Paignton Championship Show 3rd

Cairn Terriers
Since I
last judged the breed in 2007 I thought then heads were improving, I was very
disappointed generally in the heads I saw today in many dogs. They lack the
correct proportions, many did not have a definite stop & muzzles in many
were snipey. General type was mixed, the quality in bitches was way in front of
the dogs! The breed need more quality dogs, they are the studs of the future!!
Movement still needs to improve, soundness is not uniform throughout the breed.
MPD. (1)
1.
Weinberger’s Correnie Tornado. A well grown wheaten brindle
youngster, has plenty of confidence. Pleasing head with good ear placement
& dark eyes, good length of neck. Level topline & correct tail set,
good depth of ribs. Good bend of stifle, moved better behind than in front.
Found him to be up on the leg and therefore more squarish in shape than oblong.

1.
Weinberger’s Larchlea Come Fly With Me to Correnie. Red brindle youngster, Has
a good type of head with a more defined stop than many here today. Well filled
muzzle, dark well set eyes, neat ears with correct placement, good expression.
Good neck, shoulders and level topline. Good in front and definitely sound
behind. Has a quality coat, and showed well. A little up on the leg but better
balanced than his kennel mate.
2. Goud’s
Vale of Atholl’s Shaggy Grey Buck. Wheaten, smaller in type than 1. Has a very
pleasing head & expression, good dark eyes. Nice reach of neck, a little
upright in shoulder hence his untidy front action. Topline needs to level off,
good body for spring and depth of ribs, but could carry a little more body.
Nicely made hindquarters and correct tail set. Shortish coat but of good
texture, happy boy.
3.
Tutching’s Tribannon Gypsy King
YD. (3)
1. Parker-Tucker’s
Uniquecottage Raleigh. Red brindle, appealed in outline & balance. Would
prefer a more defined stop & darker eye. Has a good neck, correct angulated
shoulders & straight front. Bodywise has the desired balance, well sprung
ribs & correct length of loin. Well made hindquarters, correct tail set. In
nice coat & condition, moved & showed well.
2. Downie
& Tate’s Jaeva Face The Music. Grey brindle with a really nice masculine
head & expression. Straight front but slack in front action. Has a really
good body, correct hindquarters, tail carriage could be improved. Coat in need
of tidying up, texture ok.
3. Ough’s
Ocedar Benji
PGD. (1)
1. Vale of
Atholl’s At Long Last. Masculine dog with the type of head I was expecting to
see, defined stop, nice well placed dark eyes & correct expression. Good
neck & shoulders, excellent body for ribbing & balance. Strong well
made hindquarters which he knows how to use, plenty of muscling. Tail carriage
at times a little ‘gay’, coat of excellent quality & put down very well.
Showed all out, moves fluently keeping a true outline & deserved the CC
today.
LD. (1)
1. Peer’s
Tweedisle Guy Mannering. Grey, more refined than I would like for a male. In
short coat which spoilt the overall balance. Has nice dark eyes & correct
ear placement, good reach of neck. Straight front, good depth of ribs &
liked his bend of stifle. Tailset correct & carries it well. Quite a sound
mover, would prefer him to have more bone & substance.
OD. (2) (1)
1.
Hogarty’s Ir Ch Cadagio The Unexpected. Standing looks really good, has a
lovely true Cairn head, well placed ears & a pleasing width of muzzle. Good
neck, a little upright in shoulder & with a true topline & a well
balanced shape. Nicely sprung ribs, carrying the right amount of condition,
good bend of stifle & correct tail set. In excellent coat, nicely prepared.
Lost out on movement which I found to be erratic. RCC.
MPB. (4)
1. Osborn’s
Tweslam Winter Magic. Very promising 6 month old red, nicely balanced for her
age & showed with confidence. Head wise has the correct shape of head that
will continue to improve. Nice size for a bitch of this age, good reach of
neck, straight front with correct shoulder placement. I thought she had a good
body & was well balanced. Well made hindquarters, correct tail set, in good
coat. Moved soundly both ways. Best Puppy.
2. Oldale’s
Tweslam Dawn Chorus at Cranae. Litter sister to 1. A little bigger all over,
not quite so balanced as 1. Similar in many ways head wise & front
construction. Outline needs to improve, she was carrying a good amount of body.
Once she settled then moved well both ways.
3.
