Cairn Terriers
The quality of the males was not as outstanding as the bitches but nonetheless the final dog line-up contained some lovely younger exhibits –their progress I will watch with interest.
The open bitch class was very pleasing. From my notes on the day I wrote “superb class – I wish I had four first prizes”. This is where a champion class would come into its own. If the first two in Open were in a champion’s class then the next two would have had the CC and reserve CC. This was by far the best class on the day.
Minor Puppy Dog (5,4)
1st Middlehursts Cannwood As If By Magic
Smart well made male with plenty of substance throughout. Typical expression, just needing more head furnishings to complete the picture on an otherwise strongly constructed head. A joy to feel one so young having well muscled hind quarters and complemented with a good tailset and bend of stifle. Correct texture to coat if very short at present, which lost him the challenge for BP
2nd Braybrooks Cloverbrook Wild Card
Similar type of puppy to 1 he just lost out today on the overall finished picture which was not as smart as 1.
3rd Weinbergers Correnie Magicienne
Looking very immature against his two competitors today but has everything in the right place for a bright future
Puppy Dog (2,2)
1st Okanes Keybrough Jack Daniels
A lovely headed youngster showing all out and full of Cairn character.
2nd Oughs Ocedar Zephyr
Well-balanced male, lovely expression short profuse coat making him look stockier than 1 today
Junior Dog (4,4)
1st Thomas & Wards Vanajam Three Wishes for Tycadno
Excellent size and balance, excelling in front assembly that showed in his sound front action. Have watched this youngster since puppy and pleased to see that he is maturing very well. I will watch his future with interest.
2nd Parker- Tuckers Uniquecottage Chipmunk
A well-balanced and proportioned young male. Consistently showy but very playful on the move making his movement hard to assess and against the soundness of 1, today this male could not compete on soundness.
3rd Leeses Cloverbrook Silver Rebel
Showy young male, needing time to mature
Post Graduate (6,6)
I was pleased with the first three males who could with the wind in another direction all swap places
1st Wests Junetts Ludycrous
I was horrified to see this male presented in a “westie trim”, but the fingers did the talking and I was very impressed with his overall construction under “that” hairdo. Nothing overdone. He has a masculine head flowing down a good length of neck into beautifully placed shoulders. His front action clearly displayed his well-made front assembly. Good depth of rib (which so many lack) and correct length of loin. Correctly placed tail and bend of stifle producing sound rear action. His presentation did distract from his overall appearance but could not deny him top honours today. RCC
2nd Confues Anjofra Bang on the Door
A lovely red male. Not happy at being shown undercover and this was a shame, could have been up for top honours but was not settled today. Well made throughout and certainly has personality.
3rd Thompsons Castleline Prince Harry
A lovely dog to go over, not the best of heads for expression and his presentation exaggerated his this, which for me took him away from top honours today.
Limit (4,2)
Two very smart males, both with a lot to like. Just preferred the stronger masculine head of 1.
1st Wards Vanajam Hallowen
No getting away from the fact that this one is all male so masculine throughout but about as stubborn as they come and does not make the most of himself. Holds his topline on the move, soundly covering the ground and showed all out to beat the hot competition from:
2nd Weinbergers Correnie Altissimo
Wonderful front assembly on this dog. If you want to know what correct front assembly feels like then this is the dog. Just not looking very enthusiastic today and letting himself down which must be frustrating for his owner/handler.
Open (6,6)
The first two in the class are very good dogs and will no doubt swap places on another day but today I just preferred the expression of 1.
1st Braybrooks Ch Cloverbrook Loaded Dice
An old favourite of mine, having awarded him the RCC as a puppy. Really pleased to see he has matured into a top class male. Excelling in typical head and expression, correct length of neck flowing into well-made shoulders creating sound front movement. Good depth of rib and loin. Excellent rear action driving round the ring. Presented in natural but smart manner, which is ideal for our moderns Cairns. Really pleased to award him CC today in hot competition.
2nd Roberts Cannwood Auguery
Unfortunate to meet 1 today. A quality male, very well presented, ultra smart, moving well round the ring, but could not match the expression of one today.
3rd Peers Tweedisle Truffle at Glanzvoll
Large male, needing to mature.
Minor Puppy Bitch ((7, 4)
Three lovely pups all quite different but headed today by the star of the puppies:
1st Roberts Cannwood Catcha Fallin Star
Oh way a baby! Impressed me on her way into the ring. Feminine throughout and so well made, she moved a treat for one so young and showed all out. Best Puppy in Breed, which she won over her brother. Will certainly watch her future with progress.
2nd Parker Tuckers Uniquecottage Wilhelmina
Similar in type to 1. Feminine head but carrying her tail a little high for top honours today.
3rd Weinbergers Correnie Felicia
Needs time to mature but has all the essentials
Puppy (3,3)
Lovely class of three babies
1st Smees Malmay Fancy Goods
Was very naughty today, but this could be excused as she is beautifully made throughout, with a lovely head and expression and good spring of rib. Moved well for a few strides when settled.
2nd Weinbergers Correnie Hi Lily and 3rd Hootons Penticharm Deep Secret
These two quite different types but both promising pups, 2nd just having the edge on coat today.
Junior (9,6)
1st and 2nd are very different types but it was a close decision.
1st Parker Tuckers Uniquecottage Glengettie
Lovely bitch. Very feminine head and well made throughout, producing Ok movement. Full of life and animation.
2nd Thomas Tycadno Caprice
Soundly constructed throughout. Not as settled as 1. on the move and hard to assess her movement, even though she had plenty of chances. Going on her sound construction she won 2nd in good competition. She just needs time to mature.
3rd Radfords Skimmerton Silver Touch
A well-made bitch with feminine head.
Post Graduate ((14,12)
A very strong class today, not much at all to choice between first three.
1st Dolans Glenrood Magic Solitaire
A very extrovert shower. Could not be ignored in hot competition today. When she got her mind on the job she moved out well. Beautiful head and excellently constructed throughout. Just beaten to top honours by her kennel mate.
2nd Wards Vanajam Piewaket
Superb show off. Handles beautifully on the table. Short of head furnishings today which distracted from her well made head and meant she had to go 2nd today.
3rd Hootons Penticharm Lots of Love
A good quality bitch, presented in excellent coat and condition.
Limit ((7,7)
Three good quality bitches headed up this class.
1st Smees Oudenarde Belle Amour
Very showy bitch. Excelling in confirmation which showed in her free flowing movement. Presented to show off her assets. Very feminine throughout.
2nd Winsleys Davmar Silver Heather
Impressive bitch of top quality. For me, today she was carrying too much body coat which didn’t show off her excellent confirmation and balance. Very feminine throughout.
3rd Firth & Jones Cairngold Cedar
A good quality bitch, not settled today but just needs time to mature.
Open (9,7)
A superb class today could have done with four 1st prizes.
1st Shaws Ch Honeyhall Hijinx
CC & BOB – A beautiful feminine bitch. Fits the standard to a “T”. Gorgeous head and expression, spot on length of neck flowing into well made shoulders, level topline which she held on the move. Beautifully presented to enhance her many assets. This bitch is an example of how we should present our Cairns.
2nd Dolans Glenrood Forever Beauty
Now a Champion and unfortunate to meet 1 today. Of finer substance throughout but moved with ease around the ring and showed all out to win RCC. Excellent head and expression well presented and goes over on the table very well.
3rd Hootons Penticharm Time to Party
Very impressed with this bitch today but couldn’t match the first two for coat. Well presented with what coat she had. Very good head, neck and shoulders which produced good front action. Lovely to go over and nothing to hide.
Dawn Formosa.
