Cairn Terriers, Darlington
12th September 2003.
I would like to thank everyone who was
sporting enough to enter under me. The weather was gloriously sunny; the only
thing to mar the day was the huge quantity of wasps that were everywhere. One
nearly spoilt the day for the Best of Breed, whilst waiting to have her photo
taken she was stung by one of these blighters and but for her owner realising
what had happened and getting her to the vet quickly she might not have been
able to compete in the group. She did make the group though and did not let us
down, showing to perfection throughout. Unfortunately she was not placed in the
group.
Although the entry was not large in numbers,
the quality was very good, one or two of the classes would have had joint 1st’s
if this was allowed by the KC. The wording on those big green cards of which
there are only two to give out is:- I am clearly of the opinion that (name of
dog) Owned by(……….) is of such
outstanding merit as to be worthy of the Title of Champion, this being the
criteria then they ought to have let me have at least 12 of them as I certainly
could have made use of more than two.
Some very nice exhibits were down the line or not placed at all because
of coat condition, even the best coats go “on the blow” from time to time.

PD (3,1)
1ST Mrs K EVANS Birselaw Billy The Kid of Kapplegill
Clear
red with dark points, very mature for his age, good upstanding posture, showed
himself very well throughout, was a little short on coat but moved with drive
and confidence. Definitely one to watch out for in the future. Best puppy dog
2nd Mr R H & Mrs B D BIRCH Kinkim Banuk
Dark
brindle with good length of back, good rear angulation and correct tail set,
not quite as steady on the move as winner and not quite as mature in body.

1st Mr & Mrs S W G SHORT Glenchess Black Tie
Wheaten,
well up to size, strong masculine head, good length of back, really moved out
with drive, one of the best movers of the day, however his showmanship seems to
be rather intermittent which nearly lost him his first place.
2nd Mrs C TEMPLETON Larchlea If Looks Could Kill
Very
showy dark brindle, well up to size, very masculine head and expression,
excellent mouth with large powerful teeth, coat of correct texture, good tail

winner. RDCC

Clear
red with a proper Cairny head, so attractive, just my type of Cairn, moved

well as the day must have been hot for her as her coat was quite profuse. Best
Veteran.
2nd
Mrs C BUTTERY Cloverbrook Cleopatra
Dark
brindle, another in such good condition for a seven year old, coat condition
was excellent, she was so showy,
obviously enjoying her day out, it was a shame that I could not give them both