McIntyre’s Glenchess Chloe
PB. (9) (3)
1. Shaw’s
Honeyhall Halliwell. Very femine head & expression as one expects from this
kennel, good eye colour & correctly placed ears. Good reach of neck &
correct shoulders, nice straight front. Balanced & well made body, correct
hindquarters. Not in the best of coats, needed more hair on the tail. Appeared
a little unsettled at first, but moved & showed well enough to win this
class.
2.
Weinberger’s Correnie Cherie Amour. Silver with another nice head, defined stop
& correct expression. Nice reach of neck, good body, lovely turn of stifle.
Correct tail set, nice out line. Needs more coat to perfect a balanced picture.
Moved well both ways, showing well.
3. Goud’s
Vale of Atholl’s Bonnie Halloway
JB. (6)
First
Quality class of the day!
1.
Hogarty’s Cadagio Make It Happen. Outstanding red youngster, who has a good
head & expression, well placed ears & nicely filled fore-face. Lovely
balanced outline, nice quality body, good coupling. A well made back-end, with
short hocks, decent bone & correct tailset. In nice coat put down in good
order. Moved soundly and a steady show girl, should have a bright future.
2. Smee’s A
High Class Baby at Malmay. Similar to 1, nice pleasing head & expression,
good reach of neck. Nicely balanced body, good hindquarters which she used
well. In pleasing coat & well presented. Just not so positive as 1 in front
action.
3. Brown’s
Bencana Sunday Best
YB. (4)
1. Dolan’s
Glenrood Warrior Princess. Silver grey with a pleasing head, lovely dark eye
giving the correct expression. Nice length of neck, good shoulder placement and
straight front. She has a good body for length of back & coupling, just appears
a touch tall as lacking belly coat. Good hind-quarters which are well muscled
and she drives off well. Correct tail set & a good texture to her coat,
showed well.
2.
Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Sea Breeze. Red brindle who also has a nice
feminine head & expression. I really liked her outline & well balanced
shape. Another with a strong back-end who showed off her positive movement. In
nice coat & condition.
3. Byrne’s
Litte Miss Tonka
PGB. (7)
(2)
1. Poile’s
Kedvaiy Liza With A Z. Lovely red girl, nice for size & overall balance.
She has a very good head, correct in all points, dark expressive eyes with
nicely filled foreface. Good reach of neck, correct shoulder angulation &
straight front. Well made body, level topline & correct length for true balance.
Good turn of stifle, short neat hocks & correct tail set. In a a good coat
of the correct texture, nothing over done in this girl. She was so sound both
ways & showed with plenty of animation.
2. Osborn’s
Tweslam Serendipity. Slightly smaller silver wheaten. Another who had the type
of head I was wanting to see, lots of true expression. Nicely made well
balanced body, well made back-end. Tail set correct, in nice coat &
condition. Just lost out to 1 on front action.
3. Dodd’s
Tribannon Fair Lady
LB. ( 6)
(1)
1. Clarke’s
Conundrum Sweeter For Me For Lentricia. Silver grey bitch who had one of the
best heads today, defined stop, dark expressive eyes & good fore-face but
remaining totally feminine. Very balanced outline, good in neck &
shoulders, excellent straight front. Ideal body shape, good spring & depth
of ribs. Well made hindquarters, good turn of stifle short in hock & good
feet. Correct tail set, level topline, in excellent coat & condition. Free
fluent movement & showed all out. CC & BOB
2. Smee’s
Malmay Sky’s The Limit. Grey girl, not quite so pleasing in head as 1, would
like a slightly smaller eye. She has a good neck, shoulders & front. Well
made mature body, balanced outline. Well
made hindquarters which she knows how to use. In good coat &
condition.
3. Dolan’s
Glenrood Forever Topps
OB. (4) (2)
1. Shaw’s
Ch Honeyhall Hide’N Seek. Red, feminine & balanced girl, nice head &
expression, neat well placed ears & dark eye. Good length of neck, correct
in shoulder & straight front. Good body proportions, nice spring of rib
& correct loin. Good hindquarters with a good turn of stifle, plenty of
muscling. Tail set & carriage correct, in good coat & condition. Moved
rather close behind which was a deciding factor for top honours. RCC.
2. Thompson’s
Ch Castleline Bonnie. Disappointed me in head, though her ears & eyes are
well placed. Good neck & outline. Pleasing front & body, strong
back-end. She has a nicely balanced body, not in the best of coats today. Moved
quite well.
