What a memorable day - such a wonderful entry with the finest of stewards!  On the down, side suspect or unacceptable mouths still give rise for concern, as well as untypical heads (some with prominent eyes),

and as far as movement is concerned well I think the least said about that the better!  On the plus side I had some very fine exhibits to go over, especially in the bitch classes where some lovely cairns had to leave the ring cardless.  I know from experience how disappointing it is when this happens and one is well aware that your own cairn is a good one, but only five can be placed and there can only be one winner.  It must always be how the dogs appear to the judge ON THE DAY and, of course, what competition they are up against.

Special Veteran Dog  3 (1a)

1.Goud's Davmar Viking Arrow.  Red/br. defying his 12.5 years.  In wonderful coat and condition showing his heart out.  Well deserved to be Best Veteran in Show.

2.  Moore's Cloverbrook Secret Weapon.  Nice 8.5 years old dark brindle.  Very nice type to go over.  Just could not match the showmanship of winner.

Special Veteran Bitch 6 (1a)

1. Jeffrey's Sandaig Silent Wings. Delightful 8 year old wheaten.  Loved her head and expression which is typical of this kennel.

2.  Stephinson's Cloverbrook Noella.  Another good headed wheaten almost 9 years old, obviously enjoying being in the ring again.

3.  Fairweather's Ock Enchanted Shadow.

Minor Puppy Dog 7 (1a)

1.  Felters & Rumens' Landbuck Little Tyke.   Full coated red/br. with very good head and eye.  Liked this one a lot and he should do well for his owners, but he does need to use his ears more.

2.  West's Junetta Victor.  Very nice silver/br.  Nicely balanced pup.  Moved soundly.  Another who should do well for his owner.

3.  Thompson's Casteline Jackard.

Puppy Dog 4 (1a)

1.  Poile's Kedvaiy Harlequin.  Most appealing red.  Nice pattern.  Very good showman. Promising. Will follow his progress with interest.

2.  Mears' Glenmear Billy Flynn.  Red/br. with very good head and eye. Another promising pup who  gave his handler a hard time but when he gets his act together should do well for his owner.

3.  Witts' Coalacre Cast A Spell.

Junior Dog 9 (1a)

1.  Middlehurst's Cannwood As If By Magic to Starveren.  This red/br. dog has a classic outline.  Standing well forward on good legs and feet. Head, topline and tailset cannot be faulted.  Moved soundly to win this good class.  Shouldn't have too much difficulty in gaining his crown.

2.  Shaw's Honeyhall Helluvaguy.  This wheaten/br. took my eye as he entered the ring and I thought he might well have been tough competition for the winner.  Fantastic head with deep stop, dark eye and he has the balance I look for.  A lovely cairn but suffice it to say the owner will know why he could not win the class.

3.  Cameron's Stryveling Young Lochinvar.

Maiden Dog 1

1.  Harrison & Inett's Carradine Percy Pickle.  Just out of puppy this red/br. won the class with ease!!   Very cairny and, as one has come to expect from his owner, was handled superbly.

Novice Dog 2 (1a)

1.  Culliford's Brenndarcy Country Mouse. Wheaten, and another who won the class with ease!!

Graduate Dog 6 (1a)

1.  Berrecloth's Sybster Spring Time.  Dark/br. of great quality.  One I pulled out in the challenge for consideration.  All cairn with classic head and expression. Good length of coat of correct texture.  Liked his length and movement.  One to watch for the future.

2.  Roberts' Cannwood Red Komet.  Appealing red excelling in head, topline and showmanship. Unlucky to meet winner in such good form.

3.  Smith's Rocasovale Good Luck Charm.

Post Graduate Dog 7

1.  Evans'  Birselaw Billy The Kid of Kapplegill.  Wh/br. with a typical "Birselaw" head which, in my view, everyone should aim for.  Good front, excellent outline and his steady showmanship gave him this good class.

2.  Thomas & Ward's Vanajam Three Wishes for Tycadno. Wh/br. who I have admired from the ringside and he did not disappoint.  Good head and eye, nicely balanced.  Well presented and handled.  Just preferred movement of winner today,.

3.  Fairweather's Ock I'm The Boss.

Limit Dog 12 (1a)

1.  Harrison & Inett's Hydecastle Flic Flac for Carradine.  Red with excellent outline and balance.  First class head and expression with the desired dark eyes.  Good big teeth which the standard calls for and which are sadly lacking in a lot of cairns these days. I have seen this dog throw his chances away in the past with his wilful behaviour but today he did everything asked of him and I was delighted to award him the RCC.  I just hope he maintains his composure as I feel there is a champion in the making here.

2.  Mears' Glenmear Malfoy.  Red, well up to size but a lovely cairn.  Another with good head and large teeth (so good to see).  He has not always been shown in the best of coats but today he looked good and he well deserved this place in this strong class.

3.  Weinberger's Correnie Altissimo.

Open Dog 6 (1a)

1.  Hogarty's Ir. Ch. Cadagio As Good As It Gets.  Stunning silver/br. of the highest quality.  Most beautiful head with twinkling, mischievous eyes. Well sprung ribs, excellent legs and feet, well muscled quarters, perfect outline and his handler got the very best out of him as he showed non-stop and moved faultlessly to gain the CC.  I was told afterwards that this was his second CC so, fingers crossed, I hope his third will not be long delayed.

2.  Harrison & Inett's Ch. Carradine Toblerone.  Red/br. with good front, neck, shoulders, topline and tailset presenting a very appealing picture.  Moved freely.  A worthy champion as were all in this lovely class.

