WELSH KENNEL CLUB
CAIRN TERRIERS
The entry of 99 from 98 dogs was very pleasing and I thank the
exhibitors for their sporting acceptance of the results. I am still impressed by
the way Cairns are shown free standing without stacking and propping, and long
may this continue. I also congratulate
exhibitors for both the cleanliness of the dogs and the fact that most of them
at least are still shown with enough coat. The breed in this country is
successfully, so far at any rate, managing to avoid the trend for over
presentation and over exaggerated handling which we see in so many other terrier breeds and even in Cairns in some
other countries. Well done!
I felt that fronts were better than they were a few years ago
and hind movement was in the main pretty good too. Overall I felt that the
breed was, from this showing, in better shape than on some previous occasions
when I have judged it.
MPD (4,2a)1. 6057 Weaver’s Keybough Shot In The Dark At Copseleaze, Much more mature than 2, not perhaps quite so
good in head but more finished otherwise, OK in coat for age, moved slightly
better in front, good hindquarters, correct topline and tail set, at the right
stage for his age but needs to develop somewhat in muzzle and foreface.
2 6048 Wall’s Shearwater Shiver m' Timbers, another pleasing youngster, but so much less mature than the
winner, good head and eye, pleasing in muzzle, good tail and coat OK for age.
Needs time to settle in front and to develop all through.
PD (4,2a) 1. Bambridge’s Carradine Master Guy, Smallish type, very much lacking in coat, but pretty good in
head and expression, good skull, pleasing in neck and topline, good short tail
and moved pretty well behind when he settled down and OK in front. A bit of a
handful but pleasing in type and again needs time to develop and settle in the
ring.
2. Pengilley’s Welsh Border, Not
showing at all well today and needs more confidence and interest in proceedings,
lost his outline when going around the
ring and difficult to assess his movement. Enough coat for his age, good skull,
could be better in muzzle. Enough bone but looked a shade dippy in back because
of his behaviour.
JD (4,0a) Thought the first two were very promising youngsters
1. 6045 Thompson’s
Castleline Prince Harry an
upstanding dog which was not small by any means, good head and expression,
correct eye and ears, pleasing neck and topline, excellent coat and good tail.
Moved well in front and behind with plenty of muscle.. Showed alertly, and
typical in outline.
2. 6036 Smee’s Oudenarde I'm Alright Jack another very pleasing dog with a good neck and topline close up
to winner. Typical Cairn coat, excellent
expression, good tail, not quite the showmanship of 1 and could be a shade
better in front but good in body and proportions. Scored in mouth over 3
3. 6059 Weedall’s Clairevona Venetian Mask.
ND – No entries.
GD (3,1a) 1. 6000 Gibson’s Glenmear Tempus Fugit a clear winner here but he was a shade stuffy in appearance,
good head with enough stop, correct skull, good eye. A shade overdone in
furnishings. Good in coat. Moved quite
well in front and OK behind, could do with a bit more ‘scope’. Correct tail and
kept his shape reasonably when moving around the ring.
2. 6067 Williams’ Celtic Conan, totally lacking in coat and carrying far too
much weight which did not help to improve his front. When he stood up he was
not too bad in topline but he needs a bit more ring training, enthusiasm and
coat, and a bit less weight.
PGD. (6,1a) 1. 5973 Birch’s Kinkim
Wattluq, pleasing dog that
moved pretty well behind, very good in head, neck, topline, tailset and
showmanship. Good dark points, good
eye, OK in bone and pleasing in proportions without being overdone for size.
2. 6031 Roberts’ Cannwood
Augurey, another one with
a good head and expression, good neck and topline, not quite so alert as 1,
pleasing in coat and scored over 3 somewhat behind, good feet and OK
tailset.
3. 6062 Weinberger’s Correnie
Altissimo.
LD (7,1a) It was a pity that one pleasing exhibit here had to
retire slightly lame in front. 1 6013Keeves & Bennett’s, Vanajam Amulet with Maxiveek, very pleasing dog with a good head and expression, good
topline, enough neck, good coat, could be a shade more positive in front, OK
behind, good outline, enough length without being overdone, excellent
showmanship all round and enough bone without over-exaggeration.
2. 5975 Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Loaded
Dice – a bit of a handful to
show, very good in head and expression with correct stop and good skull, not
driving quite so well as 1, though better there than 3. Good level back and tail set on correctly.
3. 6054 Mr M & Mrs E WATTS
Sarachelle the Helmsman.
OD (7,0) A good class with a number of quality exhibits but
headed by 1. 1176 Mrs J G PARKER-TUCKER Uniquecottage Tidy
Shoes, a very pleasing dog in
my view, caught my eye when he first went around the ring, pleasing in head,
correct neck and topline, good short tail.
I thought he scored very much in front and behind for free flowing
movement and good stride, correct rib,
very good coat, enough bone and well proportioned. I thought him a quality exhibit with type and was pleased to
award him the DCC and BOB.
