It is a great honour to be asked to judge at Crufts, my thanks to the exhibitors for their wonderful entry. Since I last judged the breed 2 years ago I feel that fronts have improved, much straighter with better action. Hindquarters still need attention but also have improved. Feet too were much tighter in the majority of exhibits. Reach of neck was good in most, but heads disappointed me. There were many who had an 'open' expression, lacking in head furnishing & making the eyes look bold. Ears are in many cases too close together & spoil the balance of the head. Too many have a longer foreface & not enough width of muzzle which causes small & jumbled teeth. Coats were mixed, some would benefit from judicious tidying up. The Standard states the Cairn should 'stand well forward on forepaws', many were stacked like 'rocking horses', spoiling their shape & balance.

 VD (I) I Birch's Ch Kinkirn Prinzludy, 8 yearsgrey, put down in good order. Nice balanced head,correct expression, good stop & eye placement,nice reach of neck, straight front, nice body length& balance, good turn of stifle, nice feet & bone,showed well & moved out so soundly.

PD (9,2a) IShopland's Cherrycrack Mack The Knife, silverwheaten youngster who shows great promise.Doesn't need to grow on anymore. He has a verynice alert expression & his head should developfurther, good reach of neck, nicely balanced body& correct tailset, moved & showed very well; 2Cameron's Stryveling Robb Ruadh, red, lessmature than I but of nice type, pleasing head &expression, nice in outline, good body for depth &ribs, well made hindquarters, moved & showedwell, in good coat & condition; 3 Shannon & Storr'sBrenndarcy Spellbinder, wheaten, another whoneeds time to mature, promising head, nice reachof neck, has a good shape of body, nice tailset & ingood coat, moved out well. Needs to settle in thering to get the best from him.

JD (9,2) I Hootdn,Shorter & Nuttall's Penticharm Prince Charming,wheaten, very pleasing head, well defined stop &correct eye placement. Needed more head furnishing to give a truer expression. Good reach ofneck, nice forechest, straight front & well angulated shoulders, well made body, good spring to ribs& nice length of back, well made quarters & movedwith a steady sound gait, well presented & showing well, still has plenty of time to mature; 2Lindborg & Nordstrand's Rasken Respected BillyJoel, r/br, he has a very nice head & expression,good stop & correct ear placement, excels inreach of neck, similar to I in body shape, has rea-ly well made hindquarters with good angulation,moved off soundly, coat well presented & showswell, close up to I; 3 Braybrook's Cloverbrook PlayThe Game, wheaten, pleasing head & eyes. Ears atouch open. Pleasing outline & balanced body, invery nice coat & condition, showed & moved well.Would prefer him a size larger.

YD (3) I Buttress'Nutshki Boy Wakon, red, nice shape to head butexpression spoilt by ears too erect, has a goodforechest & body, nice in outline & shape, moveswith a good driving action & is sound, in pleasingcoat & condition; 2 Thompson's Castleline Jackard,red, nice in head but still needs to develop more,neck of good length, good in forechest & nicelydeveloped body, correct tailset & useful hindquarters which he can use, shows very well. Lost to Iin front action; 3 Firth & Jones' CairngoldCosmonaut, r/br, quite a pleasing head & expression. For me could have better bone & masculinity. Moves soundly behind. Not in best of coats.

 PGD (8,2) I Poile's Kedvaiy Harlequin, red, smartlooking male, nice for size & balance, I liked hishead & expression, he has a good reach of neck &correct shoulders, he really has good extension onthe move & a good outline when standing, in goodcoat & showing well; 2 Brown's Cruzo GoldCharmer, wheaten, very masculine, another with agood head, has a well defined stop, neat ears &keen expression, balanced in body, good outline,liked his bone, moving well; 3 Birch's KinkimKermul, wheaten, lacking somewhat in maturity,still developing in head, pleasing in neck, shoulders& body outline, in good coat & moves out well.

