SOUTH WALES AND WEST OF ENGLAND CAIRN TERRIER CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

18TH OCTOBER 2003

It was a privilege and a pleasure to judge this prestigious breed club show and I thank the officers and committee for their hospitality on the day. I appreciated the excellent entry and support from the exhibitors

On the day I was surprised to find many overweight cairns with overloaded shoulders, together with poor angulation in some exhibits effected movement. What is happening to our lovely cairn heads?  I found narrow skulls, long muzzles, lack of stop, variable ear placements and small round eyes staring at me giving rise to an alien expression.

I do like a cairn to have good head, breed type and overall balance and soundness.

The bitch classes were far superior with some fine examples of our beloved breed. I was delighted with my quality line ups who more than fulfilled my criteria on the day.

B.I.S. was Oudernarde Buffy`s Angel

R.B.I.S.  Uniquecottage Tidy Shoes

B.P.  Honeyhall Hijinx

M.P.D.  8   A lovely class of puppies.

1)         Thomas and Ward`s Vanajam Three Wishes for Tycadno

W/B at his first show, dark eye, neat well placed ears, nice neck, shoulders and top line. In full puppy coat, gave a good account of himself on the day.

2)            Braybrook`s  Cloverbrook Ultimate Force.

G/B correct cairny head and expression, nicely balanced, moved well

3)            Parker Tucker`s Uniquecottage Earl Grey

1                    Weinberger`s Correnie Altissimo./

Attractive head with desirable dark points, nicely proportioned body, in excellent coat and condition.

2                    Ward`s Vanajam Haloween.

Like two peas in a pod. Similar breeding – same remarks apply, just preferred the balance of one.

3                    Kinton`s Woodthorpe Just Bedazzled

O/D     7   (1 abs)         A difficult class to judge. Three worthy champions dominated

                   the ring.

1                    Parker Tucker`s Uniquecottage Tidy Shoes.

G/B  nor exaggerated in anyway, masculine head, adequate neck flowing into shoulder placement. Firm topline and excellent rear angulation, free positive movement. Fully coated, workmanlike, a true, honest cairn .

C.C., R.B.I.S.

2                    Braybrook`s CH. Cloverbrook Loaded Dice.

Imposing G/B, nicely proportioned head, excels in forehand, shade longer in body than one but still balanced. On the day just preferred the firmer topline on the move of one.

R.C.C.

3                    Harrison and Formosa`s CH. Carradine Toblerone.

Strong masculine dog in excellent coat and condition, sound free mover.

One I have always admired but today unfortunately wasn`t to be his day.

G/B Keen eye set in good head, full coat, on his toes.

2                  Waites Seveek Country Rambler to Svendalens.

6

1                  Moseley`s CH. Spawyche Elizabethan Cameo

G/B 8year old. Stood out in this class, feminine head, dark eye, in prime coat and condition. Alert and showy, moved well. Did not look out of place in the final line up. A worthy champion.

2                  Buttery`s Cloverbrook Cleopatra

7 year old G/B. sweet head and expression, showing non-stop.

         3        Dolan`s Glenrood Snow Pipit

Special Veteran            11years and over

            1          Goud`s Davmar Viking Arrow.

11 year old clear red, dark points, upstanding dog, all male, well animated.

            2          Ough`s Ocedor Sunbeam.

15 year old grey oldie, sweet head, good body, not very happy here  today.

            3          Ough`s Ocedor Sunset

M.P.B.             14 (3 abs)

1                    Radford`s Skimmerton Silver Touch

8 months G/B, desirable head, eye, expression and earset, firm bodied, excels in neck and profile, Moved with purpose. Coat not at its best but forgave that. Happy and alert disposition.

2                    Kinton`s Woodthorpe Luck be a Lady.

Not quite lucky enough to be a winner but close up to one similar in make and shape. Striking red brindle jacket, just preferred head of winner on the day.

