The Midland Cairn terrier Club held an open show at Shirland Village hall, Derbyshire on Sunday 8th August 2004, my thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge at this show and for helping to make it a most enjoyable occasion. Also my sincere thanks to all the exhibitors for coming on this warm and uncomfortably sticky day.

VD OR B (7,2a) All in very good condition for their ages.

1.      Fairweather’s Ock Enchanted Shadow, 7 ½  yrs cream bitch, enchanted me today, not looking her age, with the most pretty head and melting dark eyes, neat ears & good teeth, liked her trim figure, in good coat, alert and ready to go, moved happily and steadily.

2.      Moore’s Cloverbrook Secret Weapon, 8 yr gr/br dog, typical cairn expression with nice head furnishings. Well presented, moved well.

3.      Jeffrey’s Sandaig Silent Wings

New Members Stakes

1.      Purvis’s Shearwater High Jinks. Smaller cream bitch with finer boned head, but nice expression. Coat ok, tidy outline. Presented and shown well.

2.      Waite’s Seveek Country Rambler at Svendalens, Gr/Br Strong masculine head and up to size boy, good teeth & nice ear placement. Tidy feet, in good coat, front movement not as good as 1st.

MPD (3,1a)

1.      Mears’ Glenmear Billy Flynn, 8 months red brindle, typical head with good eye and ear set. Correct teeth, nice each of neck, good length of leg and proportion to body, level backline into tailset. Movement was steady.

2.      Bratley & Holmes’ Amberhill Rob Roy, 8 ½  months dk gr/br, nice Cairn expression with good head furnishings. Correct teeth. Would benefit from coat tidying in places to show off his outline. Well made, unsettled on the table and movement.

PD (4,2a)

  1. Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Wild Card, 9 months D Gr/br. Quality mature puppy, with head full of expression & mischievous eye. Liked his build good quarters, of med length back & balanced med leg. Good topline with well carried tail. Very showy, he moved well. B.P.D. , B.P. & R.B.D.
  2. Robert’s & Middlehurst’s Cannwood Red Comet, red, another quality youngster of 9 ½  months smaller than 1, but balanced with level topline into tailset. Good head & dark eye. Well presented in good coat. Moved well, just preferred movement of 1.

JD (2,1a)

  1. Culliford’s Brenndarcy Country Mouse. Wheaten, short on head furnishings today and would like more stop, nice eye & neat ears. Showed Ok.

MD (3}

  1. Cannwood Red Comet
  2. Cruxon’s Cloverbrook Jackpot, gr/br, smart and alert, with good head nice reach of neck into good shoulders.. Med & level back well sprung ribs. Steady movement.

PGD (5,2a)

  1. Fairweather’s Ock Ross I’m The Boss eye catching lt gr/br, son of Vet winner. Lots to like about him lovely true Cairn head, upstanding, of med size with good proportions, impressed as being active and alert, in goog coat. Moved with good back movement.

MLD (4,2a)

OD (3,1a)

  1. Shorter & Nuttal’s Spawyche Elizabethian Jet. B.O.S. Dark brindle, handsome fellow, very showy with character, good head although a little shorter in back than I like, he is balanced, strong quarters, stood full square. Nice turn of stifle, correct tail set. Showed all out for B.D.
  2. Brown’s Cloverbrook talk of The Town, Close decision between 1&2. Gr/br larger than 1st with masculine head, neck well set on. Balanced , with level backline nice tailset, in good coat, presented in nice condition, wished he had held his ears erect when moved today, but otherwise moved and showed well.

SBD (3)

  1. Seveek Country Rambler To Svendalens
  2. Cloverbrook Jackpot
  3. Cloverbrook Silver Rebel

MPB 2,1a)

  1. Bratley & Holmes’ Amberhill Dancing Queen, 8 ½ gr/br. Pretty head, with good dark eye. Soundly made, but would like to see her carrying a little less weight to improve her outline, with more tail furnishings, needs to settle on table.

PB (6,1a)

  1. Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Cayos, 11 ½ months, red very feminine head, carried ears well striking & showy nicely made. Moved well, enjoying her showing.
  2. Roberts’ Cannwood Catcha Fallin Star. Another sweet smallish bitch with nice eye, ear & teeth. Not quite so mature as 1. Shown in good coat. Moved well both fore & aft.