LD(12,1) I Ehrenberg'sCarradine Master Tigger, r/br,nice head with dark expressive eyes, neat wellplaced ears, good reach of neck, straight front &has maturity in his well made body, correct tailset& carriage, good hindquarters, moved out fluently& with plenty of drive, coat good for texture &presentation; 2 Berrecloth's Sybster Spring Time,grey, bigger type of male. Pleasing in head &expression, good reach of neck, well made body &good' hindquarters, in decent coat, shows wellthough a touch too gay with his tail, moves wellbehind but lost to I in front action; 3 Evans'Birselaw Billy The Kid of Kapplegill, r/br. nice typeof Cairn, has a pleasing head & expression, niceoverall outline & shape, good ribbing, good forbone, condition & coat, moves steadily.

OD (12,2)I like the line-up in this class of quality dogs. IHogarty's Ch/lr Ch Cadagio As Good As It Gets,grey, can't remember seeing this boy before butcertainly will not forget him, Caim of the right size& type, he has a lovely true expression, neat wellset ears, dark eyes, correct length & width of muzzle, good reach of neck, well placed shoulders witha good amount of forechest, balanced body thathas enough depth & spring to his ribs, nice coupling & well made hindquarters, correct amount ofbone, short hocks & tight feet, correct tailset &carriage on the move, true mover going away &coming too, in lovely coat & condition, the pleasure was all mine to award him the CC & BOB; 2Kartson's Ch/Norw/Fin/Dan Ch Kramer NightRider, wheaten, slightly different type, has a nicehead but just lacking furnishing to give him theideal expression, great neck, shoulders & forechest, I liked his body shape & outline, correct intailset, positive mover, in nice coat & condition.RCC; 3 Lindborg & Nordstrand's Nord ChRasken's Reach The Top, grey, another good maleof nice type, lovely for head type, good reach ofneck, well made body & excels in hind angulation,correct tailset, in good coat & condition. Just lostout to I & 2 on movement. GCD (I)Fairweather's Ock Ross I'm The Boss, grey, he hasa pleasing head & expression, well made body,good spring to ribs ft correct length of back,moves out well & presented in good coat, showing well

VB (4) I Short's Ch Glenchess Night Owl. darkbrindle very expressive head, nice size & shapetotally feminine throughout, good neck & maturebody, correct tailset, nicely made quarters whichshe knows how to use, moves with a fluent driving action, in nice coat & condition, enjoying her day.2 Moseley’s Ch Spawyche Elizabethan Cameo, dark brindle belies her 11years, nice femininehead, still retains a true expression, nice conditionthroughout, nice straight front, moves steadily &showed well, credit to her owner; 3 Fairweather'sOck Enchanted Shadow, wheaten, another feminine girl who has a nice head, overall shape & make is good, in nice coat & condition, very active mover and shower..

PB(12,3)1 Shaw’s Honeyhall Head Over Heels, wheaten, ultra feminine throughout, really pleasing head & trueexpression, neat in ear & eye.good reach of neckrunning into well made shoulders, good bodyshape & well made hindquarters, true mover withneat tight feet, nice in outline both standing & onthe move, quite a showgirl, another star in themaking for Honeyball. BP; 2 Matthew's BirselawMoment Of Joy at Sharpamatt, wheaten, similar inmany ways to I, I note they both have the samesire, lovely dark eyes & neat ears, good straightfront & tailset, moves out well. Just needs more headfurnishings to complete a nice bitch 3Robert's Cannwood Camilla, grey, no disgrace tobe in this position, full of quality & type.has nicedark eyes & true expression, good straight front,nice shoulder placement, nicely made body thathas balance, in good coat & quite a mover, shoulddo well.

