Thelma Brown’s
Retirement
As you know Thelma Browne retired this year from the C.T.A. Committee
after many years of loyal service, and members were asked if they would like
to give towards a collection for a retirement gift for her. The
collection exceeded all expectations, as a total of £650 was raised and
Thelma had no idea about it. It was
hoped that a presentation would be made to Thelma at the C.T.A. Championship
show in November, but due to ill health she was unable to attend. So on Sunday the 10th December
Mary Middlehurst and myself travelled down to “The Hawthorns” and made a
surprise visit to the lady in question…..and what a surprise, if you could
have seen her face, it was a picture. (Audrey was in on it too, but don’t
tell Thelma she’ll kill her!!). I
presented Thelma with the cheque and the signed card, which was very
poignant, as her friend Wynn Adamson had signed it together with Ruth
Wadman-Taylor and Alma Mowbray, all of whom had passed away earlier in the
year. Thelma
was quite speechless at the size of the cheque, which she thinks she will put
towards getting Sky TV and a much needed stair lift. Thelma
wishes to pass on her sincere thanks to all who contributed to the cheque and
to those who signed the card, she said she couldn’t believe she had so many
kind friends. She also regrets that
she won’t be able to write to everyone in person, but she will put a little
“Thank you” in the Breed columns. I’m
sure you will all join me in wishing Thelma a happy and healthy retirement. Chris Roberts |
