CRUFTS CAIRN TERRIERS 10/03/05

It was a great honour to be asked to judge at CRUFTS, I would like to thank the exhibitors that entered under me and the sporting way that they accepted my decisions. Although not the largest of entries it is the quality that counts not quantity and the quality was superb, making it a very difficult in some classes, especially having to see beautiful cairns going home with no award.

I agree with last years judge who touched on the subject of grading systems as in Europe. I feel this is a much better system of judging, enabling some excellent cairns that were unplaced to at least go home with a certificate of excellence. We pay a lot of money to enter our dogs at a show and sometimes come away wondering why did that judge not like my dog, at least if we had a report to take home we would know. We might not always agree with the judges remarks, although, if we were consistently getting the same remarks from different judges we would have to wonder. I also believe that this would help maintain a good standard of judging, making judges more accountable for their actions.

OPEN DOG 13 (1)

The best class of the day.

1st,C.C. & B.O.B. Karlson’s CH. KRAMER’S KNIGHT RIDER, where do I start? I had the privilege to judge this dog some 18 months ago in Finland and he impressed me then with his breed type, soundness and lack of exaggeration in any way especially his hindquarters, in a country, amongst others in Scandinavia where in my opinion some breeders are ruining our lovely breed by breeding dogs with excessively angulated hindquarters. He was a young dog then and 18 Months on has matured into a truly wonderful dog, I find this dog hard to fault, he has a head to die for, so well balanced, and watching him move around the ring brings tears to my eyes, I WISH HE WERE MINE!

2nd. Lindborg and Nordstrand’s, CH. RASKENS ROYAL TRADE MARK, another dog of exceptional quality, well balanced dark brindle with very good head and expression, excellent neck and layback of shoulder, level topline, very strong well angulated hindquarters, very sound mover with plenty of drive.
