Joint Cairn Terrier Clubs Open Show, 15th July 2008, Hasland Village Hall , Derbyshire

As we aspiring judges make our way up the ladder, we can only hope to get good appointments and quality Cairns to go over and judge. I was thrilled when the CTA asked me to Judge the Joint Cairn Terrier Clubs Open Show. I was also thrilled with my dogs. I only had two “Iffy” mouths but found plenty of forechest & good stops. Movement was on the whole ok. But gosh did I get some beautifully presented and superb headed exhibits, In our breed standard dark points are said to be “Very typical”, they really do make for a wonderful expression. No problem with temperaments today. I was shocked to find a couple of glinting green eyes but was relieved when told they had just been for veterinary eye testing!

Veteran Dog (3,1a)

1.     Roberts’ Ch Cannwood Augurey, 7yr old cream, lovely outline and coat in good condition, nice size, moved and showed well. BVIS

2.  Jennings’ Doonrae Virtuoso, I’ve always admired this 12yr old grey Brindle, he has an excellent head and expression, still a good dog to go over. Lost out on movement of one.

 MPD (4)

1.    Inett & Harrison’s Noncom Inett To Winnit With Carradine, fell in love with this up to size 9months old wheaten who oozes confidence, his head is his fortune, he has those desirable dark points, well set on ears, good deep stop, excellent mouth with large teeth giving that wonderfully appealing expression. Super coat  He moved steady fore and aft, such a lovely cheery character who even at this young age was in tune with his handler. My BPIS

2.    Marshall’s Strathgarten Crackerjack. Red 8 month old. Another lovely boy with lots of confidence, Good coat texture, well constructed, moved and showed well when focused, love his well made strong rear. Excellent mouth with large teeth. Lost out to one on head today, which will come.

3.    Landbuck Colour Code

PD (1,1a)

 JD (2)

1.    Moseley & Inett’s Spawyche Elizabethan Onyx. Wheaten with dark points and some brindling. Another lovely head & expression. Full of life, steady mover when settled, well balanced, good coat, nice straight front.

2.    Purvis’ Mosspur Licensed To Thrill, Attractive cream, not as mature as one, moved out well, needs a little more body, but plenty of time to improve.
