Photographs By Alan Firth
"Alan does his best to get a good photograph
of Cairns after they have been placed by the judge, but this seems to
be getting increasingly difficult for him. He appeals to exhbibitors to
try to show exhibits so that his job is made easier. Although Alan
realises that exhibitors have to show their Cairn so that the judge can do a
critique, he asks that exhibitors also bear in mind that he is trying to
get a photograph as well."
DRIFFIELD AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW 1st
October 2011 CAIRN TERRIERS My thanks to exhibitors for the numerically excellent
entry many having travelled long distances. I made allowances for the
exceptionally hot weather, poor state of the ring and also transient coats,
but I find it difficult to accept exhibits presented in a smelly ungroomed
condition, surely it behoves us all to present dogs in the best possible
state? My BOB Ch Canwood Remember Holly JW, a great ambassador
for the breed, is a real credit to her breeder, owner & handler. In
general I was pleased with most of my class winners and the majority of the
exhibits handled the heat well. However I found some causes for concern, 3
unexceptable (for me) mouths, several short necks and heavy shoulders which
resulted in poor front movement and also some exhibits overweight. I feel we
are not presently seeing the
quality we have come to expect from some breeders although we all know how
difficult consistency in breeding is. MPD 4 (2) 1 Felters & Rumens’ LANDBUCK PARA HANDY Well grown &
mature for 7 months, attractive head & expression, correct mouth with
large teeth. Balanced throughout & moved with drive. Shown in excellent
coat, hopefully he won’t grow on too much – one to watch 2 Petts
& Shannon’s GEORDIE BOY Lighter
frame than 1 & quite immature, needs to tighten in front and doesn’t
always keep his topline on the move. However
time is on his side. PD 1 1 Roberts’ CANWOOD
CUT ABOVE 10 months, well put together, good size but rangy at the moment
he gives the impression of better things to come with maturity, found the
ground difficult when moving but hind movement impressed. Coat past its best. JD 4(1) 1 Lattimer’s BIRSELAW SIR BOBBY Typical of this breeding, masculine head with
deep stop and correct mouth/bite. Excellent reach of neck into correct
shoulders & front, length of back in proportion giving the overall
balance I like to find. Shown in very heavy coat but this not detract from
his overall quality. Very workman like, gave the impression of being able to
do a day’s work. 2
Lamb
& Saltmarsh’s RENSHAW THERE AND
BACK AGAIN Typical head & expression,
correct mouth, not as balanced overall as 1 but he moves with drive and shows
well. Would like more of him. 3
Carter’s
CARRADINE ALFIE THE GREAT AT CARERNWIL YD 1 1 Templeton’s LARCHLEA I WANT TO BREAK FREE
Lovely head with really wicked expression and good dark eye. Good reach
of neck into well laid shoulders and correct front. He has right amount of
bone and is well muscled but would like just a little more length of back to
complete a balanced picture. Coat not at its best. PGD 3
1 Lamb
& Saltmarsh’s BIRSELAW FABLE Up
to size with masculine expression, good mouth/bite, moves well and presented in excellent order.
Unfortunately sometimes proud of his tail. 2
Inett & Heidecker’s HYDECASTLE REG THE ROCKET I was very disappointed with this dog,
he is very stocky & a bit short in leg for me. Presented immaculately as
usual from this handler and showed well. 3
Brennan’s MILINDACK
WHAT NEWS WATSON LD 7 (1) 1 Percy’s WINETTA SIR PERCY Well balanced dog
but would like his head to be a bit more masculine, correct mouth/bite, well
set on neck into correctly laid
shoulders & best of fronts. Level/length of back gave a balanced picture
& he moved with drive. Presented in top order. 2
Marshall’s STRATHGARTEN CRACKERJACK Heavier
type of dog but good sort who
generally conforms well to the standard, he could do with some dental
attention. Presented in good
order but a little wilful at times. 3 Confue’s
ANJOFRA I’M NOT GOING JW OD6 (1) 1 Smith’s CH ROCASOVALE RAZZLE DAZZLE A worthy Ch. Well up to size with excellent
bone & muscle, attractive
masculine head with deep stop and keen expression. His length of neck, leg
and back are in correct proportion to his size and give him the right
balance. Presented in top order & today he conformed with his handler
when moving. However he is verging on being a little portly. CC 2
Shannon & Storr’s BRENNDARCY TROUBLE AT MILL Good head/teeth/bite. Well set on neck into clean shoulders
but a bit longer cast than 1. Well let down behind, moved with drive,
presented in good order but just not quite the charisma of 1 today. RCC 3 Felters
& Rumens’ CH LANDBUCK TILLISCH GCD 2 1 Morley’s KEDVAIY LOCAMOTION Strong masculine
dog of good proportions but getting a bit heavy on the shoulders now. Always presented with perfection today he
was at one with his handler. 2
Parkin’s ROACHDEE MYSTERY OF THE FULL MOON
Good expression but quite heavy throughout not helped by being a bit
overweight. Not moving as soundly today as he should. MPD 3 1 Shaw’s HONEYHALL HEARSAY As usual from this
kennel a very attractive puppy, lovely head, good big teeth. Everything in
proportion giving the required balance. Raw as yet but very eager to please .
