A VERY, VERY HAPPY SYBIL &  HOBO

Oh, Carol, I am but a fool
Darling, I love you tho' you treat me cruel
You hurt me and you made me cry
But if you leave me I will surely die”

Southern Cairn Terrier Club

Championship Show 4 February 2006

140 dogs making an entry of 159.  Only 35 males were entered and 4 of these were absent.  I was very concerned and saddened at the lack of quality in many.  Few came within the parameters set down in the breed standard size clause.  Heads were not in correct proportion due to overlong muzzles.  Hind quarters lacked the required firm muscle and thin “ferrety” feet are not correct for a Cairn.

My spirits were somewhat raised however with the number and quality of the bitches but where are the males to match them?  After all good dogs as well as good bitches are essential for the future of the breed.

On the brighter side temperaments were good – only 1 exhibit showed some irritation with me.  Mouths were generally good just 2 with slightly untidy dentition.  Eyes were well placed and of the required dark hazel and even in the dark greys – where one sometimes used to see what was called the “boot button” eye – eyes were right size and colour.  Coats were, on the whole, as one would expect in mid-winter, thick undercoats and hard on top, giving the typical rugged – but not ragged – appearance.

Bitch CC & BOB to Smee’s OUDENARDE BELLE AMOUR a dark grey of outstanding merit.  She is all Cairn and exudes joie de vivre.  Ideal size and this was the deciding factor for BOB.  She has a lovely head and mischief expression, well proportioned body, good legs and feet.  Her movement and showmanship were impeccable.  One could not ask for more of her, I wish her well.

Res bitch CC to Hooton’s Penticharm Caribbean Queen a wheaten junior of considerable promise.  Very feminine in head and expression, correct size, lovely forehand and topline.  Good free mover and attentive showmanship.  She should have a bright future.

Dog CC to Berrecloth’s SYBSTER SPRINGTIME grey brindle, up to size but balanced.  Pleasing in head and expression, good reach of neck and well laid shoulder.  In correct double coat.  His free striding movement and firm topline both standing and moving just gave him the edge over

Res CC which went to Middlehurst’s Ch Cannwood As If By Magic To Starveren.  An up to size copper brindle, lovely head, keen expression, good body and coat.  Very alert showman.

Best Puppy to Shopland’s Cherrycrack Mack The Knife – silver wheaten of 11 months.  Half brother to BIS winner.  A bright prospect.  Ideal size and nicely balanced in length to height.  Very active in movement and alert when standing.  Good head properties.  Coat coming in and is of good texture.

MPD (3)

  1. Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Jackpot – well grown 7 months wheaten, nice head, good reach of neck, fair mover, scored in steady showmanship.
  2. Grainger’s Devil in Disguise – 7 months red up to size, very lively, making it difficult to assess movement.
  3. Saich’s Lindcoly I’m Too Sexy

PD (7,2)

  1. Shopland’s Cherrycrack Mack The Knife – BP
  2. Weaver’s Copseleaze Corn Cracker – 10 months wheaten, pleasing in head and expression, well proportioned in body.  Coat needs time but of good texture.
  3. Cameron’s Stryveling Guy Mannering

JD (3)

  1. Hooton, Shorter & Nuttall’s Penticharm Prince Charming, a very self confident wheaten and steady showman.  Attractive head and good forehand, scored in coat.
  2. Watson’s Fieldron William Wallace – wheaten, lovely dark eye, well set ears, good depth of rib.
  3. Hawkins’ Kilnyard Archie Spangles.

MD(1)

  1. Saich’s Lindcoly I’m Too Sexy – full coated red, 3rd in MPD

ND (2)

  1. Peers’ Tweedisle Sweet Talking Guy – light grey, good forehand, scored in movement over
  2. Saich’s Lindcoly Just Bud – VHC in PD – wheaten with good coat texture, head could be stronger

UGD (1) Absent

Special Beginner D (3, 1)

  1. Kilnyard Arche Spangles – 3rd in Junior – good for size, in fair coat, steadier movement gave him the place over
  2. Laker’s Wizoz Rory – an alert wheaten in full coat
  3. Castrey’s Cloverbrook Angus McLee of Cashmor

Graduate (4)

  1. Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Cosmonaut – silver/wheaten who won on his correct size and steady showmanship.  Head in correct proportions and keen expression.
  2. Frost’s Penticharm Black Jack – dark grey rather unruly, lovely head and expression.
  3. Birch’s Kinkim Kernul

PGD (6)

  1. Felters & Rumens’ Landbuck Little Tyke – this dark red brindle scored in correct size, head and movement.  Well balanced in withers height and back length.  A real Cairn in outlook.
  2. Thompson’s Castleline Jackard – a very jaunty showman in a good double wheaten brindle jacket.  Up to size and a bit erratic in hind action.
  3. Smith’s Rocasovale Good Luck Charm

LD (6,1)

  1. CC Berrecloth’s Sybster Springtime.
  2. Fairweather’s Ock Ross I’m The Boss – dark grey in tremendous coat, has a typical head and expression, alright for size.  Movement could be freer, but is a good showman with an alert outlook.
  3. Brown’s Cruzo Charmer

OD (4)

1 & Res CC Middlehurst's Ch Cannwood As If By Magic to Starveren

      2.   Weinberger's Correnie Altissimo - an attractive red brindle of good type.  Correct in head and eye, good front, well presented.

