old puppy, lovely typy head with neat ears, cheeky expression, good length of neck and leg, firm topline, well balanced, showed well and moved truly both ways.

2nd Shannon& Storr’s Brenndarcy Sundance Kid, upstanding wheaten, nearly 9 months, has attractive head with dark points, good reach of neck, well balanced, coat of correct texture, good size, very close decision, 1 just held outline on the move a bit better.

3rd Cameron’s Stryveling Robb Ruadh.

Puppy Dog ( 3)

1st Shopland’s Cherrycrack Mack The Knife, wheaten brindle, impressive 9 month puppy with a most lovely outline, good head with keen expression, which will look even better once he get more furnishings, lovely reach of neck, good layback of shoulder, level topline and good tailset, in beautiful coat and condition, owner should have some fun with this male next year.

2nd Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Gold Finch, red, 10 month old, nice head with a lovely dark eye, well balanced, nice size, in good double coat, good mover and was a happy showman.

3rd  Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Dicey Business.

Junior Dog  ( 6, 2a )

1st Firths & Jones Cairngold Cosmonaut, red brindle, quality youngster with lovely head and keen expression, neat ears, good neck, topline and tailset, in good coat, free mover, good proportions, excellent showman and with maturity should trouble the best.

2nd Braybrooks Play The Game, very smart wheaten brindle with dark points, masculine head, typy     expression, good each of neck and level topline, well balanced, in lovely coat and condition, nice size.

3rd Thompson’s Castleline Jackard.

Maiden Dog  (2, 1a)

1st Uniquecottage Gold Finch,

Novice Dog  (5, 2a)

1st Peers Tweedisle That Special Man, 2 year old red brindle, has a beautiful head, but wish he would use his ears when on the move, good mouth, in good full double coat, good bone, moved truly both ways and showed steadily.

2nd Frost’s Penticharm Black Jack, dark brindle, 20 months old, not the head of 1, good reach of neck and level topline, moved and showed well, good length of neck and leg but I would like a little more bone, smart keen shower.

3rd Hawkins Kilnyard Archie Spangles.

Undergraduate Dog  (no entries)

Graduate Dog (2)

1st Birch’s Kinkim Kernul, 2 year old, very smart wheaten with dark points, good neck, level back and tailset, kept topline on the move, good bone with nice length of leg, moved truly both ways, excellent showman.

2nd Poile’s Kedvaiy Harlequin, deep red, quality male with attractive head and expression, well balanced, good double coat which was nicely presented, I have admired this young dog from the ringside but on the day he was leaning on the lead and I could not assess his movement and this also spoilt his topline on the move, pity, hope he gets his act together soon.

Post Graduate Dog (4, 1a)

1st Chambers Cairngrove Red Rascal, red, smart 2 year old in full double coat, beautifully balanced head with typy expression, good neck, topline and tailset, nicely constructed, good size, moved and showed really well.

2nd Felters & Rumens Landbuck Little Tyke, red brindle, youngster just out of junior, quality dog with lovely head and expression, nice reach of neck, good shoulders, topline and tailset, not putting all in today.

3rd Smith’s Rocasovale Good Luck Charm.

Limit Dog (8, 6a)

1st. Brown’s Cruzo Gold Charmer, eye catching red with a most lovely typy head and expression, dark eye, neat ears, good shoulders, well balanced, in lovely double coat of correct texture which was well presented, good angulation, very smart showman and kept his outline standing and on the move.

2nd Fairweather’s Ock Ross I’m The Boss, dark brindle, attractive head with wicked expression, in good full double coat, nice reach of neck and good topline, good bone, moved well both ways, different type to 1, but a quality dog,

Open Dog (5,3a) lovely class, would have been happy to award any one of them the CC.

1st Middlehurst’s Ch Cannwood As If By Magic to Starveren, red brindle, 2 years old, beautiful cairn with classic head and expression, neat ears, excellent reach of neck, good layback of shoulders, level topline with good tailset, correct size, all is in proportion, moved with enthusiasm, today he had to be on top form and he was, showed all out and was a picture standing and on the move, CC and BIS.

2nd Karlson’s Int & Multi Ch Kramer’s Night Rider, wheaten, 3 years old, another top class male, handles well on the table and is a balanced free moving dog who is an excellent showman, he never put a foot wrong and was handled and presented in top form, little divides these two and I was splitting hairs, but for me the head of Magic gave him the edge, RCC.

3rd Weinberger’s Correnie Altissimo.

Special Beginners Dog(4, 2a)

1st Tweslam Magic Time.

2nd Kilnyard Archie      Spangles, red, just out of puppy and needs a bit more experience in the ring, in good double coat, level topline, would like a bit more length of leg.

Minor Puppy Bitch(10, 3a)

1st Weinberger’s Correnie Rosie Glow, red brindle, attractive 6 month baby with lovely head and expression, neat ears, nice reach of neck, good topline and tailset, rangy at the moment but shows a lot of promise.

2nd Smee’s Malmay Can I Come In, 7 months, very dark brindle, loved her head, real wicked expression, liked her reach of neck and length of leg, nice size, moved well in front but a little close behind, showed with confidence.

