CAIRN TERRIERS

What a lovely entry.  Thanks to everyone for making this such an enjoyable day.  Such a pity that the heat became so intolerable that it became necessary to use the wet weather ring when it was time for the bitch classes to be judged.  It goes without saying that movement is still a problem, and I was very surprised to see so many suspect and unacceptable mouths especially in some exhibits who have won well.  Some of the bitch classes were fiercely contested, so much so that anyone placed should not feel disappointed as decisions were often close and hair-splitting.

Minor puppy dog - 5 (2)

1.  Shopland's Cherrycrack Fools Gold.  Red.  Good head and eye.  Excellent mouth, topline and tailset.  Never stopped showing.  Promising.

2.  Weaver's Keybrough Shot In The Dark at Copsleaze. Nice puppy with typical head and expression.  Good coat. Could not quite match outline and showmanship of winner.

3.  Bennett's Maximal Don't Stop The Music.

Puppy dog - 3 (1)

1.  Weedall's Clairvona Acrobat Son.   Red brindle.  Nice pattern.  Good topline.   Full of himself  A little proud of his tail at times and his front could be better, but a nice pup.

2.  Laker's Wizoz Rory.  Nice wheaten brindle but carrying far too much weight which spoilt his outline.  If the owner could get him more streamline his chances would be greatly improved.

Junior dog - 4 (1)

1.  Thompson's Castleline Prince Harry.  Nicely balanced wheaten brindle.  Good neck, shoulders and topline.  The head is there but just needs more furnishings which hopefully will not be long delayed.  Moved well.  I liked him.

2. Berrecloth's Sybster Sophora.  Dark brindle.  Very typy.  Typical head and eye.  Just felt that his coat was past its best today and he didn't cope with the ground as well as winner.

3.  Smee's Oudenarde I'm Alright Jack.

Graduate dog - 1.

1.  Kippen's Chezaku Ferryman.

1.  Stood alone but well deserved his place.  Dark grey with very good outline who covered the ground really well.  Just felt he was a shade long in foreface.

Post Graduate dog - 8 (1).

1.  Birch's Kinkim Wattluq.   Impressive red brindle who was a strong contender for top honours.  Excellent make and shape.  Well muscled quarters.  Covered the ground well and never stopped showing.  Another top quality exhibit from this kennel.

2.  Roberts' Cannwood Augurey.  I loved this dog on the table and thought he might have been the winner of the class.  Gorgeous cream with the most lovely head and expression.  Immaculately presented, in full bloom.  However, there can only be one winner and Wattluq just had the edge on hind movement.

3.  Templeton's Larchlea If Looks Could Kill.

Limit dog - 7 (2).

1.  Braybrook's Cloverbrook Loaded Dice.  Super dark brindle dog who, on the table, takes ones breath away.      Classic head with the most wonderful expression.  Excellent outline and his showmanship is a joy to see.  Couldn't quite match the movement of the ticket winner for the CC but he well deserved the RCC.

2.  Thompson's Castleline Star Trooper.  Well balanced red brindle putting up a good performance.  More head furnishings and a darker eye would make him more appealing.

3.  Cadogan's Dogan Jamesey Cotter.

Open dog - 5 (1)

1.  Parker-Tucker's Uniquecottage Tidy Shoes.   CC winner.  Red brindle of immense quality.  I have seen this dog at times in the past not looking his best and I did not much care for him on those occasions..  However, today was his day and I thought he looked wonderful.  Clean neck and shoulders, dead level topline with correct tailset. Coat at its best.  I was most impressed with him and although he had a strong challenge from Loaded Dice, I felt he out-moved him on the day.  Hope he gains his crown.

2.  Catto's Ch. Birselaw Billy Fury.  Wheaten brindle with outstanding ring presence. Lovely head  and expression with neat ears, deep stop, black mask, dark eyes,  To be super-critical would like him a shade longer in back, but a worthy champion nonetheless.

3.  Shorter & Nuttalls' Spawyche Elizabethan Jet.

Minor puppy bitch - 12.

What a lovely class of puppies.