      3.   Karlson's Int/Nor Ch Kramer's Night Rider

Veteran DorB 7 - 9 (5,3)

  1. Fairweather’s Ock Enchanted Shadow, aged 9
  2. Lee’s Bencana Moon Dance, aged 7

Little to choose between these 2 bitches, both wheaten.  Each alert, active and in full coat.  Enchanted scored in head and expression.

Veteran D or B 10+ (4,3)

  1. 1 and Best Veteran Confue’s Anjofra Charlie Tango this wheaten bitch, nearly 13 years, was in excellent condition for body and coat and she moved well and showed with spirit.

MPB (14,5) This was a good class and there was little to choose between the first 3

  1. Ward’s Vanajam Myistic – most attractive 7 months wheaten with a very outgoing personality.  Good overall conformation and balance and just had the edge in movement over
  2. Weinberger’s Correnie Rosie Glow – a 9 months wheaten brindle.  Sweet head and expression, good reach of neck, in good double coat.
  3. Cameron’s Stryveling Isle of Skye

PB (12, 1)  Another good class

  1. Roberts’ Cannwood Camilla, 11 months copper brindle with a well proportioned head, good forehand and firm quarters.  Just had the edge in fullness and texture of coat over
  2. Davey’s Beranburh The Black Pearl – not black but a very dark grey and most attractive in head and expression.  At 11 months I hope she has finished growing but with a new coat she should always rate attention.
  3. Kinton’s Woodthorpe Rosemary in Time

JB (9,1)

  1. and Reserve CC Hooton’s Penticharm Caribbean Queen
  2. Soper’s Glenmear Michelle at Elitecharm, silver brindle, a size bigger than the winner but very feminine.  Good head and reach of neck and a free striding mover.
  3. Mears’ Glenmear Marcuella

MB (2,1)

  1. Burnett’s Kilnyard Cut the Mustard, wheaten who moved well and was an extrovert showgirl.  Well proportioned head.

NB (2)

  1. Peers’ Tweedisle Smitten By Gold – an attractive cream with lovely dark eye and well set ears.  Well presented in good double coat where she scored over
  2. Cruutenden-Woodham’s Ashley Brindle Sukey – a wheaten of delightful temperament but needs attention to coat.

UGB (7,1)

  1. Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Collusion – a clear red in good coat and body.  Very smart in stance and movement, maintained a good topline where she scored over
  2. Confue’s Anjofra Queen of Tarts – a full coated wheaten with nice head and expression, good reach of neck and lay back of shoulder.
  3. Short’s Glenchess Nightingale

Special Beginners B (8,1)

  1. Glenmear Michelle at Elitecharm
  2. Beranburh The Black Pearl
  3. Lifton’s Anjofra Treacle Tart at Liffycairn

GB (5,1)

  1. Weinberger’s Correnie Hi Lily – a silver brindle with lovely head and melting expression.  So very feminine in outlook.  Good level topline which she maintained in stance and movement which gave her the edge over
  2. Keeves’ Seveek River of Dreams, wheaten brindle of heavier build but carrying a very dense coat of good texture
  3. McIntyre’s Beanoak Snug in the Blanket

PGB (15,2)

  1. Weinberger’s Correnie Irresistable – very similar to the winner of the previous class and her classic head proportions gave her the top spot over
  2. Short’s Glenchess Little Black Number – very dark grey in tight double coat.  Nicely put together and has style and good overall body balance
  3. Catto’s Birselaw It’s My Moment

LB (17,4)

  1. Petts’ Cannwood Kasta Spell at Doonrae – litter sister to Res Dog CC winner, grey brindle in super coat.  Perhaps the top size for a bitch but is well balanced and has a feminine head and expression.  Just scored slightly in hind action over
  2. Kinton’s Woodthorpe Luck Be A Lady – also grey brindle and very similar to the winner.  I liked her head, well padded feet and quite a lot in between.  A hard decision between 1 and 2
  3. Hooton’s Penticharm Deep Secret

OB (9,3)

  1. CC and BOB Smee’s Oudenarde Belle Amour
  2. Ward’s Vanajam Piewaket – this grey carries a super double coat, is bigger than the winner and longer cast but us none the less a quality bitch.  She moved well and showed steadily
  3. Short’s Glenchess Golden Wings
