The CTC held its 72nd
Championship show at the Cochrane hall, Alva, Clackmannanshire with a first
class entry of 151 from 130 dogs. We
were blessed with a glorious day and although judging took place inside, the
warm, sunny atmosphere certainly prevailed in the hall very well! Club shows are much more friendly and
enjoyable events than the hectic all breeds championship shows where timing is
everything. I could not have wished for
a better day; of course judging is a serious business but it is also meant to
be an enjoyable pastime and I really hope the exhibitors and committee enjoyed
the show as much as I did.
Cairn Terriers are “big
personality” dogs and quite good at showing off! This was obvious throughout the day where we had various degrees
of “hi jinks” in the ring, somersaults and very high leaps in the air! Some of the lower dog classes were a bit
thin on the ground but LD and OD more than made up for this in quality. The bitch classes were nearly all very good
and I had some delightful puppies.
Having flown to Edinburgh I
had chauffeur service to and from everywhere and my night’s stay in
Tillycoultry with its lovely views was most acceptable.
Secretary Karen Evans and
her committee must have worked very hard to make everything run like clockwork
and I much appreciated a weekend of true Scottish hospitality.
Best in Show was Ch Cannwood
As If By Magic To Starveren JW; RBIS Int & Multi Ch Kramer’s Night Rider;
BOS Birselaw I Got You Babe; BO Cannwood Camilla, a daughter of BIS & B
Veteran Chrianbi Coxcomb Prominent.
VD (3,1)
- Bradshaw’s Tweslam Magic Time, 7 years, very fit
typy dog of good size, quality head, firm body, lovely jacket, moved OK
but took himself rather seriously and could have been a little more
animated.
- Jennings’ Doonrae Virtuoso, nearly 9 but I don’t
think he knows that! Very lively
indeed but pulled on the lead so that movement was not easy to
assess. Harsh coat but rather a
lot of it, tailset could be better. Attractive head, plenty of character.
VB (2)
- Jeffrey’s Sandaig Silent Wings, 8 and a half
years, good coat, pleasing head, expressive eyes, well proportioned, eager
showgirl. Moved better than
- Cameron’s Kinkim Lisa Lumm of Stryveling, 9 and
a half years, feminine outlook, showed with great enthusiasm, good coat,
failed in hind movement. Two
rather portly ladies.
Vintage (6,1)
- Best Veteran, Rae’s Chriambi Coxcomb Prominent,
10 years plus, grey/brindle, in good form, excellent topline and quarters,
weather resistant coat, no mistaking sex in head and general outlook, well
set & carried tail, firm, fit body, focused showman.
- Cameron’s Ch Pinetop Havana of Stryveling, at 13
and a half years his front movement is no longer his best feature but he
has kept a slim figure, typical head.
Bit deaf and probably not seeing too well but a game little chap,
ready for anything.
- Middlehurst’s Ch Starveren Chance a Glance
MPD (2,1)
- Shopland’s Cherrycrack Mack The Knife, seven and
a half months, showy puppy, on his toes but with a will of his own! Clean and well presented, smart
mover. Head needs to develop and
topline to settle.
PD (4,1) Difficult class
- Dalzell’s Laganside The Red Barron, seven and a
half months red, excellent coat, body & topline, keen expression, alert
showman, well handled.
- Jeffrey’s Sandaig Shearer, eleven months quality
puppy but not in best coat & he was a real hooligan today, refused to
settle down standing or moving or could have won this class, attractive
head, fit body.
- Keenan’s Shabanagh Lord Dudley
JD (3,2)
- Firth, Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Cosmonaut,
excellent quality & type, I liked this 17 month old dog very much, by
same sire as BIS winner. Smart,
keen looking youngster in good form, used his neck to best advantage
standing, easy mover, well carried tail, pleasing head, sparkling, bright
eyes, fit & well muscled. Was
in the last 3 for the challenge.
ND (2)
- S Shearer, still being the “wild child”
UGD (3,1)
- Frost’s Penticharm Black Jack, 18 months gr/br
of good type, firm topline, well muscled quarters, keen eyes &
expression, moved & showed quite well.
