Midland C.T.C. Cairn Day 2009
27th September 2009
Held at Hasland Village Hall, Hasland , Derbyshire.
Although a change in venue the MCTC Cairn Day was again a resounding success. A good mixture of Pet and show Cairns were in attendance.
|
The
day started as usual with a trimming demonstration, with lots of tips and
advice from full stripping out to a delicate ear trim. Trimmers were – Julie Petts, Maud Hawkes, Alison Wragg & Dawn Innet. |
|
|
Chris Roberts &
helpers had a busy day on the CTRF stall Then aafter a super lunch, Monica held a Junior handling class with youngsters aged 7 to 12. The overall winner was Lauren handling Toto |
|
Then we got
down to the serious part of the day’s activities
Monica
& Brenda’s Fun Classes.
This year Brenda Judged the Handsomest Boy, Prettiest Bitch &
Waggiest Tail.
Monica & Brenda tried to see fair play in the Musical Mats, Sausage
Catcher & Temptation Alley classes, this was at times most difficult with
several warnings given and two sendings off for cheating! (Named & shamed
later on). Then Milly Jennings Judged the fancy Dress competition and decided
who was the Cairn she would most like to take home!
|
Class one
– Musical Mats Maud Hawkes looked after the music but due to the loud din of excited Cairns
she had to resort to a whistle when the music stopped, warnings had to be
given for pushing fellow competitors, & arguing with the referees! The final winner was Morag (But very nearly beaten by a cheeky young pup!) |

Class two
Handsomest Boy After a lot of deliberation Brenda eventually fell for – a
lovely wee red Boy called Monty |

Class
Three Temptation
Alley In this class owners had to guide their Cairn through an alley of
Temptations = Plates of sausage,
cheese, biccies, squeaky rats, singing teddies & fluffy toys. This was the hardest class of the day for Brenda & Monica to control,
lots of cheating a few warnings but lots of fun! The final winner was Morag again! |

Class 4 Prettiest
Bitch Another lovely class for the judge but unfortunately there were two disqualifications. Mary Culliford who tried to favour the judge’s integrity by entering
her Sophie (whom Brenda had bred & handled). Then Mike Warne was so
desperate to win a class he entered his young lad Angus. One hopes this doesn’t
hinder his future career! But Brenda just couldn’t resist awarding Roy’s Cher the title. (As you can see from the photo she just gave that little Xtra Factor!) |
|
|
Class 5 –
Best Sausage Catcher Monica bravely took on the task of throwing sausages in the direction
of the Cairns! Boy were there some keen ones, but the one left standing had the
keenest eye and had obviously been in training. The final winner was Cath’s
? Closely followed by Dexter the Poodle whose owner had misread the
invite! |

Class 6 Waggiest
Tail Hotly contested, but easily one by Roxy as it never stopped wagging |

pink number |

most like to take home” |
This was followed by the Puppy Walk for pups aged less than 6 months.
From a very good entry
our Judge Jean Shearsmith chose
