The Cairn Terrier Club Championship Show

Saturday 4th October 2003

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge this prestigious show and also thank them and the exhibitors for their patience in what became, for me, a very difficult day (due to a tummy upset).

I feel the depth of quality in bitches is still a lot stronger than dogs and that movement is still a big problem, especially front.  More and more upright shoulders and steep upper arms are creeping in, which doesn’t help with movement.  On a good note toplines on the whole were good as were ribs and rear angulation; lets keep it this way and not join the current fashion sweeping across Europe for breeding Cairns with over angulated hind quarters.

Veteran Dog 2 (1)

1St – Walker’s, Bengahill Simply Magic, 7 years old, dark brindle in very good condition, good head, well balanced, good topline, moved well in front.

Veteran Bitch 3 (1)

1st – Cameron’s, Kinkim Liza Lumm of Stryueling.  7 1/2 old, red with lovely head and expression, very good teeth, straight front, good neck and shoulders moved well in front, in excellent condition.

Vintage Dog or Bitch 1 (1)

1St – Latto’s CH.  Pinetop Hot Spot, an old favourite of mine and at  11 3/4 years young, he hasn’t lost his excellent outline.  Lovely head and expression, good teeth, he moved with drive, showed all out, in super condition, Best Veteran.

Minor Puppy Dog 4 (3)

1st – Wilson’s, Sionnach Ceo Na Coille.  Ultra smart red brindle with lovely head and expression, straight front, excellent outline, correct rear angulation which enabled him to move with drive, needs to tighten in front movement.  Very promising.

2nd – Parker-Tucker’s, Uniquecottage Earl Grey.  Well balanced cream with lovely head, good neck and shoulders, moved well behind, need to settle in front.

3rd – Laidlaw’s, Sarachelle Sunshine Boy.

Puppy Dog 3 (2)

1st – Sionnach Ceo Na Coille.

2nd – Bambridge’s, Caradine Master Guy For Luvemal.  Lovely head and expression. Very good neck and shoulders, good rear angulation, moved with drive behind, not moving well in front today, showed well with presence.

Junior Dog 2 (1)

1st- Evans’, Birselaw Billy the Kid of Kappelgill.  Eye-catching wheaten brindle of correct size, with lovely head, good front, excellent outline, moved well both ways, very showy, one to watch.

Maiden Dog 1 (1)

1st – Uniquecottage Earl Grey.

Novice Dog 1 (1)

1st - Uniquecottage Earl Grey.

Graduate Dog 5 (2)

1st – Sharp’s, Doonrae Dragoon.  Dark brindle with lovely head, good front, very good neck and shoulders, good topline, moved well with plenty of width behind, showed well.

2nd – Hodgkins’, Larclea Wish Me Luck at Russcot.  Dark brindle, longer in muzzle than 1 and short in rib.  Well balanced with good topline, moved well behind, but toed in, in front.

Post Graduate Dog 4 (3)

1st – Birch’s Kinkim Wattluq.  Nice head and expression, very good neck and shoulders and front tailset a little low and a bit straight in stifle.  Moved soundly, though lacked drive.

2nd – Dena’s Orior Winter Solstice.  A little on the small side, but in proportion, good head, a little out at the elbow, very good outline movement.  Needs to settle.

3rd – Treglown’s, Brendarcy Danger Mouse.

Limit Dog 7

1st – Weinberger’s, Correnie Altissimo.  Wheaten brindle with lovely head and expression very good front and hindquarters.  Very pleasing outline with nothing exaggerated, moved and showed well shown in very good coat and condition, pleased to award him his 1st CC and BOB.

2nd – Latto’s, Pinetop Forest Fir.  Wheaten with gorgeous head, straight front, very good neck, shoulders and topline, strong hindquarters, moved soundly with plenty of drive.

3rd – Watts, Sarachelle the Helmsman.