- Ough’s Ocedar Zephyr, 2 years, not in the mood
to co-operate today & never settled down to move in an orderly
fashion. Harsh jacket, masculine
head, needs a bit of schooling.
GD (3,2)
- Dalzell’s Laganside Super Trooper, same dam as
the PD winner, 14 months, quality head, dark, expressive eyes, firm, fit
body, well handled, good quarters.
Needs more reach in front movement.
PGD (6,2)
- Chambers & Thomas’ Cairngrove Red Rascal,
red of nearly 2, most attractive head & expression, good outline, body
& quarters, excellent jacket, brisk mover, steady showman, kept
interested to the end.
- Smith’s Rocasovale Good Luck Charm, 2 years
gr/br, assertive & very masculine, dark intelligent eyes, plenty of
terrier spirit, well coated & bodied, up to size.
- Burton’s Minorcas Yours Truly
LD (6,2) Good class, very even
- Berrecloth’s Sybster Spring Time, 2 and a half
years, such a fit and agile dog, bouncing with good health &
happiness, masculine head, lovely eyes, full of himself, good feet, well
sprung ribs, level back, correct coat, moved soundly. Up to size but a lovely cairn who tried
so hard in the challenge. On the
last couple of laps around the ring he got a bit too happy with his
tail. Most appealing in every way.
- Evans’ Birselaw Billy The Kid of Kapplegill, 3
years gr/br, attractive head, broad skull, dark eyes, good outline &
overall proportions, well set tail, gay, happy showman. Not quite the free stride in movement of
1st.
- Stephinson’s Twohoots Arthur
OD (7)
- CC & BIS, Middlehurst’s Ch Cannwood As If By
Magic to Starveren JW, coming up to 2 years. I thought he was quite lovely, marvellous silhouette which
he kept at all times, standing or moving.
Quality head, clean neck & shoulders, firmest of toplines, well
knit body, correct tailset & carriage, sound active mover, plenty of
character, intelligent showman, who could not stand wrongly. Impressed me from start to finish.
- RCC, Karlsson’s Int & Multi Ch Kramer’s
Night Rider, real eyecatcher & full of quality, never put a foot
wrong, expertly handled by Liz Hooton who has the ability to “magic”
everything out of her charges.
Three years, harsh jacket, dark points giving keen alert
expression, excellent topline & quarters. Polished performer, moved with precision. Two top class Cairns.
- Shaw’s Honeyhall Helluvaguy
BD (2)
- Tweslam Magic Time
- Ocedar Zephyr
MPB (7,4)
- Best Puppy, Roberts’ Cannwood Camilla, 6 months
dark brindle, absolutely irresistible with that wicked glint in her eyes,
showed with style & composure – occasionally forgetting what she was
supposed to do but that only added to her charm. Pretty head, so coy & feminine, good topline, neckline
& hindquarters, fluent mover.
Full of promise.
- Shaw’s Honeyhall Head over Heels, 8 months, very
nice head & expression, natural showgirl, eager to please, well
proportioned with good body, strong back end, moved well, front needs to
tighten.
- Cameron’s Stryveling Isle of Taransdy
PB (14,2)
- Hooton’s Penticharm Carribean Queen, 11 months,
all quality & most typical of this kennel, dark knowing eyes, shaped
body, firm topline, good coat, sound.
- Marshall’s Kenmilfore Lady Marmalade, nearly 12
months, attractive well constructed puppy in good form, well fitting
jacket, neat head, keen & alert showgirl, moved well. Close up
- Towers’ Deneland Catherine
JB (14,3) Quite a class with plenty of choice
- CC Catto’s Birselaw I Got You Babe, accomplished
showgirl who caught my eye as they went round, certainly did not
disappoint at close quarters, typical head, bright eyed, well place
shoulders, well sprung ribs, good feet, firm body & topline, well
muscled quarters, free mover, no exaggerations, really had to pull out all
the stops to beat the OB winner in the bitch challenge. Just coming 18 months so has a bright
future ahead.
- Mears’ Glenmear Marcuella, 13 months gr/br with
lots to like, well proportioned with good topline, quality head, excellent
type, well conditioned & coated, sensible showgirl, moved OK, well
handled.