1.  Dolan's Glenrood Magic Solitaire.  Dark brindle.  What a charmer!  Loved her.  Gorgeous head with wicked expression.  Movement and showmanship both excellent.  Very well presented and handled.  I shall be very surprised if she does not make it to the top. Shall watch her progress with keen interest.

2.  Shopland's Cherrycrack Chasing Aimee.  Wheaten brindle.  Very pretty puppy.  Beautifully balanced.  Good front and length of leg.  Moved well.  Liked her a lot.

3.  Goud's Beanoak Drunken Lady.

Three very promising puppies.

Puppy bitch - 10 (3)

1.  Shaw's Honeyhall Hijink.  I really fell for this wheaten brindle. Oozing femininity.  Most gorgeous mouth watering head.  Beautifully balanced.  Presentation, handling, movement and showmanship all first class.  Best Puppy and all I can say is that she must have been good to have beaten  Magic Solitaire for this award.

2.  Pollock's Stanedykes Diva.  Dark brindle well up to size.  Very nice type who, sadly, did not wish to co-operate fully with her handler today.

3.  Harrison & Formosa's Carradine Echo.

Junior Bitch - 7 (2)

1.  Smee's Oudenarde Belle Amour.  Silver brindle in full bloom.  Loved her head and overall balance. Neck, shoulders, topline and tailset all first class.

2.  Grainger's Oudenarde's Buffy's Angel.  Silver brindle very similar pattern to winner but needing a shade more coat today.

3.  Weedall's Clairvona Victorian Ice.

Novice bitch - 4 (2)

1.  Middlehurst's Starveren Chance To Dream.  Pretty wheaten brindle, nicely balanced, in very good coat.

2.  Jones' Cannwood Special Edition of Charpol.  Dark brindle.  Very nice type but short of coat today and was unco-operative with her handler.

Graduate bitch - 3 (1)

1.  Harrison & Formosa's Spawyche Forever Amber at Carradine.  Red with good head.  Moved and showed well.

2.  Braybrook's Cloverbrook Cute & Clever.   Not quite sure how to describe the colour of this one.  Nicely balanced with good neck & shoulders but her coat was going rapidly and she was reluctant to move for her handler.

Post Graduate bitch - 13 (2)

1.  Ward's Vanajam Trick A Treat.  Stylish wheaten brindle.  Appealing head and expression.  Lovely profile, immaculate front.  Was very taken with her.

2.  Hughes'  Spawyche Dawn Chorus at Gyncairn.  Wheaten brindle of similar pattern to winner so the same remarks apply.  Was splitting hairs between 1st and 2nd.  Two lovely bitches.

3.  Moseley's Spawyche Elizabetha Pearl.

Limit Bitch - 11 (3)

1.  Templeton's Larchlea Looks Like Heaven.  Dark brindle who excells in cairn type.  She is really stunning and I thought when I was examining her on the table that she was going to be my ticket winner but, instead, she was awarded the RCC in a tightly fought match.  Head, expression, topline, tailset, movement all first class but on the day I felt she was carrying just a shade too much weight which was the deciding factor in the challenge.  I wish her well in the future.

2.  Firth & Jones' Cairngold Charcoal.  Top quality dark brindle of great charm. Her typeiness appealed to me greatly.  So unlucky to meet the winner in such great form.  Her time will surely come soon.

3.  Shannon & Storr's Brendarcy Solar Corona.

Open bitch - 7 (1).

1.  Shaw's Honeyhall Headway.  Classy & gassy is how I can describe this lovely bitch.   Femininity personified. The most beautiful head  and expression that tugs at ones heartstrings.  Neck, shoulders, topline and tailset all excellent which produced an elegant outline. Presented and handled to perfection.  I just loved her.  I was delighted to award her the CC which I learnt afterwards was the qualifying one, and her steady showmanship gained her BOB over the dog.

2.  Catto's Birselaw Love Me Do.  Another lovely specimen from this kennel.  Beautifully headed wheaten brindle.  This affix consistently produces the "cat faced" heads which, sadly, are on the decline nowadays.  If anyone has any doubt as to what a correct cairn head is then they should look no further than the Birselaws.  This bitch, as would be expected from this kennel., was immaculately presented and handled.  However, for me, she is just a little too low to ground.

3.  Dolan's Ch. Rossarden Glenmoira.
