Southern Cairn Terrier Club February 5 2005

Looking through my records I see that 40 years ago, when I judged for the Southern Cairn Terrier Club for the first time, my BIS was a Uniquecottage, so perhaps it was fitting that on what will be my last time I should once again put up a Uniquecottage.  The first time the winner was a wheaten dog, U Gold Goblet, winning his first CC, and this time it was a light red brindle bitch, Uniquecottage Glengettie, winning her second CC, so I cannot claim any more similarities, but I certainly hope that Glengettie will soon claim her title as Goblet did.  Something not so good for Judy Parker Tucker & me is that this record tells me that we have been around a long time!

It was a great honour to be invited to judge the Southern’s Ch Show for the third time & I enjoyed the day very much.  Thinking of that marvellous Limit Bitch class will give me constant pleasure.  I wish we could have a few more really good dogs, but for me the bitches are far more important & I don’t think there can be much wrong with a breed which produces the calibre of the top bitches seen at this show.  Also I was impressed with the best dogs headed by the Junior, Cannwood As If By Magic to Starveren.  BP was Cairngold Condoleeza.

There have been a number of changes in the management of the SCTC & I congratulate Pat Carlton Smith and Sue Kinton on their teamwork in running their first show as Secretary and Assistant Secretary so successfully.  It was an honour for me personally to have our retiring Secretary, Mary Towers (now our President) & retiring committee member Ruth Wadman Taylor (thankfully she is still our hon vet), as stewards.  The National Society for Epilepsy at Chalfont St Giles is a handy venue being so close to the M4 and M40 & of a good size for the entry of 144 exhibits with excellent parking facilities.

Minor Puppy Dog (5, 5A)

Puppy Dog (5, 2A)

  1. Thonpson’s Castleline Jackard, attractive wheaten, very good eye, ears & mischievous expression, nice dark points, needs more furnishing to finish the picture but not yet 9 months.  Pleasing neck, shoulders, topline & tailset.
  2. West’s Junetta Victor, well boned grey, good body & rib, I liked his head, eyes & expression, good feet.  Just preferred 1 in shoulder but well let down hocks, nice coat.
  3. Poiles’ Kedvaiy Harlequin

Junior Dog (4, 1A)

  1. Middlehurst’s Cannwood As If By Magic To Starveren, loved this young silver grey & his great quality took him through to the CC.  Well balanced, good length of leg and back, lovely head, eye, ears & expression, good neck, shoulders, topline & tailset, in good coat & condition, moved & showed well.
  2. Peers’ Tweedisle That Special Man, nice typical light red brindle, pleasing head, nice bone, legs & feet, stands well over his legs.
  3. Mears’ Glenmear Billy Flynn.

Novice Dog (1)

  1. Laker’s Wizz Oz Rory, happy wheaten, I liked his natural, pleasing Cairn appearance & attitude, very attentive to his handler, moving out well.  Good ears, alert expression, good bone, nice coat texture.

Undergraduate Dog (3, 1A)

  1. Birch’s Kinkim Kernul, well grown young wheaten, nice neck & shoulders, well set & carried tail, coming into good coat.  Very good mouth, nice dark points, needs a little more face furnishings.
  2. Ough’s Ocedar Zephyr, red, very good strong quarters, good bone, pleasing head & brisket, just a little heavy in front.

Beginners Dog (6, 2A)

  1. Waites’ Seveek Country Rambler to Svendalens, nicely balanced grey, good showman, very good quarters, good coat, pleasing head, eye & ears.  Could be steadier in front movement.
  2. Wizz Oz Rory
  3. Ocedar Zephyr

Graduate Dog (6)

  1. Berrecloth’s Sybster Spring Time, lovely grey, good length of leg with back to balance, good neck, shoulders, topline & tail, good coat & condition, pleasing head, excellent mouth, moved & showed well.  Had the edge on maturity so pressed the CC winner close & took the RCC over the good OD challengers.
  2. Parker Tucker’s Uniquecottage Chipmunk, very nice showy dog who moved soundly& well, pleasing front, legs & feet, good body.
  3. Brown’s Cruzo Gold Charmer

Post Graduate Dog (6, 2A)

  1. Fairweather’s Ock Ross I’m the Boss, very nice Cairn, good head, full of expression, well bodied, nicely balanced.  Coat could be tidied a little but it is a good texture & he had the edge on movement over his rivals.
  2. Thomas & Ward’s Vanajam Three Wishes for Tycadno, nice length of leg, coming into good coat, nice body, rib & condition.  Not just as pleasing in expression.
  3. Seveek Country Rambler to Svendalens

Limit Dog (9, 1A)

  1. Stephinson’s Twohoots Arthur, good red of pleasing size, shape & balance, nice head type, pleasing tail, well bodied.
  2. West’s Junetta Ludycrous, wheaten I also found very typical & pleasing, good head, nice bone, legs & feet, good coat & condition.  Nothing exaggerated about these two really typical Cairns
  3. Mears’ Glenmear Malfoy

Open Dog (6)

Very competitive class.

