Cairn Terriers, Darlington

12th September 2003.

I would like to thank everyone who was sporting enough to enter under me. The weather was gloriously sunny; the only thing to mar the day was the huge quantity of wasps that were everywhere. One nearly spoilt the day for the Best of Breed, whilst waiting to have her photo taken she was stung by one of these blighters and but for her owner realising what had happened and getting her to the vet quickly she might not have been able to compete in the group. She did make the group though and did not let us down, showing to perfection throughout. Unfortunately she was not placed in the group.

Although the entry was not large in numbers, the quality was very good, one or two of the classes would have had joint 1st’s if this was allowed by the KC. The wording on those big green cards of which there are only two to give out is:- I am clearly of the opinion that (name of dog) Owned by(……….)  is of such outstanding merit as to be worthy of the Title of Champion, this being the criteria then they ought to have let me have at least 12 of them as I certainly could have made use of more than two.  Some very nice exhibits were down the line or not placed at all because of coat condition, even the best coats go “on the blow” from time to time.

MPD (3,0)
1ST  Mr F J & Mrs C A CONFUE Anjofra Golf Bravo

Clear red, very good coat texture, moved with drive when he had settled, correct eye giving pleasing expression, very smart young dog.
2nd Mrs S BRAYBROOK Cloverbrook Ultimate Force

Dark brindle of good proportions, very attractive head, moved steadily & showed himself well, this was the first class where I could have awarded joint 1st s if it was allowed.
3rd SHANNON, B M, STORR, D & GRANT Brenndarcy Red Badger TAF

PD (3,1)
1ST Mrs K EVANS Birselaw Billy The Kid of Kapplegill

Clear red with dark points, very mature for his age, good upstanding posture, showed himself very well throughout, was a little short on coat but moved with drive and confidence. Definitely one to watch out for in the future.  Best puppy dog
2nd Mr R H & Mrs B D BIRCH Kinkim Banuk

Dark brindle with good length of back, good rear angulation and correct tail set, not quite as steady on the move as winner and not quite as mature in body.

JD (3,2)
1st: Mrs M CROSBY Tolimaura Chace

Light red with attractive dark points, lovely eye and expression, good reach of neck, in good coat and presented well, good straight front, moved four square both front and rear.

PGD (7,3) . This was a very strong class with some excellent dogs in it.
1st Mr & Mrs S W G SHORT Glenchess Black Tie

Wheaten, well up to size, strong masculine head, good length of back, really moved out with drive, one of the best movers of the day, however his showmanship seems to be rather intermittent which nearly lost him his first place.
2nd Mrs C TEMPLETON Larchlea If Looks Could Kill

Very showy dark brindle, well up to size, very masculine head and expression, excellent mouth with large powerful teeth, coat of correct texture, good tail set, moved O K , was very narrowly beaten and could change places on another day
3rd Mr & Mrs J T P ROBERTS Cannwood Augurey
Res Mr M & Mrs C M BROWN Cloverbrook Talk of The Town

LD (6,0)
1st Mr A J & Mrs C STEPHINSON Twohoots Advent Oberon

Attractive wheaten with dark points, excellent coat texture, good length of back, correct set on tail, moved four square both front and rear, a dog that I first noticed when he won his class at Crufts under  Mr Ron Birch. He has matured into a sound honest Cairn and was a worthy winner. RDCC
2nd Mr M & Mrs E WATTS Sarachelle the Helmsman

Dark brindle with a super head and expression, good reach of neck flowing into back of correct length, nicely set on tail, moved well and was unlucky to meet 1 on the day.
3rd Mr F J & Mrs C A CONFUE Anjofra Golf Papa Lima
Res Mrs A CADOGAN Dogan Jamesy Cotter
VHC Mr C & Mrs J PRATT Cadagio Looks Like Trouble at Terrijay

OD (4,0) This is one of those classes that I would have quite happily handed out four of those big green cards.
1st  Mrs S BRAYBROOK Ch Cloverbrook Loaded Dice

Dark brindle with a head to die for, lovely length of neck flowing into the correct length of back, finished off by well set on tail. Moved steadily and showed to perfection. DCC
2nd Mrs F S CAMERON Ch Stryveling Ivanhoe

Dark red brindle, excellent mouth with large powerful teeth, coat of good texture, good length of back and well set on tail, very sound on the move, did not show as well as winner.
3rd Mr R SHORTER, Mrs D A & NUTTALL Spawyche Elizabethian Jet
Res Mr R H & Mrs B D BIRCH Kinkim Kenza Ruffn Too

VB (2,0)
1st Miss B SHANNON& Mr D STORR Fryuplain Velour of Brenndarcy

Clear red with a proper Cairny head, so attractive, just my type of Cairn, moved really well, you would not think that she was seven years old, showed really well as the day must have been hot for her as her coat was quite profuse. Best Veteran.