2. 5974 Birch’s Kinkim Kenza
Ruffn Too moved more freely
than 3 and was not overdone in bone, good enough in head, excellent neck,
topline and tail set, and presented a well balanced impression. Showy and alert in attitude. RDCC.
3.6049 Wall’s Ch Shearwater Cae
de Sonhas.
MPB (9,1a) 1. 5991 Dolan’s Glenrood Magic Solitaire, pleasing youngster, very good and typical in head, skull and
expression with enough stop. A bit distracted by the grass at times. Good coat, correct tail carriage. Moved out
well behind and moved well enough in front for age, stands up nicely when she
is concentrating. BP
2. 5996 White’s Kervaig Gemima,
very good in head, good neck and excellent coat, not quite so positive behind
as 1, and needs to settle in elbow, very pleasing all round but needs a bit
more maturity to complete the picture.
3. 6028. Poile’s Kedvaiy Pascali
PB(7,2a) 1. 6042 Stephinson’s Twohoots Cecilia, pleasing puppy which
moved out quite well in front and behind, OK
in skull and correct ears, coat
good for age, good tail and set on, enough body length, needs to learn
to behave a bit better in the ring and stand up better.
2. 6011 Keeves’ Seveek Chasing
Dreams, slightly soft in
coat but coming on OK, good shower, pretty good in head, correct neck and
topline and good mover and scored in freedom of movement over 3. Enough bone.
3. 6039 Smith’s Rocasovale Sparkler
JB (10,2a)1. 6029 Pollock’s Stanedykes Diva. a very pleasing bitch all round, excellent head and expression
with good skull, stop and muzzle. Good
ears, good neck and topline, could be a shade more positive and free flowing in
movement. Pleasing in coat and has
plenty of type and quality and was well proportioned.
2. 6044 Thomas’s Tycadno Memphis Belle, a very sound bitch with a good head, plenty of coat, good
tail, moved pretty soundly but needs just a shade more by way of ‘lines’ to be
up with winner, scored in movement over 3
3. 6037 Smee’s Oudenarde Belle Amour.
NB (3,0a) 1. 6005:Hewitt’s Vanajam Touch of Gold of Littleacorn, pleasing in head and obviously scored in
maturity over the two puppies here, good in back, OK for size and coat, could
move a bit moiré positively all round and could stand up a bit better.
2 6003 Goud’s Beanoak Drunken Landlady, pleasing youngster but needs to develop a good deal in head,
moved with somewhat more enthusiasm than 3 but needs a bit more ring training.
Coat coming in well but hasn’t enough of it yet and needs to finish all round.
3. 6014 Keeves & Bennett’s Seveek One Moment in Time with Maxiveek.
GB 1. 5986:Catto’s Birselaw Perfect Moment, pleasing bitch which moved pretty well in front and behind,
good head and expression with the correct eye, muzzle and ears, good bone and
set on of tail, could do with a shade more neck to complete the picture.
2. 6008 Jeffrey’s Sandaig Suilean Dubh, another good one, typical in head and coat, positive movement,
good in outline and shape, slightly misbehaving at times when moving and needs
to settle more in the ring.
3. 6022. Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Celtic Song
PGB (10,1a) 1. 6006 Hughes’ Spawyche Dawn Chorus at Gyncairn, a very good bitch with an excellent head and
expression, good topline, good ears, good neck, correct tail and tail-set,
moved particularly well in front and behind Very good hindquarters and had a
good deal of quality. Coat looking
well. Typey..
2. 6009 Jeffrey’s Sandaig Skye Song,, better in size than 3, good head and expression, excellent
level back, not quite so positive in movement as 1, but well muscled, Could do with a shade more coat to complete
the picture.
3. 5995 White’s Kervaig Skye Sapphire.
LB (10,1a) A good class with some quality bitches.1. 6043. Templeton’s Larchlea Looks
Like Heaven very pleasing and
of good type. Very good expression and
eye, good skull, correct ears, correct harsh coat in which she scored slightly
over
2
Munday’s Stradivarius Sonata,
moved well in front and behind, good in bone and correct feet. Good in outline without being overdone in
any way. Went on to win RBCC.
2. 6019, very good in
head and expression with good ears and eye, correct amount of bone, very sound
in front and behind and scored in steadiness over 3, very close up to 1 and was
very feminine.
3. 6052 Ward’s Vanajam Trick A Treat.
OB (6,2a) 1. 6056 Waugh’s Ch Andrum Carlotta, very pleasing bitch which was all Cairn, could be better in
front but her other qualities carried her through to the BCC, good head and
typical expression, enough coat which is somewhere she scored over 2 here, good
neck and topline, pleasing hindquarters, not overdone for size and head in
proportion to body without being in anyway overdone. Well proportioned in
body.
2. 6027 Phillips’ Sarachelle Just Daisy at Jaeva, very pleasing in skull, didn’t hold her
topline as well as winner when going around the ring and could have had more
coat. Good in front and went well behind too, correct tail, pleasing muzzle,
scored for neck over 3.
3. 5987 Catto’s Birselaw Love Me Do.
