Scottish Kennel Club – 28th August 2004

I understand that this was the first S.K.C. show with re-instated C.C.’s for Cairn Terriers.  It was a pity that that the S.K.C. Committee hadn’t thought of advertising this fact in the Breed Notes, perhaps it may have improved the entry?

I thank those exhibitors who did enter, thanks also to my two very efficient stewards.  Now to the dogs’. I found several ‘suspect’ mouths, a few round eyes and coats on some exhibits were not to the standard as they were lacking in undercoat.  However the top winners were of the highest standard.

Minor Puppy Dog     No entries

Puppy Dog  1

1st       Chambers & Thomas’s Cairngrove Red Rascal.  10 month old light red dog.  Stood alone in this class.  Masculine head, correct mouth, level, solid topline, good tailset.  Nicely proportioned, very alert.  A handful for his handler today, but deserved his win.

Junior Dog     4  (4)

1st        Berrecloth’s Sybster Spring Time.  Silver brindle.  Liked his outline when he pulled himself together. Strong masculine head, good mouth, correct coat, level topline good tailset.  Moved well when settled, good showman. RDCC

2nd       Smith’s Rocasovale Good Luck Charm. Red brindle, level topline, good tailset, nice depth of brisket.  Well muscled quarters, showed well.

3rd       Cameron’s Stryveling Young Lochinvar

Novice Dog  No entries

Post Graduate Dog  4  (4)

1st       Evan’s Birselaw Billy the Kid of Kapplegill.  Red brindle, good masculine head.  Level solid topline, moved and showed well.

2nd       Treglown’s Brenndarcy Danger Mouse.  Grey brindle, carrying a bit too much weight which detracts from his overall appearance. Steady mover.

3rd       Chambers Honeylyn Superman

Limit Dog 3 (3)

1st        Brown’s Cloverbrook Talk of the Town.  Well presented smart grey brindle.  Good head, level topline, good tailset, well muscled quarters, good showman.

2nd       Mear’s Glenmear Malfoy. Big red dog, masculine head, good mouth.  Coat not at its best.  Not as positive in front as 1.

3rd       Treglown’s Cairngrae Phantom Menace.

Open Dog 3 (3)

1st        Braybrook’s Ch. Cloverbrook Loaded Dice.  Dark brindle, I don’t think I can say anything that hasn’t already been said about this dog.  He outshone the competition today on overall appearance, movement and pure showmanship. D.C.C.

2nd       Catto’s Ch/Am.Ch. Birselaw Super Trooper. Another dark brindle. Again there is little left to say about him, however I preferred the front movement of 1.

3rd       Short’s Glenchess Black Tie.

Minor Puppy Bitch  4 (3)

1st        Catto’s Birselaw It’s My Moment, and it certainly was.  Beautiful 6 month wheaten brindle.  Another cracker from this kennel.  She has everything I look for in a puppy.  The best of feminine heads with a lovely mischevious expression.  Extrovert showgirl with excellent confirmation and soundness.  One of the most promising bitch puppies I have seen in a long time.  Best Puppy.

2nd       Gowan’s Fair Lady Goldberry from Bengalhill.  6 ½ month red brindle.  A little nervous at first, but once she had settled she moved o.k. Her overall balance was spoilt by her untrimmed tail.

3rd       Parker Tucker’s Unique Cottage Wilhelmina (naf)

Puppy Bitch 3 (2)

1st        Templeton’s Larchlea Remember Remember. 91/2 month dark brindle.  Feminine head and expression, good mouth.  Best of fronts solid topline good tailset.  Well muscled quarters, moved with drive.

2nd       Watts Honeyhall Helluvagal for Jancairn.  11 month wheaten brindle.  Carrying too much weight which spoilt  both movement and overall appearance.

Junior Bitch 4 (4)

1st        Parker Tucker’s Unique Cottage Glengettie. Red brindle, best of heads with the true Cairn expression.  Level topline, which she kept on the move, good tailset.  Moved well once settled.  Sound throughout, needs nurturing.

2nd       Percy’s Uniquecottage Celtic Charm. Red brindle, good head, best of coats, well presented, steady mover.

3rd       Smith’s Rocasovale All That Jazz

Novice Bitch 3  (3)

1st        Templeton’s Larchlea Let Me Entertain U. Wheaten brindle, feminine head excellent mouth.  Excelled in front, solid topline, good tailset, well muscled quarters-obviously puts in a lot of mileage at home. Moved freely, showed well.

2nd       Parker Tucker’s U.C Wilhelmina (naf) Wheaten extrovert.  Moved well when settled, but her tail spoilt the picture.

3rd       Pratt’s Carradine Skylark at Terrijay.

Post Graduate Bitch  1

1st        Catto’s Cairness’s Nordic Princess at Birselaw (IMP) Wheaten brindle.  Stood alone in this class.  Feminine head and expression, best of mouths. Level topline, well angulated and muscled quarters.  Moved with drive.

Limit Bitch  1

1st       Pollock’s Stanedykes Diva Grey brindle, On her own in this class.  Good head, best of mouths.  Heavy coat which gave the impression that she was overweight, which she wasn’t.  Well muscled quarters, moved and showed well.

Open Bitch 2

1st        Shaw’s Ch. Honeyhall Hijinx wheaten brindle.  One I have admired from the ringside, she didn’t disappoint on the table.  I have nothing to add to the critiques from previous shows other than the ring was hers today.  She was really on her toes and was handled to perfection. B.C.C. and B.O.B.

2nd       Munday’s Stradivarious Sonata grey brindle.  Another nice type with the best of heads, topline and tailset.  Sound mover.   R.B.C.C.
