Judge: Mrs. Suzanne Drew (L'Artiste)

I would like to thank the committee of the CTA for inviting me to judge, and the exhibitors who entered under me. I was thrilled with my entry, and I had some lovely Cairns to go over. Generally the quality of Cairns presented was good, and I was very pleased with my overall winners. However, I did find some long in foreface, which is not correct, also some fairly large ears, both of which spoil the typical Cairn head. Coats were good, and even those not in their ‘Sunday Best’, as is usual with the change of the season, were still correct and weather proof.

Class 1. Veteran – 4 entries, 1 absent

1 st. 40 - Smith’s Glenmear Sproxton Lass of Gethlee – A dark 7 year old good sized bitch with good Cairn expression. Correct dentition, good stop and width of skull. Good front and topline. Excellent coat, although rather a lot of it. Retained topline on the move.

2nd. 14 – Kinchin’s Carradine Ruby Tuesday at Pennidazzle – Another 7 year old bitch, smaller than 1, but again with a pleasing head and correct ear placement. Good reach of neck into shoulders, but not the topline or movement of 1.

3rd. 1 - Bateman & Sach’s Dandi Boy Spud.

Class 2. Minor Puppy Dog – 2 entries, 1 absent

1 st . 11 -Harrison’s Carradine Whiskey Oscar – 8 month red boy. Nice size for his age with correct coat, and dark points adding to that typical Cairn ‘mischievous expression’. Good stop and width of skull. excellent forechest and good shoulder placement, with correct hind angulation to give balanced movement, which was true coming and going. Happy to award him Best Puppy in Show and he will be one to watch.

Class 3. Puppy Dog – 1 entry, 1 absent

Class 4. Junior Dog – 2 entries, 1 absent

1 st . 13 - Keeves’ Seveek Treasure the Dream – a just 12 month old red boy. Good proportions, and typical Cairn head with good stop, width of skull, and neat ears. Good forechest, shoulders and hind angulation. Moved true.

Class 5. Novice Dog – 2 entries, 1 absent.

1 st. 27 – Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Grey Balm – A lovely brindle boy, up to size with good quality profuse coat. Nice head, correct dentition, width and length of muzzle, and defined stop. Good forechest, but a little short in upper arm. Good spring of rib, hind angulation and tail set. Not the most co-operative on the move.

Class 6. Post Graduate Dog – 3 entries.

1 st. 15 – Kinchin’s Pennidazzle All Spruced Up – A dark brindle boy with good proportions and a lovely Cairn expression. Correct length of muzzle, width of skull, with dark eyes and well placed neat ears. Good reach of neck, adequate front, topline improved on the move as he woke up!

2nd. 31 – Peers’ Tweedisle Lively Lad – A wheaten boy, of correct size with a good harsh coat. Nice stop, but foreface a little long which lost that typical Cairn look. Good forechest, spring of rib and tail placement. Moved freely, but preferred head of 1.

3rd. 35 – Purvis’s Mighty Rearranger with Mosspur.

Class 7. Open Dog – 4 entries, 2 absent.

1 st. 28 – Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Silver Askin – A grey brindle boy of medium size. Balanced outline and correct proportions. Lovely dark points on a typical Cairn head. Good quality coat. Well made with correct front and rear angulation, good spring of rib and well muscled thighs. Moved with drive, true in all directions. Pleased to award him Best Dog and Best Opposite Sex.

2nd. 32 – Peers Tweedisle Tugman – A wheaten boy with a good harsh coat, and attractive dark points. A little bigger than 1. Nice dark eye, and defined stop, but I would have preferred a slightly shorter foreface and smaller ears. Good reach of neck into level topline, but didn’t move his best today.

Class 8 – Special Beginners – 4 entries, 2 absent.

1 st. 20 – Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Call Me Aggie – Pretty feminine head, dark eye, correct dentition, well presented and a credit to her handler.

2nd. 35 - Purvis’s Mighty Rearranger with Mosspur. Up to size wheaten boy. Strong bone, correct harsh coat, but didn’t move as well on the day.

Class 9. Minor Puppy Bitch – 3 entries, 1 absent.

1 st. 29 – Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Silver Agnes – Pretty wheaten bitch, with lovely feminine head with good stop and neat ears. Correct double coat. Good reach of neck and correct forechest. Nice balanced outline.

2nd. 12 – Harrison’s Carradine Winnie – A red girl of nice proportions. Correct head and ear set, with dark eye. Not much to choose between the two, and they were both obviously enjoying their day!

Class 10. Puppy Bitch - 1 entry, 1 absent.

Class 11. Junior Bitch – 4 entries.

1 st. 44 – Thompson’s Glenrood Love in a Mist – Wheaten with correct head and expression, good stop, width of skull and neat ears. Good front and spring of rib, moved true both ways. Not always cooperating with her handler!

2nd. 39 – Shopland’s Cherrycrack Fair Rosamund – I preferred the head on this bitch, lovely expression and good coat. Movement wasn’t as good as 1st today.

3rd. 37 – Robert’s Cannwood Chance the Moment.

Class 12. Novice Bitch – 4 entries, 2 absent.

1 st. 36 – Purvis’s Mosspurr Time After Time – Brindle bitch with correct Cairn head and expression. Good mouth, nice front and excellent coat. Moved well.

2nd. 20 - Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Call Me Aggie – my first from class 8.

Class 13. Post Graduate Bitch – 7 entries, 2 absent.

1 st. 9 – Dolan’s Glenrood Burlesque – A dark brindle bitch of correct size with absolutely typical Cairn head. Lovely expression. Good reach of neck, forechest and shoulder placement, level topline and matching correct hind angulation. Good tailset. Excellent coat, superbly presented. Her balanced construction enabled her to cover the ground with ease. Very pleased to award her Best Bitch and Best in Show.

2nd. 30 – Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Fennel – A lovely red brindle bitch. Another lovely typical Cairn head, with correct mouth, stop and width of skull. Good harsh coat. A well made Cairn, but without the drive of 1st today.

3rd. 6 – Claton’s Carradine Here Comes Dolly.

Class 14. Open Bitch – 4 entries, 1 absent.

1 st . 10 - Dolan’s Glenrood Spell Dance – Another dark brindle bitch with correct Cairn head and lively expression. Lovely front, good spring of rib and correct hind angulation. Level topline and good tailset. Excellent movement, and pushed hard for Best Bitch, and could change places on another day.

2nd. 23 – Osborn’s Tweslam Born to Bewitch – Wheaten bitch with a good head and expression. Correct front, topline and tailset. Although I would prefer less length of leg, she moved well.

3rd. 41 – Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn at Gethlee.
