CAIRN TERRIER ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW, CIVIC HALL ,WINSFORD, CHESHIRE
18TH November 2006.
Having checked my records it was in 1989 when I judged the Open Show, it was therefore an honour to be invited to judge the Championship Show, although a year earlier than planned due to the poor health of John Radford, I wish him and his family well for the future. My thanks go to the Officers and Committee, plus a speedy recovery to Catherine Butterfield, for their obvious hard work with regards to the show preparation and to my able ring stewards.
I was pleased with the entry numerically, but found a marked variance in size in both dogs and bitches. There were also a number of stilted rear ends resulting in poor angulation with negative drive and weak hind action. Heads are still a problem, narrow skulls and muzzles, long in foreface resulting in restricted jaw width and small teeth.
On a more positive note, however, there has been a marked improvement with topline and tail sets, reach of neck, and front movement. It was pleasing to see most exhibits in double coats of correct texture and length. All males were entire, and temperaments good. Overall quality still remains with the bitches.
Dog CC & BOB – Middlehurst’s Ch. Cannwood As If By Magic to Starveren Jw. Deserved the top spot today, excellent outline, balanced in all departments, strong head & expression, moved freely both ways, correct double coat.
Bitch CC & RBIS – Templeton’s Ch. Larchlea Remember Remember. Very feminine dark brindle. Super reach of neck and shoulders, good bone, legs and feet and depth of rib, best of mouths, covered the ground well.
RDCC – Hooton, Shorter & Nuttall’s Penticharm Prince Charming, stood out in the challenge, correct head with intense dark mask, sound shoulders, strong quarters, put down to perfection.
RBCC – Osborn’s Tweslam Izzy Wizzy Get Bizzy. Well coated rich red lady, well proportioned, good angulation , excellent legs and feet, moved well. Lovely strong head.