  1. Hooper’s Ch/Am Ch Birselaw Super Trooper, I admired him as a youngster in the US and he has more than fulfilled his great promise.  All male, mature, good head, very good bone, legs & feet, excellent body & rib, super coat, moved soundly.  Just thought he looked a touch heavy against the young pretenders.
  2. Short’s Glenchess Black Tie, very nice wheaten, good neck, shoulders, topline & tail.  I congratulate this owner on the movement of her Cairns.  Black Tie moved with great drive & reach which put him in second place.
  3. Roberts’ Ch Cannwood Augurey

Veteran 7 – 9 years (2,1A)

  1. Fairweather’s Ock Enchanted Shadow, feminine 8 years wheaten bitch, very nice head, good eye, pleasing coat texture.  Going through a phantom pregnancy but still doing her best for her owner.

Veteran 10  years & over (4, 2A)

  1. Confue’s Ch Anjofra Charlie Tango, lovely light red bitch of 12, still retains all her quality, free movement & joie de vivre, good head.  Best Veteran.
  2. Forder’s Davmar Daispringe at Cairndrove, 12 and a half years wheaten, has lost her figure now and was not moving her best but a real Cairn, pleasing head & expression.

Minor Puppy Bitch (17, 4A)

Good class.

  1. Short’s Glenchess Made to Measure, beautifully made grey, moved & showed so well for such a baby, good neck, shoulders, topline & tailset.  Needs time for her head.
  2. Carter’s Tarcret Bobby Dazzler, very promising, pleasing head & expression, nice body, good forehand.
  3. Cameron’s Stryveling Georgie Girl

Puppy Bitch (11, 5A)

  1. Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Condoleeza, very nice red brindle, good head, eye & ears, pleasing neck, shoulders & front, good outline.  Lost a little sparkle by the end of the show but her head carried her through to Best Puppy.
  2. Thompson’s Castleline Calico, very nice wheaten, needs more face furnishings to help her head but is well made & moves well.  Good coat texture looked the part.
  3. Waites’ Seveek Country Lover at Svendalens

Junior Bitch (10, 2 A)

  1. Brown’s Bencana Royal Sovereign, very nice feminine grey of nice size, well made and moved accordingly, pleasing front, legs & feet.
  2. Hewitt’s Littleacorn Tulin, charming feminine wheaten, lovely head, good dark eye, neat ears, good front, nice quarters.  1 had the showmanship.
  3. Templeton’s Larchlea Remember Remember

Maiden Bitch (6, 2A)

  1. Cameron’s Stryveling Meg Merrilies, pleasing bitch just out of Junior, has a will of her own which I liked but I guess her owner did not!  Good head & expression, well made, good red coat.
  2. Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Miss Demeanour, wheaten, very Cairny but a little short on the leg, good body, nice firm thighs, short hocks.
  3. Lifton’s Anjofra Treacle Tart at Liffycairn

Novice Bitch (5, 2A)

  1. Roberts’ Cannwood Catcha Fallin’ Star, very good bodied red, lovely head, full of expression, good coat, nice rounded bottom
  2. McIntyre’s Beanoak Snug in The Blanket, liked this grey brindle’s length of leg & back but needs more coat & furnishings to look her best.
  3. Ough’s Ocedar Will o The Wisp

Undergraduate Bitch (8,2A)

  1. Ward’s Vanajam Hokcus Pokcus, most pleasing wheaten, lovely head, ears & eyes, nice forehand, good topline & tail.  A bit reluctant to move at times but went well when she wanted to.
  2. Beanoak Snug in The Blanket
  3. Berrecloth’s Sybster Spring into Summer

Beginners Bitch (6)

  1. Waites’ Seveek Country Lover at Svendalens, this promising wheaten was third in Puppy Bitch.  Typical all through with good length of leg & back making for good balance.  I hope she comes on well.
  2. Soper’s Glenmear Martine, very smart grey, not just as well made as 1 but lovely dark face and her eye sparkled, coming into nice coat.
  3. McIntyre’s Beanoak Wise Maid

Graduate Bitch (6, 2A)

  1. Radford’s Skimmerton Silver Sequel, delightful grey, good head & when she used her ears really looked the part.  Good neck & topline, very nice hindquarters.
  2. Weinberger’s Correnie Hi Lily, very attractive wheaten, pleasing head, nice body & rib, good tail.  Two good bitches.
  3. Smith’s Rocasovale All That Jazz

Post Graduate Bitch (8, 2A)

  1. Shopland’s Cherrycrack Chasing Aimee, quality feminine silver, well proportioned & balanced, lovely head, eye & ears, good neck & topline.  Looked well moving & standing.
  2. White’s Kervaig Gemima, very nice dark grey, mischievous expression, nice neck, shoulders & topline, good coat & condition.
  3. Kinton’s Woodthorpe Luck Be A Lady

Limit Bitch (18, 5A)

Several worthy of a CC, had to stand back in this super class.

  1. Parker Tucker’s Uniquecottage Glengettie, beautiful light red brindle, super expression, so well balanced, good neck, shoulders & front, nice topline & tailset & carriage, well made quarters, moved beautifully with reach, drive & freedom.  CC & BIS
  2. Cattos’ Birselaw Special Moment, lovely grey, gorgeous head, good bone, legs & feet, splendid body & rib, good hindquarters & tail.  RCC
  3. Poile’s Kedvaiy Pascali

Open Bitch (4)

  1. Ward’s Vanajam Trick A Treat, very pleasing silver on top form & pressed the Limit bitches all the way.  Lovely head, pleasing neck, shoulders & front, well made hind quarters.
  2. Pollock’s Ch Stanedykes Diva, very good body, rib & coat texture.  Really good bitch but a little heavier than 1 today & not just as feminine.
  3. Short’s Glenchess Golden Wings