3rd Middlehurst’s Cannwood Camilla.

Puppy Bitch (7, 3a)

1st Shaw’s Honeyhall Head Over Heels, truly lovely wheaten puppy, only 9 months but already an accomplished showgirl, typy head with appealing expression, neat ears, well balanced and moves truly both ways, has classic outline, coat not at its best but I considered her strongly for the RCC. Best Puppy.

2nd Poile’s Kedvaig Mayling, deep red, 9 months, another beautiful feminine baby with attractive head and expression, good neck, topline and tailset, in lovely coat and condition, very smart and stylish on the move, showed well.

3rd Shannon’s & Storrs Brenndarcy Polly Flinders.

Junior Bitch (13, 5a)

1st Mear’s Glenmear Marcuella, 14 month red brindle, good head with dark mask, very alert expression, nice shoulders, topline and tailset, firm body, good bone, in lovely coat and condition, stands well, nice outline, moved well with good reach in front, animated showgirl.

2nd Felters & Rumens Landbuck Heidi Claire, red brindle, another lovely bitch, in excellent double coat, close up to 1, typy head and expression, good reach of neck and length of leg, well balanced, showed well.

3rd Cameron’s Stryveling Georgie Girl.

Maiden Bitch (6,4a)

1st Thompson’s Castleline Calico, wheaten brindle, lovely head with dark points, free mover, well balanced with nice length of leg, in good double coat, enjoyed showing.

2nd Marshall’s Strathgarten Kenmilfore Lady Marmalade, red, plainer in head tan 1 and would like bit more length of leg, in good coat, moved and showed well.

Novice Bitch (2, 1a)

1st Haukatsalo-Irving Cairngold Cassis At Haukantorppa, dark brindle, nice size, good head with keen expression, in good double coat, showed with enthusiasm, front movement did not please.

Undergraduate Bitch (2)

1st Petts Cannwood Kasta Spell at Doonrae, dark red brindle, good head with nice reach of neck, level topline, well balanced bitch of correct size, in lovely coat and condition, moved and showed really well, so full of life, a really extrovert showgirl.

2nd Peer’s Tweedisle Smitten By Gold, wheaten 2 year old, pretty head with typy expression, bit short of coat, moved ok.

Graduate Bitch (5, 2a)

1st Dolan’s Glenrood Dusty Pipit, dark brindle, nice head and expression, moved very well both ways, very smart and showy, in good condition but coat a bit short, nice outline standing and moving.

2nd Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Gold Tarka, red brindle, heavier bone than 1, good neck, shoulders and topline, in very full coat of good texture, moved truly both ways, moved round the ring ok but was a bit unsettled on the table.

3rd Haukatsalo-Irving Copseleaze Here’s Me At Haukantorppa.

Post Graduate Bitch (14, 3a)

1st Hooton’s Penticharm Deep Secret, 2 year old wheaten brindle, quality head with dark eye and neat ears, good neck and shoulders, level topline with good tailset, nicely constructed and moved really well, in good double coat, showed well.

2nd Ward’s Vanajam Hokcus Pokcus, another classy bitch who oozes type, has a most lovely outline, good reach of neck and length of leg, good tailset, very showy, moves soundly and with style, close decision but she was needing more head furnishing to complete the picture.

3rd Weinberger’s Correnie Irresistible.

Limit Bitch (12, 2a)

1st Templeton’s Larchlea Remember Remember, very dark brindle, 2 years old, lovely head and expression, good mouth, straight front and nice layback of shoulder, good bone, well presented coat, sound bitch who moved round the ring with ease, showed steadily, for me she is well up to size but her other qualities made her worthy of the RCC.

2nd Weinberger’s Correnie Hi Lily, quality red brindle, lovely feminine head with typy expression, good neck, topline and tailset, well balanced, moved truly both ways, in good well presented double coat of correct texture, showed well, unlucky to meet 1.

3rd Shopland’s Cherrycrack Chasing Aimee.

Open Bitch (10, 6a)

1st Ward’s Vanajam Piewaket, very dark brindle who took my eye the moment she entered the ring, feminine head and expression, good mouth, lovely reach of neck, level topline and good tailset, well constructed and the size I like, smart and on her toes all the time, she flowed round the ring and never let up showing, she was in sparkling form, demanded the CC and got it.

2nd Keeves Seveek Chasing Dreams, cream, very showy but was not in the best of coats today, good length of neck and leg, level topline, well balanced, good bone, moved well behind but a little loose in front.

3rd Inett’s Curtisey Foreign Affair At Carradine.

Special Beginners Bitch(6, 2a)

1st Copseleaze Here’s Me At Haukantorppa, red brindle, good head, nice neck and topline, in good coat and condition, moved and showed well,

2nd Soper’s Glenmear Michelle at Elitecharm, grey brindle with dark mask, nice size, good outline, not in best of coats and needs more hair on legs to complete the picture, showed well.

3rd Bradshaw’s Newfield Heather Honey.
