City of Birmingham Ch Show 30th August 2003

Cairn Terriers

I thank the exhibitors for this good entry, both in numbers and in quality, quite exceptional in some classes. I found two breed points that need watching. First, there were one or two exhibits with lack of stop and indentation between the eyes. Secondly, a similar number had over-prominent eyes. Nevertheless, the general standard was very good and most pleasing.

VD (1,0 )
1st: Mrs S F WHITE Kervaig Picador. 81/2 years with good head and full red coat. I remember him competing with my dog against him in his prime. He looked good then, and still does.

MPD (7,2)
1st: Mrs M SHOPLAND Cherrycrack Fools Gold. 8 months old with good outline and balance. A steady and confident showman. Good reach of neck, coat and tail carriage. Moved adequately. BPD
2nd: Mrs S KINTON Woodthorpe The Gambling Man NAF. Another red boy two month younger. Higher on the leg than No1. Good proportions and moved soundly. Closely followed by..
3rd:  Mrs M BENNETT Maximal Don't Stop The Music

PD (2,0)
1st:; Mrs P BAMBRIDGE Carradine Master Guy for Luvemal NAF.10 months grey/wheaten brindle. Good head, eyes and ears. He seemed to find the floor slippery which inevitably affected his movement.
2nd: Mrs K EVANS Birselaw Billy The Kid of Kapplegill NAF TAF. 11 months light red. Soundly made and typical but lacking confidence today.

JD (6,2)
1st: Mrs J G PARKER-TUCKER Uniquecottage Rusty Leaf. A cream wheaten in particularly good hard coat. Good neck, shoulders and well-ribbed body. Good head and moved well.
2nd: Mr & Mrs G S PEERS Tweedisle Chasing Vikings. Light red with very good outline and proportions. Head satifactory, good body and coat. Could have been higher but moved a bit close in front on this floor.
3rd: Mrs M CROSBY Tolimaura Chace

PGD (8,1)
1st: Mr F J & Mrs C A CONFUE Anjofra Bang on the Door. Pleasing bright red with good head, eyes, ears, neck and coat. Pleasing body length, proportions, tail placement and carriage. A little extra maturity and he could be pressing for top honours.
2nd: Mr R H & Mrs B D BIRCH Kinkim Wattluq. Very attractive wheaten brindle with particularly good head, eyes and ear placement. In good hard coat and with god outline. No1 shaded placings with very good movent
3rd:  Mr & Mrs J T P ROBERTS Cannwood Augurey. Good one with good cream wheaten coat who can easily win on other occasions.

LD (6,0)

Not a big class but I cannot recall a better Limit dog class with quality throughout from first to last.
1st: Mrs S BRAYBROOK Cloverbrook Loaded Dice. Dark grey brindle of the kind that appeals to me, has a good head, eyes, ears, profile and size. With great balance, he shows confidently and moves well. RDCC
2nd: Mrs G A WARD Vanajam Halloween. Light red with very little separating him from No1. Good head, eyes, reach of neck, body, coat and proportions.
3rd:  Mrs S J WEINBERGER Correnie Altissimo. Close-up as were Nos 4, 5 & 6. The finest distinctions had to be made in order to determine placings.
Res:  Mrs A CADOGAN Dogan Jamesy Cotter
VHC: Mrs S KINTON Woodthorpe Just Bedazzled

OD (5,1)

Another quality class.
1st: Miss Y CATTO Ch Birselaw Billy Fury. After judging Limit, I did not expect to find one to beat its winner- But I did in this class. DCC & BOB. A Wheaten brindle with good head, dark mask and points. Good body, coat and proportions. Showed steadily without faltering. I thought his movement outstanding.
2nd: Mrs J G PARKER-TUCKER Uniquecottage Tidy Shoes Dark grey brindle with good head and ears, coat proportions. Produced and handled as one expects from this owner. I thought No1’s movement slightly superior.
3rd:  Mr R H & Mrs B D BIRCH Kinkim Kenza Ruffn Too

2nd: Mrs S KINTON Woodthorpe Luck Be a Lady NAF. 6 months copper brindle. Remarks for No1 applicable to this one also, but not so mature.
3rd: Mrs M SHOPLAND Cherrycrack Chasing Aimee. Litter sister to BPD and very like him except in colour.

PB (5,3)
1st:  Mrs E B & Mr I L B SHAW Honeyhall Hijinx. 10 months strikingly similar to BOB winner who is her sire. Most remarks about him are applicable to her. BP
2nd: Mrs V CARTER Tarcret Silver Star. 11 months wheaten brindle. Good head, nice size and typical. It took BP to beat her

JB (15,3)

A strong class with a number of future winners amongst the unplaced.
1st: Miss M ROBINSON, Mrs G & MORTIMER Cruzo Carolyn. Red brindle free of any exaggeration. Good head, ears, reach of neck and movement. Good size for age.

2nd: Mrs S J WEINBERGER Correnie Keep Shining. A grey with good outline, reach of neck, tail carriage and movement. Shows with confidence.
3rd:  Mr J POLLOCK Stanedykes Diva

2nd: Mrs S E DOLAN Glenrood Forever Beauty. Wheaten with good head, neck, body, coat and movement.
3rd:Mr &  Mrs A FIRTH  & Mrs G JONES Cairngold Charcoal. Dark grey that I thought at one time would be the winner but I found the movement of those above her was slightly better today.

OB (9,0)
1st:  Mrs A WAUGH Ch Andrum Carlotta. Grey brindle with good front, coat and movement. If you want to see a good typical female head, have a look at this one- But her virtues do not end there. BCC
