Our Judge Mrs Helen Bakewell

At present I have many interest over many breeds. I have been the Mercia Toy Poodle Secretary for 20+ years. I serve on the Australian Terrier Club of GB, also a founder member of the Black and Tan Coonhound Committee where the breed has just gained recognition from the Kennel Club.

Over the years I have bred Miniature Poodles with one being made into a Maltese Champion. Toy Poodles, breeding 3 with Reserve CCs and 1 with a CC. I have also owned and bred Australian Terriers having the pleasure of making up 3 Champions. I have also had Soft Coated Wheatens gaining a Reserve CC along the way. We have Norfolk Terriers as well.

I started judging in 1987 because I wanted to put my new found knowledge back into breeds which I love and other which I like and would love to own but you cant have every breed you love. I have judged all 3 sizes of Poodles at championship level in the UK. I also judge SCWT and Australian Terriers at Championship level. I have judged Australian Terriers in Finland. In September this year I have been asked to judge The Poodle Club of Norway. Today Im on many judging lists as an all-round Judge of Utilities and Terriers. I also judged the Japenese Shiba Inu of The Year in 2017.

I have judged Cairn Terriers many times and love their character and alertness. I got to know this breed through my husband who used to show them years ago. The more I saw the more I fell in love with the breed. They are a breed I also think have kept the same overall breed type over the years which is not so in some breeds. I look forward to meeting you all and your dogs on the day.