Open Dog 5

1st – Catto’s CH.  Birselaw Billy Fury.  Upstanding wheaten brindle with lovely head and expression very good outline, although for me a little upright, straight front, strong hindquarters, moved soundly with drive, excellent showman RCC.

2nd – Birch’s, Kinkim Kenza Ruffin Too.  A young favourite of mine, nice size, good head, excellent outline, straight front, good hindquarters, sound in movement, lacked body on the day.

3rd – Smith’s, Racasovale Rising Sun.

Special Beginners Dog 4 (2)

1st – Parker-Tucker’s, Uniquecottage Glengettie.  Enthusiastic 6 1/2 month red brindle with lovely head, very good outline front and hindquarters, moved very soundly for one so young, very promising.

2nd – Cato’s, Birselaw Special Moment.  8 month cream with very nice head, very good front, not as good in shoulders as 1.  Good topline, a little straight in stifle, moved soundly.

3rd – Gowan’s, Bengahill What a Star.

Puppy Bitch 9 (7)

1st – Shaw’s, Hineyhall Hijinx.  Eye-catching 11 month wheaten that oozed quality, lovely head, excellent outline, straight front, correct rear angulation, very sound mover with drive.  Well presented, seriously considered her in the challenge, but lost out on body condition.  Best Puppy.

2nd – Poiles, Kedvaiy Pascali.  9 1/2 month red with pretty head, very good front, neck and shoulders, good topline and hindquarters, moved soundly with drive.  Showed well, unlucky to meet 1.  Promising puppy.

3rd – Buttress’, Caradine Miss Embers.

Junior Bitch 4 (2)

1st – Pollock’s, Stanedykes Diva.  Very showy dark brindle with lovely head and expression, good front, excellent outline, well angulated hindquarters, moved with drive behind, but moving a little close in front.

2nd – Cameron’s, Stryveling Amadine.  Well balanced wheaten brindle, pretty head, very good front, good neck and shoulders, movement a little stilted.

Maiden Bitch 6 (5)

1st – Evan’s, Bireslaw Special Model At Kapplegill.  Quality wheaten brindle, little sister to Billy the Kid and very alike, same remarks apply, another one to watch.

1st – Latto’s Pinetop Gabrielle.  Very feminine wheaten with lovely head, excellent front neck and shoulders, good hindquarters, moved well with drive behind.

2nd – Miller’s Cornton Ruadh.  Feminine red with very good head, very good neck and shoulders, good topline and hindquarters, moved soundly and showed well.

Undergraduate Bitch 9 (8)

1st – Weinberger’s, Correnie Keep Shining.  Very smart grey brindle, nice head, good front, OK in neck and shoulders, good topline and hindquarters, moved well behind, but a little close in front.

2nd – Skelton’s, Craivin Dawn Diva.  Feminine wheaten brindle of good size, lovely head front and outline showed well, lost out to 1 on hind movement.

3rd – Mears’, Stanedykes Tosca.

3rd – Evans’, Stradivarius Scotts Suite at Kapplegill.

Limit Bitch 6 (3)

1st – Munday’s, Stradivarius Sonata.  Another bitch of quality with  lovely head and expression, very good in outline, good front, correct rear angulation, a little heavy on the day, won the class on her excellent movement, very showy.

2nd – Cameron’s, Stryveling The Lady Rowena.  Dark brindle with very good head, front and hindquarters, pleasing outline, sound mover , showed well.

3rd – Weinberger’s, Correnie Keep My Secret.

Open Bitch 8 (7)

Excellent class (Spoilt for choice or what!)

1st – Philips’, Sarachelle Just Daisy at Jarva.  The star of the show!  What can I say, perfect for size and balance, everything in the right place and nothing exaggerated.  A true Cairn head with wicked expression, ultra sound mover together with a coat I could see my face in, she showed all out and never put a foot wrong.  I was very pleased to award her, her 3rd CC and BIS.  Congratulations.
