Pictures By Alan Firth & Adnerb Nonnahs

Leeds Championship show 26 July 2003-08-18

The weather was generally ideal for the occasion, however at times it did turn quite hot and humid for short lived periods, which affected some dogs more than others.  The ringside atmosphere was enterprising – I thank the exhibitors for the sporting way in which they accepted my decisions.

My priorities are for type, balance and quality, most of my winners reflected these virtues in varying degrees.

MPD (5, 1a)

1.                  Firth and Jones’ Cairngold Conman, 8 months wheaten with good overall shape and balance, very much a youngster but coming on well, lovely expressive head with the desired dark eye, good front and shoulder placement, nice quarters, showed well & with confidence.  Coat not at its best, promising pup.

2.                  Bennett’s Maximal Don’t Stop The Music, w/br, still very much a pup, nice expression, pleasing front, angles & coat, sufficient body development for age with nice outline, needs to gain a little more ring presence but I’m sure this will improve with experience.

3.                  Stephinson’s Twohoots Arthur

PD (1,1a)

JD (5, 1a)

  1. Berrecloth’s Sybster Sophora, standard gr/br that balances out well, presenting a nice picture in profile.  Typical masculine head, lovely expression enhanced by neat well set ears & dark eye, good topline & well turned quarters, fluent & sound in movement.
  2. Crosby’s Tolimaura Chace, cream, well proportioned masculine head, defined stop, good mouth, pleasing spring of rib, tailset & rear angulation, moved out quite well.  Requires a little more coat to complete the picture.
  3. Weedall’s Clairevona Venetian Mask

ND (0)

PGD (10)

  1. Brown’s Cloverbrook Talk of The Town, gr/br dog of correct size & type, excellent ring presence & showmanship.  Well furnished masculine head, dark eye & good mouth.  In complete balance, well constructed in body, good spring of rib, level topline, strong supple loin with sound quarters, covered the ground well.  Responds well to his handler, RCC.
  2. Short’s Glenchess Black Tie, up to size cream, good balance & outline of head & body, nicely angulated to the forehand with good legs & feet, well sprung rib, excellent angulation to quarters, moved with purpose & drive.
  3. Gibson’s Glenmear Tempus Fugit

LD (7)

  1. Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Loaded Dice, smart stylish gr/br dog of type, showed with lots of animation.  Lovely masculine head that fits the standard in detail without any exaggerations, eye catching in outline, nicely angulated to the forehand with good conformation & balance, presented in prime condition, sound hindquarters, well let down hocks, free, agile & assertive movement, CC.
  2. Cadogan’s Dogan Jamesy Cotter, wheaten/br, beautiful head & expression, correctly made in body & angulation, presented in a good coat of very good texture & length.  Decided to do his own thing when asked to move & didn’t co-operate with his owner, therefore paid the penalty.
  3. Tracey’s Crowneast Boy Blue Wonder at Retacy

OD (3, 1a)

  1. Cameron’s Ch Stryveling Ivanhoe, smart dark gr/br quality dog exemplifying good type.  Excellent masculine head, super outline & balance of shape.  Excels in neck, shoulder, conformation & well turned quarters, giving free movement with plenty of drive.  In the challenge he seemed to be far less animated, possibly due to the heat but nevertheless a worthy champion.
  2. Birch’s Kinkim Kenza Ruffn Too, gr/br in good coat & condition, totally different type to 1, smaller but very sound, nicely balanced throughout, lovely head, true Cairn expression, good neck & shoulders, excellent front & rear angulation, covered the ground with ease, an accomplished showman.

MPB (7,2a)

  1. Birch’s Kinkim Chuk Chuk, most attractive light red, totally feminine head, neat well set ears, dark eye, straight front, good topline & tailset, very sound to go over.  Just within MP qualification, delightful show personality.
  2. Tracey’s Retacy Amazing Grace, 7 & half months light gr/br, pleasing head, good ear & mouth, little short of head furnishings, sufficient body development with balance, all you would expect at this age, just needs to progress along these lines, liked her movement.
  3. Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Cedar.

PB (6, 1a)

  1. Shaw’s Honeyhall Hijinx, eye catching wheaten, most appealing head & expression, lovely for type & balance, very feminine all through, well put together, good bone, legs & feet, clean shoulders, level topline, good freedom of movement, showed well, very promising BP.
  2. Owen’s Caldwall Cordelia, 9 months wheaten, another eye catching puppy, lovely feminine head, correct mouth & ear placement, liked her length & overall balance, ideal body, ribs & topline for age, on similar lines to 1.  Requires a little more head furnishings to complete the picture, moved well.
  3. Felters & Rumens’ Andrum Lemon Meringue

JB (6, 1a)

  1. Weedall’s Clairevona Victorian Ice, most feminine dark gr/br of considerable merit, exquisite head of correct proportions, defined stop, lovely dark eye & earset contributing to the desired expression.  Well constructed forehand, clean in outline, good rib, topline, tailset & hindquarters.  Lovely showgirl.
  2. Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Coral, light red, another promising youngster that fits the requirements well at this stage.  Not quite as developed as 1 yet but I’m sure this will come with maturity, not long out of puppy.  Liked her shoulder placement, balanced outline, rear angulation & hocks.  Showed well, needs to settle a little on the move.
  3. Watson’s Carocairn Moulin Rouge by Fieldron

NB (3, 1a)

  1. Owen’s Crowneast Spinning Top of Caldwall, showy red in good coat of correct texture, nicely proportioned of medium size, very feminine, scores in neck, shoulders & topline, moved & handled well.
  2. Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Cute & Clever, very assertive w/gr/br, showing well, nice type in head & expression, good neck, body & balance, moving with purpose & drive, coat not at its best which let her down.

PGB (5, 1a)

  1. Jeffrey’s Sandaig Suilean Dubh, quality light gr/br, most attractive feminine head, totally in balance with body, dark eyes & neat well carried ears all adding to a lovely expression, nicely constructed in body, balance with ample rib development, adequate bend of stifle, hocks well let down.  In top form, ring presence superb.
  2. Butterfield’s Camasmor Coquette, gr/br with pleasing head, good neckline & level topline, nicely balanced with good outline.  Just preferred head & extrovert showmanship of 1, moved OK.
  3. Turnbull’s Tribannon Destiny of Bedrule

LB (7)

  1. Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Charcoal, well presented dark gr/br of type in good order, scores in conformation & balance, there is no doubting her femininity, lovely expressive head, nicely set ears with attractive dark shaded mask, good depth & spring of rib, level topline, firmly muscled quarters, moved freely with drive.
  2. Munday’s Stradivarius Sonata, quality light gr/br of nice size, lovely head, neat well set ears, eyes of correct shape & colour, well put together, showed all out for her handler.  Liked her a lot, close decision.
  3. Jeffrey’s Sandaig Skye Song

OB (8, 3a) Two very nice bitches

  1. Phillips’ Sarachelle Just Daisy at Jaeva, loved this dark gr/br bitch for her excellent type, height to length ratio correct, right for size, very good in head & expression, nicely ribbed up, well muscled & supple over the loin, excels in front movement with good extension, hindquarters to match giving fluency & drive.  On this performance she richly deserved the CC & BOB, she is worthy of her crown, hope she doesn’t have to wait too long.
  2. Shaw’s Honeyhall Headway, another lovely example of the breed, with very little separating these two top class bitches, nicely developed light gr/br of similar type, so much animation, super feminine head, good legs, feet & weight of bone, good depth & spring of rib, presenting a well balanced outline, coat of correct length & texture, moves out well, RCC
  3. Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Here To Stay
