Midland C.T.C. Cairn Day 2003

28th September 2003

Held at Shirland Village Hall, Nr Alfreton, Derbyshire.

There was a good turn out at this years MCTC Cairn Day. A good mixture of Pet and show Cairns were in attendance.

Here is a brief scenario of the days itinerary.

  1. Demonstration Of The Cairn Terrier Breed Standard .

 By Jack Watson.

Jack gave an interesting  and informative talk. He was assisted by Shirley and their young well behaved Cairn Terrier. He went through the finer points of the breed, answering questions as he went along. Finally much to the delight of the audience, Ch. Kinkim Ludvic made a surprise guest appearance.

2.   How To Judge/Handle your Cairn by Linda Firth & Brenda Shannon.

A small sketch on how Not to handle/judge your Cairn was performed by.

Linda Firth  - A drunken rude tart of a judge.

Brenda Shannon – The clumsy ignorant handler.

Pam Bambridge – An irate exhibitor

Lucy – A bombproof cairn terrier

Rupert – Pams long suffering cairn exhibit.

Monica Ball – The poor steward trying to control all of the above.

During the sketch we tried to show,

stacking, Dog trimmed up like a Yorkie, flexi lead, smoking, drinking, mishandling dog, bribing judge, double handling, crowding, inappropriate dress & rudeness  to name but a few.

Afterwards Linda with the help of the audience went through the mistakes and pointed out the correct way to do things.

3. Junior Handling Classes

With Pam Bambridge as Judge, the youngsters where put through their paces. Prizes of Chocolate, Chew sticks and Rosettes for all. With a Silver engraved plate for the two lucky winners. (Pictured below)

4. Trimming Demonstration by Linda and Alan Firth.

When Linda asked did we want “Show” or “Pet” trim it was 50-50 so they tried a compromise!

The Firths brought in Ch. Cairngold Constanze who is now retired and had been left un-trimmed especially for this event. They answered questions and gave tips on Do’s and don’t s as they expertly  trimmed their Cairn

5. Baby Puppy Walk & Match

This was ably judged by young Cara Buttress who most of you will have seen at the shows successfully handling her Bitch Uniquecottage Gold Tilly.