2nd Mrs C BUTTERY Cloverbrook Cleopatra

Dark brindle, another in such good condition for a seven year old, coat condition was excellent, she was  so showy, obviously enjoying her day out, it was a shame that I could not give them both a first.

MPB (6,2)
1st Mr J POLLOCK Stanedykes Birky

Upstanding dark brindle, nicely proportioned in all departments, good mouth, pleasing head, nicely positioned ears, good length of neck flowing into nice shoulders, good coat texture nicely set on tail, moved steadily. Best puppy
2nd Mr F J & Mrs C A CONFUE Anjofra Golf Sierra Quebec

Light clear red, pleasing head and expression, correct eye, good mouth, excellent length of neck and  back, did not behave herself as well as winner, but even so a good prospect for the future.
3rd Miss B SHANNON & Mr D STORR Brenndarcy Tigerlily
Res  Mrs C M CLARKE Carocairn Glamour Girl

PB (4,0)
1st Mr A J & Mrs C STEPHINSON Twohoots Cecilia

Light red, very mature, attractive head and expression, correct mouth, eye and ear set, good length of neck and back flowing into a correct set on tail but coat slightly on the ‘blow’. Moved with drive
2nd Mrs L HUGHES Gyncairn Dancing Queen

What a lovely wheaten baby, such animation, she really is a good prospect. She is not a big girl but everything is in proportion. Good mouth, eye and expression, nice length of neck, good shoulders nice length of back, correct tail set, lost out to winner on maturity.
3rd Mrs J SMITH Rocasovale Sparkler
Res Mrs E J LONGDIN Wellingley Who's That Girl

JB (7,0)   I could have easily given out some of those big green cards in this class, a very strong class.
1st Mr J POLLOCK Stanedykes Diva

Dark brindle, nicely proportioned, correct textured coat with unusual colouring  on her front, one dark leg and one light leg, which gives an interesting effect when she moves towards you, however her movement was sound both front and rear, a really good showgirl, sound in all departments. Definitely CC material
2nd Mrs M MIDDLEHURST Starveren Chance To Dream

Wheaten with dark points, good mouth, correct eye, ears and expression, good length of neck and back, a topline that you could run a spirit level over, correct tail set and coat texture, moved really well. This is another class that if it were allowed I would have made 1 and 2 joint 1st , definitely CC material

3rd Mrs A SMEE            Oudenarde  Belle Amour
Res  Mrs V & Miss C L WEEDALL Clairevona Victorian Ice
VHC Messrs FELTERS, A & RUMENS, R A Andrum Lemon Meringue

PGB (10,2)
1st Mrs P JEFFREY Sandaig Suilean Dubh

Pleasing outline to this light grey brindle bitch.  Typical head and expression, nice reach of neck and clean shoulders.  Balanced throughout.  Full of life, very animated, moved true.  I liked her a lot, another one to watch out for in the future.

2nd Mrs L HUGHES Spawyche Dawn Chorus at Gyncairn

Wheaten brindle, nicely proportioned, nothing overdone.  Cute head, level topline, good rear action, showed very well indeed.
3rd Mr F J & Mrs C A CONFUE Anjofra Nutty Tart
Res Miss Y CATTO Birselaw Perfect Moment
VHC Mr R & Mrs C J BUTTERFIELD Camasmor Coquette

LB (4,1)
1st Mrs C TEMPLETON Larchlea Looks Like Heaven

Dark brindle with a wonderful head & expression.  Well balanced throughout, adequate reach of neck, good layback of shoulder and a level topline.  Well muscled and fit, very animated, moved soundly front and back.  Lovely Cairn temperament  which showed through in her showmanship.  In good coat and condition, presented well.  Coat condition tipped the balance for BOB.  BCC & BOB
2nd Mr R MUNDAY Stradivarius Sonata

Light grey brindle, tight coat of correct texture.  Shade bigger than winner but sound and well balanced.  Lovely head and expression, showed steadily.  A quality exhibit.
3rd Mrs P JEFFREY Sandaig Skye Song

OB (3,0)
1st Miss B SHANNON & Mr D STORR Brenndarcy Solar Corona

Light red with the desired dark points.  She has the type of head I like, strong but feminine.  A sound bitch with a really good coat of correct texture.  Straight front, level topline, correct tail set.  She moved true front and rear.  RBCC
2nd Mrs B PHILLIPS Sarachelle Just Daisy at Jaeva

Dark brindle with a lovely coat and the most attractive head.  Lovely flow of neck into clean shoulders,  moved and showed steadily.

3rd Miss Y CATTO Birselaw Love Me Do
