Midland Cairn Terrier Club
Open Show, Saturday 2 August 2003
It was an honour and pleasure to be asked to judge. I was disappointed in the quality of the
male dogs. Exhibits were clean, one or
two with sleep in the their eyes, mouths on the whole good. My main concern was off hind movement in
both sexes. Is this lack of exercise or
being kept in crates too long ? Free
running is most essential

VETERAN (6,3): 1 Buttery's Cloverbrook Cleopatra, in excellent
condition, harsh coat, nice head, good neck and shoulders, level topline, tail
carried correctly; 2 Braybrook's Colverbrook Casanova, wheaten of nice size,
correct eye, good feet standing four square; 3 Stephinson's Cloverbrook Noelia
MPD (3,2): 1 Fairweather's Ock Ross I'm the Boss, He was on the
day or tried to be ! Good confirmation and bone, true cairn head, hard to
assess movement but when settled saw all that was necessary on the move. Will watch progress with interest. Alone,
but well deserved his place
PD (2): 1 Stephinson's Twohoots Arthur, well presented in good
coat, attractive head, correctly placed ears and stop, good body shape; 2
Weedall's Clairevona Acrobat Son, R/BR, good type, almost 12mths, nice head
with dark points, excellent dentition, good confirmation, coat coming in
JD (3,1): 1 Crosby's Tolimaura Chace, not a big dog, wheaten
with dark points, in good coat and condition, firm and well muscled, level
topline held on the move; 2 Weedall's Clairevona Venetian Mask, one i have
judged before today and i understand did not settle for the long journey,
pity. Masculine head, correct
expression, not happy on the move
MD (1): 1 Weedall's Clairevona Acrobat Son
ND (1): 1 Weedall's Clairevona Venetian Mask
PGD (7,1): 1 Mears' Glenmear Malfoy, well up to size, upright
dog, all male in harsh coat in good condition, moved well before and after,
well constructed head, showed well; 2 Gibson's Glenmear Tempus Fugit, well
presented in good coat and condition, nice mover keeping top line and tail set
on the move, good legs and feet; 3 Spence's Harlight Hooray Hamish
MLD (5,1): 1 Wall's Shearewater Shansun D'Sonhas, would have
liked a little more size, appealing, with a true cairn expression, level back
of correct length and matching length of leg, moved well; 2 Stephinson's
Twohoots Advent Oberon, typical head and expression, in good coat, well
presented, moved and showed well; 3 Brown's Cloverbrook Talk of the Town
OD 1.A.
SBD (1): 1 Brough's Bincairn Zechariah, wheaten with dark
points, good outline, correct shape ribs, in good coat, covered the ground well
MPB (5,1): 1 Dolan's Glenroos Magic Solitaire, so confident, has
type and quality, correct angulation, lovely head and expression, well handled
and presented; 2 Weedall's Clairevona Tamaloner, such a baby, so sweet and
feminine, good reach of neck and topline, hope she grows on, so enjoying her
day out, very alert and showy; 3 Firth and Jones' Cairngold Cedar
PB (7,4): 1 Mears' Stanedykes Tosca, nice size, attractive head
and expression, well balanced outline, good coat, moved true; 2 Buttress'
Carradine Miss Embers, W/BR, confident girl, good confirmation and bone, cheeky
expression, correct dentition, showed well; 3 Owen's Caldwall Cordelia
JB (9,3): 1 Weedall's Clairevona Victorian Ice, red, dark
points, good mouth, correct eye and ear placements, level back of correct
length, matching length of leg, a little wilful today for handler; 2 Dolan's
Glenrood Dream Pippit, wheaten, shown in super condition. I was impressed how clean she was. Lovely to go over, correct shape ribcage,
pleasing head and neckline, preferred movement of 1, in a stubborn mood, not
concentrating on the job, typical cairn character; 3 Firth and Jones' Cairngold
Coral
MB (6,2): 1 Tracey's Retacy Amazing Grace, wheaten, alert and
responsive, well presented in good coat and condition; 2 Fairweather's Ock Dark
Truffles, D/BR, litter sister to BPD, not nearly so confident, in good coat,
cairny expression, needs time to mature
NB (5,3): 1 Watson's Carocairn Moulin Rouge by Fieldron,
wheaten, very alert, in good goat, attractive head and expression, correct
topline and tailset, shown on the move; 2 Buttery's Cloverbrook Cinderella,
WL/BR, good neck, head and tail set, moved well, lacked the sparkle of 1
PGB (8,2): 1 Jeffrey's Sandaig Suilean Dubh, GR/BR, so feminine,
liked her shape and keen expression, shaped eye a cairn should have (not
round), correct topline and reach of neck, moved well, just wanted her own way
on the table; 2 Braybrook's Cloverbrook Cute and Clever, apt name, quality
coat, well boned and bodied, moved confidently; 3 Butterfield's Camasmor
Coquette
MLB (6): 1 Buttress' Uniquecottage Gold Tilly, true cairn head
with that cheeky expression, sound and typical, good bone, correct shoulder
angulation, co-operated well with young handler; Dolan's Glenrood Forever
Beauty, and she is the latter ! feminine bitch, very well presented in good
coat, head typical, correct neat ears, good mouth, covered the ground well; 3
Jeffrey's Sandaig Skye Song
OB (6,1): 1 Shannon and Storr's Brenndarcy Solar Corona, wheaten
with nice dark points, correct stop and eye shape giving correct expression for
the breed, good coat, level topline and tail well set on, covered the ground
well; 2 Howard's Expect the Best, in excellent coat and condition, full of verve,
liked her head and expression, nice neck, good layback of shoulder, would have
liked a little more length of leg, confident show girl; 3 Braybrook's
Cloverbrook Here to Stay
SBB (7,2): 1 Butterfield's Camasmor Coquette, nice head, good
neck and shoulders, moved steadily; 2 Braybrook's Cloverbrook Cleopatra,
another enjoying her day out, good outline, attractive head, correct shape; 3
Purvis' Wilsummer Sea Lavender