- Confue’s Anjofra Queen of Tarts
MB (5,2)
- Stephens’ Sybster September Morn, 12 months
plus, easy winner her, moving a shade close behind but showing with
animation and made the most of herself, appealing head, expressive eyes,
weather resistant coat, firm & fit, well handled
- Dowling’s Black Rod Bo Peep, pretty yearling but
not keen to use her tail. Harsh
jacket, feminine head, dark eyes.
Moved OK behind but a bit loose in front. Needs to show with a bit more spirit
- Miller’s Cornton Cadrach
NB (9)
- Sybster September Morn
- Haukatsalo’s - Irving’s Cairngold Cassis At
Haukantorppa, 2 years, full of confidence, good topline standing but did
not quite hold it as firmly on the move.
Attractive head, expressive eyes, low set hocks, good feet.
- Confue’s Anjofra Nine West
UGB (8,1)
- Petts’ Cannwood Kasta Spell at Doonrae, feminine
brindle in splendid form, very good size & type, excellent coat, body
& proportions, fit & healthy, moved & showed well. Litter sister to BIS
- Cairngold Cassis At Haukantorppa
- Rae’s Chrianbi Tangle of the Isles
GB (10,1) Nice class of good quality
- Hooton’s Penticharm Deep Secret, 2 years,
feminine bitch, copybook showgirl, clean & well presented, quality
head, has that air of importance, moved & showed well, good
outline. Sympathetically &
most competently handled to look her best
- Catto’s Birselaw It’s My Moment, 19 months, typy
bitch but not in her best bib and tucker today, pleasing head, wicked
expression, moved well, good topline, well proportioned
- Dolan’s Glenrood Dusty Pipit
PGB (13,3)
- Rae’s Chrianbi Sweet Perfume, won a hot class, I
liked this 4 years brindle, excellent coat, attractive head, keen bright
eyes & expression, game & hardy, showed for all she was worth,
moved Ok. Had to work hard to beat
- Moseley’s Spawyche Elizabethan Ruby, 2 years,
good quality & type, quite a live wire, extrovert temperament, in good
coat & form, feminine head, firm topline & quarters, well handled,
a little loose in front.
- Stephinson’s Twohoots Cecilia
LB (11,3)
- Templeton’s Larchlea Remember Remember, not yet
2, well up to size this gr/br, but so fresh looking, healthy & sound,
that I could not resist her.
Excellent harsh jacket, well sprung ribs, strong pads, good feet,
intelligent showgirl who gave 100%, good tailset & carriage, free stride,
broad skull, full of expression
- Dolan’s Glenrood magic Solitaire, 2 and three
quarter years, smart bitch of good quality, pleasing head, dark eyes but
panting & looking slightly worried.
Correct coat, firm body, topline & quarters, moved & showed
OK but just did not seem completely relaxed in this hall
- Hooton’s Penticharm Time To Party
OB (11,4) Super class which took me a bit of time to
sort out
- RCC, Templeton’s Ch Larchlea Looks Like Heaven,
good name for a lovely bitch & what an animated showgirl, half sister
to the LB winner & more the size I like. Excellent type, game & agile, lovely head, lively, keen
expression, coat & conditioning just right, sturdy body, loved every
moment of being in the ring.
Probably the closest decision of the day when she just lost out to
the Junior Bitch in the challenge on tail carriage.
- Catto’s Birselaw Special Moment, this exhibitor
was fielding an exceptional team of young talent & this one was no
exception. Classy bitch, well
proportioned, good body, coat & quarters, quality head, keen expression,
on her toes, willing showgirl responding well to her handler, went well as
did
- Hooton’s Penticharm Burning Desire, completing a
top class trio, followed by 2 more worthy champions so I really was spoilt
for choice
BB (7)
- Haukatsalo – Irving’s Copseleaze Here’s Me At Haukantorppa,
2 years brindle, typy bitch, very sound & wokmanlike on the move,
tended to get a bit bored standing.
Attractive head, well coated & bodied, good sort
- Bradshaw’s Newfield Heather Honey, Res in the
good PGB class, good body & outline, moved OK
- Watts’ Birselaw Starlet to Jancairn, litter
sister to BCC.
