CRUFTS CAIRN
TERRIERS.
8. 3. 03
My thanks
to the Cruft’s Committee for
the invitation to judge
the breed, and
to my hard working Stewards
who made the
day easier and
pleasurable. Cruft’s has
always been my
favourite show, some
I made up my first
Champion at this
show with BOB, then Alick Hogg
did the breed and
Walter Bradshaw the
group. Since then
the breed has
certainly got a
size bigger and
it’s not an
easy task to find
one that meets
the size that
the Standard calls
for.
Presentation is
my major concern,
coats are now
far shorter and
in some cases
the breed is
presented more as
a stylised, trimmed
terrier. The standard calls
for natural workmanlike
appearance with a Profuse
Coat and stresses
this as being
Very Important. Do
remember the breed’s
origins as a
highland working terrier.
It’s far from
all doom and
gloom though, the
breed has so
many lovely quality
bitches, the classes
were a joy to judge,
decisions were very
close indeed. The
males do not have depth of quality, but,
there is no
denying that there
are a few good ones
around.
PUPPY DOG
(7. 0)
1.
CROSBY’S TOLIMAURA CHANCE, nine
month old cream in good coat, lovely head and expression
which gave him
the edge over
2, dark eye,
good balance,
topline and tailset,
a sound mover, good
showman and well
presented.
2. BERRECLOTH’S SYBSTER SOPHORA, thirteen month red brindle,
of good type,
good neck, tailset
and topline, nice
moving dog who showed
well, not in
the best of
coats, and lighter
boned.
3. WEEDALL’S
CLAIRVONA VENETIAN MASK, ten-month-old red brindle, liked
his size, steady
and sound mover,
well-presented in good
coat.
JUNIOR DOG
(7.2abs)
1.
BRAYBROOK’S CLOVERBROOK LOADED
DICE, fifteen month old silver, nice size and mature
for age, really
striking head and expression,
well balanced, good neck and shoulders, real showman who never
gave up, needs
to settle on
the move.
2.
CARRINGTON’S REGENCY CARADON CALL TIME, fifteen month
old red, of
good type, sound,
nice size, very
well presented, lovely
head, short tail, straight front,
but rear movement could have
been better.
3. CHEZAKU
FERRYMAN
, sixteen-month-old grey,
nice type, good
balance, moved OK in both
directions, and showed
well, lost out
on head.
SP
YEARLING (6.0)
1.
CH BIRSELAW BILLY FURY,
Res CC, striking w/brindle with a
beautiful expressive head, dark eye,
good stop, liked
him for size,
excellent showman, good
balance, topline, neck and
shoulder, and tailset.
In very good
coat and well presented,
hard condition. Sound rear
driving movement, but lost out in
front movement.
2.
WEINBERGER’S CORRENIE ALTISSIMO,
another dog
of excellent type,
good balance, in
good coat and
well presented, sound
mover, close up
to 1 but seemed rather
lethargic and disinterested.
3. WARD’S
VANAJAM HALLOWEN, liked
him very much
for type, nice showman,
and a good mover, with
a good head, lacking the maturity,
coat and finish
of 1 and 2.
POST GRAD
(18. 1abs) Overall a
disappointing class.
1.
WEST’S KINKIM DEVONSLUDY THREE WITH
JUNETTA, 3
year old dark
grey, appealed to
me on size and
his lovely head,
nice showman, in good
body, good front and
turn of stifle.
Coat getting past
it’s best which rather
spoilt his outline
and topline, sound
mover.
2.
ROBERT’S CANNWOOD AUGUREY,
cream of good
type and quality,
expressive head, sound
mover and good
showman in good
coat but rather
short, loved his temperament, well balanced, a
close and difficult
decision, just preferred
1 on size.
3.
FELTERS AND RUMEN’S, LANDBUCK BRIGHT
COLOURS, liked
him for size
and type, in good
coat nice showman
and sound mover,
lost out on head,