3.  Hooper's Ch./Am.Ch. Birselaw Supertrooper.

Special Beginners Dog 4 (1a)

1.  Waites' Seveek Country Rambler to Svendalens.  Silver/br.  Nice headed wh/br. who his owner handed well to win this class.

2.  Castrey's Cloverbrook Angus McLee of Casmhor. This dark/br. youngster is a good cairn with lots of quality.  If only he would co-operate with his handler I am sure he would do some very useful winning.

3.  Cruxon's Cloverbrook Jackpot at Loxleyridge.

Minor Puppy Bitch 12 (4a)

1.  Braybrook's Cloverbrook Cyclone.  Aptly named dark/br. as she stormed round the ring as if she owned it. Lovely type with the best of heads.  Most promising.

2.  Dolan's Glenrood Dusty Pipip.  One from the same mould as winner, and looking at the breeding I can see why!  Silver/br. with very good outline with the daylight I like to see.  Two very nice pups.

3.  Keeves' Seveek River of Dreams.

Puppy Bitch 9 (2a)

1.  Catto's Birselaw It's My Moment.  And it was her moment as I was pleased to award her Best Puppy In Show.  Beautiful wheaten with a head to die for.  In full coat of correct texture and she was handled to perfection.  My guess is that she will have very many more "moments",

2.  Waites' Seveek Country Lover at Svendalens.  Pretty wheaten of very good make and shape. Very feminine.  Liked her a lot.

3.  Weinberger's Correnie Irresistable.

Junior Bitch 14 (2a)

1.  Templeton's Larchlea Remember Remember.  Dark brindle, super head with typical expression.  Not a small one but oozing quality.  This breeder certainly seems to know how to churn them out, all of the same wonderful type, without too much difficulty.  This young bitch did not put a foot wrong and well deserved to win this very good class.

2.  Sharp's Cannwood Kasta Spell.  Lovely red/br. youngster.  Loved her head, femininity, balance and movement.  Showed steadily to gain this excellent placing.

3.  Harrison & Inett's Curtisey Foreign Affair at Carradine.

Maiden Bitch 6

1.  Haukatsalo Irving's Cairngold Cassis at Haukantorppa.  Red/br. with lovely head and expression.  Nicely balanced and well handled.

2.  Shannon & Storr's Brenndarcy Miss Demeanour.  Pretty wheaten, neat ears, plenty of neck, in rapport with her handler.

3.  Percy's Uniquecottage Celtic Charm.

Novice Bitch 12 (2a)

1.  Templeton's Larchlea Let Me Entertain U.  Another good one from this kennel.  Wh/br. up to size but no mistaking quality.  Good length of back and plenty of leg.  Moved and showed beautifully.

2.  Weinberger's Correnie Felicia.  Nicely made red with good reach of neck, level back and correct tail carriage.  Just preferred movement and showmanship of winner today.

3.  Evans' Nuvan Little Mo.

Graduate Bitch 16 (3a)

1.  Shopland's Cherrycrack Chasing Aimee.  Classy red/br. who should have a rosy future.  Standing well forward on good legs and feet.  Typical head and expression.  Moved really well.  A lovely bitch.

2.  Kinton's Woodthorpe Luck Be a Lady.  Red/br. Excellent head.  Dead level back, correct tailset and good mover.  Another lovely bitch.

3.  Hooton's Penticharm Deep Secret.

Post Graduate Bitch 14 (4a)

1.  Middlehurst's Starveren Chance to Dream.  Well constructed wh/br. in very good coat and condition. Loved her head and expression.  Good neck and shoulders.  Very nicely balanced and a sound mover.

2.  Weedall's Clairevona Astronomical.  Red/br. with gorgeous head and intense expression. Lovely type of cairn.

3.  Fyffe's Andrum Love in a Mist.

Limit Bitch 18 (4a).

What a wonderful class of top quality bitches.  A joy to judge.

1.  Pollock's Stanedykes Diva.  This super dark br. bitch has exceeded all my expectations since I judged her last year when I thought she was a nice bitch but nothing special.  I think she has developed into a wonderful specimen of the breed with classic head, perfect shape, and today she filled my eye completely. Although she was not entered as a champion I know she has now achieved her title and I can see why.  A very worthy champion!!  I was pleased to award her the RCC in a hotly contested challenge.

2.  Catto's Birselaw Special Moment.  Red.  Another beautiful bitch from this kennel.  As one would expect the head is one to drool over and all her other attributes makes for a bitch of the highest order ready to rake in CCs in the not too distant future.

3.  Parker-Tucker's Uniquecottage Glengettie.

Open Bitch 9 (2a)

1.  Shaw's Ch. Honeyhall Hijinx.  What can I say about this outstanding wh/br. bitch?  I gave her Best Puppy last year at Bournemouth and thought then that she would have an easy passage to her crown. She has everything I look for in a cairn.  She is femininity personified, very difficult to fault and, I agree with the comments of other judges, that she is a hard one to beat at this point in time. She moved, showed and was handled to perfection and I was pleased to award her yet another CC to add to her growing collection, as well as BEST IN SHOW.

2.  Munday's Ch. Stradivarius Sonata.  Dk/br. and another very worthy champion.  Super head and eye, in good coat, a great mover and showed really well.  A strong contender for RCC.

3.  Dolan's Ch. Glenrood Forever Beauty.

Special Beginners Bitch 10

1.  Seveek Country Lover at Svendalens.

2.  Smith's Sybster Spring Song.

3.  Haukatsalo Irving's Copsleaze Here's Me at Haukantorppa.