JB (21,4) I Mears' Glenmear Marcuella,silver, well grown mature girl who takes the eye,has a good general outline, pleases in head with atrue Caim expression that comes with a dark eye,correct earset & the right amount of head furnishings, good in neck. shoulders & body, well prepared nice textured coat, moves well, can be a typical Caim in behaviour which added to me likingher; 2 Hooton's Penticharm Caribbean Queen.wheaten. pretty feminine head & expression, I likedher overall make & shape, so typical of this kennel,as always put down well & moves out truly. Wouldhave liked a touch more head furnishing to complete the picture; 3 Evensen & Dale's KramersWhispering The Name. red, in many ways, similarto 2, one of the few to stand well forward on herfront feet. great reach of neck, pleasing bodyshape in good coat, moves out with ease, made atrio of nice bitches.

YB (15,4) I Bambridge’s Carradine Creme Brulee for Luvemal, r/br, I reallyliked this bitch for her true type & style, pleasedme a lot in head, dark eyes & neat well placed ears,plenty of forechest, good length of body & levelback, in nice coat & condition, moved fluently torher owner; 2 Olsen's Kramer's Vendetta Of Fury,wheaten, good head but would like smaller ears,lovely reach of neck. well made body, excels inhindquarters which she knows how to move. A little slack in front coming towards one. Shows well;3 Firth & Jones' Cairngold Collusion, red, completed another trio of good bitches, I liked her size & type, possesses a well made body, good tailset,has good hind angulation, so was disappointed sheseemed to lack real drive, in good coat-

I Catto's Birselaw It's My Moment, r/br, takes theeye immediately, just really nice type, I thought shehad a very good head with the true Cairn expression, lovely straight front, mature balanced body,correct tailset, in good double coat & condition,lovely true mover & shows non-stop, must have agood future; 2 Hooton's Penticharm Deep Secret,silver/br, so unlucky to meet I, I'm sure thesethree bitches will change places many times in thefuture, such a nice feminine head & neat ears, theright amount of neck to make her true in balance,good in body, straight front & moves in parallel,shows very well & put down as one expects bythis handler; 3 Ward's Vanajam Hokcus Pokcus.wheaten, another lovely bitch who has a pleasinghead & expression. Just appears a touch leggier.Has a good neck & shoulders, well made body &good quarters, good texture to her coat & wellpresented, moves out well & a real expert shower.

LB (13.3) I Shopland's Cherrycrack Chasing Aimee, silver, this bitch just has true breed typeappeal, took my eye straight away, beautiful head,not over done at all. excellent neck & shoulders.straight front, correct shoulders & moved parallel, I thought this bitch was balanced from any angle &liked her attitude; 2 Firth & Jones' Cairngold Cedar, silver, has many similarities to I, lost a littlein outline as her belly line appeared level, goodquarters, well made body & good tailset, in goodcoat & condition. Just needs to steady down onthe move, certainly has drive; 3 Pett's Cannwood Kasta Spell at Doonrae, silver, nice type of bitch,good in head & expression, pleasing neck & shoulders, nice body, no exaggeration anywhere, in nicecoat & presentation, moving well both ways.

OB (13,2) All quality line-up. I  Lindborg &Nordstrand's Sw Ch Rasken's Rich Grey Lark. grey,has a wonderful head with true proportions, hasto be handled to be appreciated, dark eyes, neatwell placed ears, good length of neck & correctlyangulated shoulders; well made body, nicely ribbedwith enough depth, lovely hindquarters which shecan use. At times was a touch lazy but on the move I liked her overall shape & balance. CC; 2 Wards Ch Vanajam Trick-A-Treat. wheaten/br.again another lovely bitch of correct type & size, very feminine head & expression, good straight front, parallel behind & moved as one expected, very soundly, in nice coat & condition. RCC; 3 Templetons Larchlea Remember Remember, dark bnndle,slightly bigger than those above but has a truefeminine outlook, nice expressive head, darkest ofeyes & neat ears, mature body, lovely turn of stifle,shown in good coat & condition, really moving outwell.

GCB (1) I Thompson's Castleline Vanilla Fudge, head OK, rather immature throughout, nothelping herself or her handler when refusing tomove. Stacked has a balanced outline. Needs timeto improve.
