WELSH K C CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

CAIRN TERRIERS

Many thanks to everyone who entered and travelled to Builth Wells, with the rising fuel costs etc.

I was delighted with the entry which was third top in group.  I had some really promising youngsters in both sexes, although I happy was with both line-ups.   It is quite evident that there is quite a gulf in quality between the dogs and bitches.

The negatives today were too many dogs were overweight, which affected their movement and again eye colour and shape.  I appreciate the breed standard does not give a shape, but I have always understood that it should be almond shaped (that’s how Peggy Wilson explained it to me) and not round and beady.  Temperaments were super and presentation first class.

Puppy ( 5 – 1ABS)

1st        King & Leighton’s Carradine May Be The Moon At Harkinleigh.

Nice head and expression.  Level topline good tailset shown in good coat.  Moved fairly well on a loose lead.  Needs to loose a bite of weight best balanced in this class.

2nd       Felters & Rumens’ Landbuck Colour Code

Very much a baby.  Wheaten good head and expression.  Nice neck and shoulders.  Topline and tailset moves well once he settles.  Hope he grows on.

3rd        Thomas’ Tycando Starman

Junior Dog ( 5 – 2Abs)

1St       Pollocks’ Larchlea Licence To Thrill at Stanedykes

This young R/B certainly ticked all the boxes for me.  I found his head and expression breath taking.  At 15months he is obviously maturing, but he is so well constructed when he moves it is effortless.  Good depth and spring of rib.  Topline level with tail on top.  Super-coat and was shown to perfection.  He screams breed type and looks every inch the standard.  Delighted to award him the  CC AND BOB.   I hear he was shortlisted in the group on this performance; it is easy to see how.

2nd    Mosley & Innett’s Spawyche Elizabethan Onyx

Another smashing youngster.  So well put together, lovely head and expression.  Super mouth, excellent neck and shoulders.  Good legs and feet.  He was shown in super-coat and his presentation was spot on.  He moved around the ring with drive, I felt compelled to award him the RCC.  Must have a bright future

3rd        Barney’s Alfie Lunar Hopper

NOVICE DOG  ( 3 – 1 Abs)

1st            Peers’  Tweedside Guy Mannering

Brindle nice type, lovely head.  Eye and ear placements level topline and good tail set well presented.  I would like a bit more width across the chest and more drive from behind

2nd   Barney’s  Alfie  Lunar Hopper

Very much a baby attending his first show. Typy head with good mouth.  He has a wicked personality and obviously gives his owner a hard time, but with training and patience could be a fun dog to show.

POST – GRAD DOG ( 5 – 1 Abs)

1st        Waugh’s Tribannon Warlord

Lots to like here, brindle super head and expression, good neck and shoulders.   Good depth and spring of rib, level topline with tailset.  Moved with drive to be critical, I would like him a shade longer in back for a more balanced picture.  Nice type

2nd       Rheads’  Copseleaze Chesterwood Boy

I liked this R/B, again he has a nice head and expression.  He is very well put together, was shown in good coat and very well handled he was a bit heavy and this affected his movement pity.

3rd       Dolan & Inetts’ Glenrood Iceman

LIMIT DOG ( 6 – 1Abs)

1st Ward’s Vanajam Pop Idol

I was surprised to see this youngster in this class not because he is not quality but he looks very much a baby.  Wheaten, Rangy, needs to fill out, I would like more width across the chest.  He has a lovely masculine head and expression.  Super topline and tailset.  He has a quality coat and presentation was A1.  Moves around the ring with drive and confidence with maturity should progress.

2nd Grainers’ Devil and Disguise

Red masculine head and expression, good mouth, level topline, good tailset.  Good depth of spring of rib and moved well.  Needs a new jacket and could loose a pound or two. Good honest dog.

3rd Sopers’ Uniquecottage Ring Plover

OPEN DOG (3)

1ST       Thomas’s Ch. Raskens Romping Playboy

I have long admired this brindle. He has a super head and expression. Level topline and good tailset.  He is always well presented and has quality coat.  He drives from the rear and covers the ground well. Today he lacked sparkle, never the less he’s out of the top drawer and will always demand a second look.

2nd       Hooton &  Shorters’ Penticharm Prince Charming

Attractive headed brindle that is well put together.  Very well presented he has a good depth and spring of rib, good topline and tailset.  I wish he would put more into his showing.

3rd       Peers’ .Tweediside Piper Boy

MINOR PUPPY BITCH  ( 5 – 1 Abs) Nice Class

1st        Roberts’ Cannwood Danish Affair

Wheaten -  lovely head, eye and good mouth.  Super neck and clean shoulder balanced outline moves very well for one so young.  Presented in good coat of correct texture.  BEST PUPPY  with a bit to spare.

2nd   Wards Vanajam Disco Diva

First time out for this baby, but she did very well.  Sweet head and expression nice shape moved very well and showed all out with maturity could become a real prospect.

3rd      Confue’s Anjofra  Welcome and to La La Land

Lovely head and expression, obviously likes her food and in need of a new jacket.  She covers the ground well and is of a nice type.

JUNIOR BITCH – ( 4)

1st           Dolan’s  Glenrood Mystic Topaz

Wheaten /Brindle nice type of cairn although short of coat.  She was hiding nothing.  Moves well for and aft.  Attractive head and expression.  Level topline, tail on top. showed all out.

2nd      Chambers & Extons Cairngrove Clever Clog

Brindle lovely head and expression, carrying too much weight which effected her front movement, good depth and spring of ribs, strong quarters.  Good coat well presented.

3rd        Dolan’s  Glenrood Forever Popsy

POST- GRAD BITCH ( 6)

1st       Weinberger’s  Correnie Crazy For You

Beautiful head with varmity expression balanced throughout.  Good neck and shoulders, straight front, level topline good depth and spring of rib.  Shown in super coat and condition very free in movement on her toes and showed all out.  I thought in the challenge for B.O.B. they made a good looking pair very well deserved CC

2nd       Munday’s Birselaw Firebird at Stradivarius

R/B lovely head and expression shown in good coat and well presented.  Not much wrong with this young lady just has to mature, moves well on a loose lead.  Promising. Should start to pick up top awards soon.

3rd        Moseley’s Carradine Sapphire at Spawyche

LIMIT BITCH ( 9- 1 Abs)

1st     Thompson’s Castleline Tiger Lily

A lovely type of cairn most of my comments on crazy for you apply here.  There was little to separate these quality bitches.  A little more coat would complete the picture but delighted to award her the RCC   and hope she progressed to her title which she thoroughly deserves.

2nd       Waugh’s Razzle Dazzle Glory at Tribannon

Another quality cairn shown in full coat.  Lovely head and expression very well balanced, moves well lots to like here.

3rd       Bambridge’s Carradine Creme Brulee for Luvemal

OPEN BITCH  ( 5 – 2 Abs)

1st     Hewitt’s Correnie Jazz Talk at Littleacorn

Very well put together like her head, type shape and movement.  Beautifully presented moves and shows very well.  Not much wrong here.

2nd      Lindbore & Norstrand’s  Su (u) Ch Rasken’s Rich Grey Lark.

Brindle slightly bigger all round than Jazztalk.  Lots to like and presented to perfection.  Again she could lose some weight to advantage.  Handled very well.

3rd        Osborne’s Tweslam Izzy Wizzy get Bizzy