3                    Firth and Jones Cairngold Copper

P/B                  15 ( 3 abs)

            1          Shaw`s Honeyhall Hijinx.

What a stunner. W/B beautiful cairn head with the desirable wicked  expression. Everything was just right about her, nicely proportioned, super neckline flowing into shoulders and topline, harsh double coat in tip top condition, presentation spot on. Moved soundly. Exciting future prospect. The only thing wrong with her, she doesn`t belong to me. B.P.I.S.

            2          Poile`s Kedvaiy Pascali.

Clear red, presented similar to one. Attractive head and expression, up on her leg, nice bone and conformation. Good coat and condition.

           3           Dolan`s Glenrood Magic Solitaire.

J/B                   12 ( 6 abs)

1                    Grainger`s Oudernarde Buffy`s Angel

This bitch was my star of the day. Quality G/B. Everything right about her, lovely head, mouth, stop, wicked expression, elegant neckline flowing into correctly angulated shoulders, top line and tail carriage. Balanced throughout. Coat and body in tip top condition. Movement true, showed all out for her owner, demanded attention and could not be denied top honours.  C.C. and B.I.S.

2                    Pollock`s Stanedykes Diva.

G/B up to size, expressive head, nice type in profuse coat.

3                    Weedall`s Clairevona Victorian Ice.

M/B                 8  (2 abs)

1                    Radford1s Skimmerton Silver Swquel.

G/B litter sister to M.P. winner of same type and size. Short on coat

2                    Carter`s Tarcet Siver Star.

G/B nice head and outline, in good coat.

            3          Parker Tucker`s Uniquecottage Glengettie

N/B                  4  (1 abs)

1                    Parker Tucker`s Uniquecottage Glengetie

Attractive R/B puppy, has all the essentials. Full of energy, liked her type, head size and balance, fully coated.

2                    Bennett and Keeves Seveek One Moment in Time with Maxiveek.

Cream, sweet head, neat ears, moved soundly.

3                    Peer`s Tweedisle Chasing Rainbows

U/G/B              11  (1 abs)

            1          Thomas`Tycadno Memphis Belle.

Sound, nicely proportioned body, correct cairn head and expression.

Balanced, presented a good profile. Coat and condition spot on. Movement positive. Nice bitch, faded somewhat in the challenge.

2          Weedall`s ClairevonaVictorian Ice.

Close up to winner, not a big bitch but has all the requirements which make a cairn, head of equilateral proportions, dark well shaped eye, good stop, mischievous expression, balanced outline, showy and sound moving.

3                    Carter`s Tarcet Look at Me Now

P/G/B               10  (3 abs)

1                    Moseley`s Spawyche Elizabethan Pearl

Cream ,feminine throughout, characteristic well shaped head, stood well, straight front, adequate bone, length of leg, padded feet, firm body and top line retained on the move. Showed all her attributes to win R.C.C.

2                    Dolan`s Glenrood Dream Pipit.

Very similar to one, well put together, moved with animation, in full bloom.

3                    Hooton`s Penticharm Burning Desire.

L/B                  13  (3 abs)

1                    Dolan`s Glenrood Forever Beauty.

Fits her name aptly, lovely cairn head, has quality and type, sound, of correct size and conformation, alert and active. Shown in full double coat of rich texture. Considered her for R.C.C. but expression and presence of P/G bitch robbed her at the final moment.

2                    Weaver`s Copseleaze Little Gem.

G/B dark attractive headpiece, eye and earset, larger model than one, firm body, presented a good outline.

3                    Robinson`s Cruzo Ciara.

O/B                  9  (2 abs)

1                    Shaw`s CH Honeyhall Headway.

Top quality W/B. exquisite head, totally feminine throughout. Presented a lovely picture in profile with flowing neckline, topline and tail carriage. In full bloom tuned out to perfection. Unfortunately on the day the J/B stole the show with her exuberant personality and verve.

2                    Templeton`s Larchlea Looks Like Heaven.

G/B cairn outlook with quality and type. Mischievous eye and expression, sound bitch. Preferred stronger outline of one.

3                    Firth and Jones Cairngold Charcoal.

B/B                  6

1                    Carter`s T Look at Me Now

3rd from a strong U/G class. Appealing head and outline, alert and happy.

2                    Buttery`s C Cleopatra

2nd in veteran
