Championship Dog Show

CAIRNS
It was a privilege to be invited to judge Cairns at my first Ch. Show at Paignton. I would like to thank the Exhibitors for bringing so many of their lovely dogs for me to go over. I was dreading the weather on the day as the forecast was for rain during the morning and the wet weather rings would not have allowed either the exhibits or me to give a fair performance. However, it stayed dry for the entire day, which enabled me to gain maximum enjoyment from the occasion. In general the bitches were more pleasing than the dogs. Apart from a few exceptions in other elements, the one aspect that concerned me was movement. The upper limbs, at times, both fore and rear, were too upright with short elements and resulted in short strides lacking drive.
MPD (0).
PD (1). 1. Smee’s, Malmay King of The Road, an 11 mth Wheaten Brindle. Well balanced dog with good length of leg and level topline. Good reach of neck running into the shoulders, correct tail set and good bend of stifle providing drive on the move. Needs a little more coat to excel, but moved and showed well. BP.
JD (4). 1. Stephinson’s, Twohoots Barnabus, a Wheaten with a strong head, good stop and correct ear placement. Excellent outline with level top held on the move. Needs a little more drive on the move to improve his ring presense.
2. Waugh’s, Tribannon Warlord, a Dark Brindle with well balanced outline, up on his toes with good reach of neck and went round the ring with drive. Not quite as good a head as 1, at present, but has time to develop to maturity.
3. Confue’s Anjofra Mucky Boots.
YD (1). Grainger’s, Devil in Disguise, a Red dog with lovely head and expression. Good reach of neck running into well layed back shoulders. Deep chested, but not heavy, level topline. In between coats, an excellent mover with plenty of drive.
PGD (7). 1. Hooton’s, Penticharm Party Knight, Wheaten with Dark Points. Well balanced dog, with a strong well furnished masculine head, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Level topline and strong rear quarters. Moved straight front and rear providing fluid movement.
2. Cameron’s, Stryveling Robb Ruadh. Good strong head with pleasing expression. Good spring of rib and fore-chest, not heavy with a level topline. A touch shorter in leg than 1 and coat on the wane. Moved well.
3. Weinberger’s, Correnie Mister Bo- Jangles.
LD (4, 1 Abs). 1. Shopland’s, Cherrycrack Mack The Knife, a Dark Brindle lean machine. Skull and stop good, but needs a little more furnishings to be at his best. Slightly longer in back than I would prefer, but nevertheless presented a good outline and showed plenty of drive in movement from the side.
2. Shannon and Storr’s, Brenndarcy Spellbinder, a Wheaten with Dark points. A classic masculine head with all the attributes one could wish for. Not so good in profile as 1 and moved less freely.
3. Laker’s, Wizoz Rory.
OD (3). 1. Hooton, Shorter and Nuttall’s, Penticharm Prince Charming. A smart well presented, Wheaten Brindle with Dark Points. Nice strong head with good reach of neck into correct shoulder placement. Excellent balanced outline with straight front and rear quarters. Held himself well both on the move and standing still and moved with plenty of drive. DCC, BOB.
2. Middlehurst’s, Ch. Cannwood As If By Magic to Staveren, another well presented Dark Brindle. A lovely dog to go over, with good head and well proportioned body. Level topline, good tailset and nice harsh coat. Slightly longer than 1 and although moving freely needed a little more enthusiasm. Deserved the RDCC.
3. Ough’s Ocedar Zephyr.
MPB (7, 1Abs). A lovely class of youngsters.
1.Dolan’s, Glenrood Forever Popsy, an 8 mth solid Wheaten with a lovely feminine head. Good reach of neck and level topline, nicely proportioned outline with well angulated rear quarters. Coat just holding in. Moved and showed with enthusiasm.
2. Confue’s, Anjofra Me Me Me. A bitch that lived up to her name, quite a handful. A beautiful 6mth Red with excellent construction all round, presenting an excellent profile both statically and on the move. A super coat developing. Gave her handler a hard time on the move, but shows promise for the future.
3.Laker’s, Anjofra Nobody’s Perfect at Wizoz.
PB (6, 1Abs). 1. Smee’s Malmay Sky’s The Limit, a Grey Brindle with a well proportioned body and level topline. Good length of neck into correct shoulders. Good bend of stifle and correct tail set. A little short of coat at present, but should improve soon. Moved straight, both front and rear, with drive.
2. Dolan’s Forever Topps a solid Wheaten with a well balanced outline. Challenged 1 strongly for placing. Feminine head, good reach of neck and well placed shoulders. Moved well , both fore and aft.
3.Weinberger’s, Correnie Crazy For You.
JB 910, 1 Abs). 1. Parker Tucker’s, Splinterhill’s Zip in Gold for Uniquecottage. A lovely Red Brindle bitch and an excellent mover when settled. She has a well balanced outline and good angulation both front and rear. Classic head, with good stop, and a good reach of neck. Level topline, moved well, but gave her handler a difficult time.
2. Moseley’s, Carradine Sapphire at Spawyche, a lovely correctly proportioned Wheaten bitch with Dark Points. A lovely feminine head with good length of neck and well layed back shoulders, level topline. Moved and showed well.
3. Shaw’s Honeyhall Headstrong.
YB (3, 1 Abs). 1.Hewitt’s, Correnie Jazz Talk at Littleacorn, a well balanced Grey Brindle with pleasing outline and good head. Level topline held on the move, which she did with drive. Showed well.
2. Chamber’s Cairngrove Shadow Dancer. Another girl with a good outline and pleasing head and spring of rib. It was a shame that she was a little short on one leg at the rear, which prevented fluid movement.
PGB (4). 1. Bradshaw’s Newfield Heather Magic. A nice Red Brindle and a happy showgirl. Presented with a feminine head, good reach of neck and correct shoulders. Level topline and good tailset with nice angulation of rear quarters. Fluid mover, would have preferred a fraction more leg.
2. Soper’s Glenmear Michelle at Elitecharm, a Grey Brindle, slightly taller than 1. Good outline and angulation at rear, could do with a little more showmanship.
3. Owen’s, Caldwell Cordelia.
LB (6, 1 Abs). 1 Poile’s, Kedvaiy Can Can, a glorious Red bitch with a very feminine head Good neck and a nice straight forearm. Ideally balanced with level topline and well sprung rib and correct tailset. Good firm rear quarters, moved beautifully with drive. A lovely showgirl well presented. BCC,BOS.
2. Hewitt’s, Littleacorn Keep in Touch, a solid Wheaten and another excellent example of the Breed. A lovely head and expression with a smart profile from the side. Good angulation all round, although she was out moved by 1, but challenged well in the line up to gain the RBCC.
3. Cameron’s, Stryveling Meg Merrilies.
OB (5, 1 Abs). 1. Hooton’s, Penticharm Time to Party. A Wheaten Brindle with dark points and another good example of the breed. A lovely feminine head and expression, good reach of neck and level topline. Well angulated , both front and rear with good bend of stifle. Moved straight, both fore and aft with plenty of drive. In the challenge wilted at the crucial moment.
2. Shaw’s, Honeyhall Head Over Heels. Another Light Red bitch with a lovely feminine head and super outline, both stationary and on the move. Just lost out to 1 today in coat-condition and movement.
3. Short’s, Glenchess Golden Wings.