and not the composure of
1 & 2 on
the move.
LIMIT DOG (14.1abs) A good class.
1.
BIRCH’S KINKIM KENZA RUFFN TOO, lovely headed
dog, in beautiful
coat and condition,
well presented, liked his
size and balance,
sound mover and real
showman, good topline, tailset
and outline.
2.
PARKER-TUCKERS UNIQUECOTTAGE TIDY
SHOES, red brindle, nice size, mature
and finished, good
topline and balance, all male, in good
coat and a sound
mover both ways,
real showman, good
neck and shoulders
3. SMOOK’S,
LUX. JUN C ALPHA ROMEO, nice red, and
a very sound free mover, good
head and expression,
in excellent coat,
rather short of
coat on back legs,
which spoilt his
chances.
OPEN DOG
(7.0) A quality
class,
1.
HARRISON & FORMOSA’S CH
CARRADINE TOBLERONE, CC, certainly had his fan
club here today
and deservedly so,
quality male on top form,
one that has
not always impressed
me, but on
the day just
I could not deny
him the CC.
Tail bang on
top, gay and
fearless to a
tee, liked his
size, lovely head and
expression, well presented,
good topline and
tailset, free powerful and straight
mover in both
directions, just powered himself
round the ring,
a joy to watch.
2. LINDROTH’S
RASKENS RED RUBY, another quality
male, so sound and
an excellent mover,
in good coat,
clean outline, lovely head,
balanced throughout, real
showman, splitting hairs but preferred the
more natural presentation and size of
1.
3. CAMERON’S
CH STRYVELING IVANHOE, lovely
type, full of
quality and sound, in
good condition, excellent
coat and well
presented.
SP VET
DOG (6.2abs)
1. PARKER-TUCKERS CH & AM CH
UNIQUECOTTAGE BRIGHT GOLD, 8 year old red,
who fails to
look his age,
in lovely coat,
body and condition,
sound mover and
real shower, good
topline, head and expression,
a credit to
his owner.
2. OWEN’S
CH CALDWALL CONNOR,
9 year old
in lovely coat,
maintains his excellent type, classic head, good showman
not as positive as 1
on the move
3. WHITE’S
KERVAIG PICADOR, 8,
another still looking
good, quality male,
so sound, enjoying
himself, showing well.
SP PUPPY
BITCH (16. 2abs),
1. GRAINGER’S
OUDENARDE BUFFY’S ANGEL,
Best Puppy,10 month old
dark brindle, loved
her clean outline
and balance, straight
topline, good neck, clean shoulders and straight front,
moving away soundly
with drive, lovely
head and expression,
very composed for
a youngster and
showed well. Short of
coat but of
correct harsh texture.
2. WEEDALL’S
CLAIRVONA VICTORIAN ICE, 10 months old
grey, sound a
shows well, in
good coat, nice
type, balanced good
topline and sound
on the move.
3. DOLAN’S
GLENROOD DREAM PIPIT, 10-month-old cream with
a lovely head,
sound balanced and
showed well.
SP
JUN
BITCH (10.1abs)
1. TEMPLETON’S LARCHLEA LOOKS LIKE HEAVEN, very aptly
named dark grey,
in a full quality coat

plus, never gave
up showing, nice feminine size, balanced outline moved
well in both
directions, should have
a promising future.

well.

bitches.
1.
JONES CH PENTICHARM CELTIC PRINCESS, CC & BOB, this
bitch has it all
for me, just
oozes breed type
that is unmistakably Penticharm. Wheaten
brindle in lovely
coat and put
down to perfection. Beautiful head,
dark eye, good
bite. Balanced clean outline,
good topline, neck, shoulders
& bend of
stifle. Moved true and
freely in both
directions, showed all
out.
2. FIRTH
& JONES, CAIRNGOLD
CHARCOAL, Res CC, lovely honest bitch with
clean flowing natural
outline, meets the

and
I did, real quality, mature

Grey, in lovely

presented, can never
be overlooked and
must have a
bright future.

a close
decision, just preferred

SPAWYCHE ELIZABETHAN JADE,
feminine grey
3 year old, clean outline