BP 2
Coffell’s
OMETTO MISS MARPLE Very different
type to 1 but a good sort, higher on
the leg, head needs to broaden, excellent coat and very steady mover. 3
King,
Leighton, Inett & Harrisons’ CARRADINE
I AM FLORENCE WITH HARKINLEIGH PB 3 1 Shannon & Storr’s BRENNDARCY SNEDRONNIGEN Expressive feminine head with
good dark eye, she can afford to grow on although she is balanced for her
size at the moment. Coat not at its best, excellent showgirl. 2
Roberts’ CANWOOD
CONTINUE THE DREAM Quite rangy at the moment but reasonable bone &
size, coat past its best. Like her brother I think there is more to come with
maturity. 3
Moseley’s SPAWYCHE
ELIZABETHAN DREAM JB 6 1 Waugh & Carlton-Smith’s TRIBANNON GUARDIAN ANGEL This is a
quality bitch with the best of feminine heads, good strong jaw and large
teeth. Her neck flows into an excellent front and shoulders, level topline
and well set on tail. She has a good length of leg and moves with purpose
& drive. With better presentation & handling she would trouble the
best. 2
Carter & Shannon’s BRENNDARCY DIZZIE LIZZIE Again an attractive feminine bitch with good head/mouth,
conforms well to the standard she moved & showed well. 3
Smith’s GLENMEAR
SPROXTON LASS YB 7(1) 1 Shaw’s HONEYHALL HIGH ‘N’ DRY Another very
attractive bitch from this kennel, really beautiful head with dark points,
her construction is balanced and shows in her excellent movement. Presented
in the best of coats, never stopped showing despite the heat, just a bit
immature for top honours yet. 2
Firth’s CAIRNGOLD
KIA Well made bitch with strong but feminine head, good bone and muscled
up giving the impression being able to do a day’s work if asked. Moved with
drive although flagged a bit in the heat. 3
Inett, Harrison & Clayton’s CARRADINE TIME TO SHINE JW PGB 9(2) 1 Percy’s WINETTA MISS INDEPENDENT Lovely headed feminine bitch with wicked
expression, dark eyes, strong jaw and big teeth. Good reach of neck into
shoulder lay and straight front. Her length of back and correct tailset
enhance the overall balance, she moved with drive and was presented in top
order. 2
Inett’s CARRADINE
COME ON IRENE JW Another good sort I would like a bit more of her, she
moved well enough, very well presented but flagged a little in the heat. 3
Smith’s ANJOFRA PLUM
TART AT ROCASOVALE LB 6 1 Dolan’s GLENROOD
MASQERADE Caught my eye as she entered the ring and I was not
disappointed, she has the most feminine head with a lovely dark eye, best of mouths and bite. The size I like to find,
good bone, well muscled, but not overdone. She is completely balanced and
moves steadily covering the ground well. Presented in excellent coat and
showed all out. RCC 2
Waites’ SVENDALENS
CRAZY DIAMOND Nicely made bitch but a bit heavier throughout and not quite such a good front
as 1. Shown in good coat and moved well. 3
Melia’s ROACHDEE
TREACLE BON BON OB 5(2) 1 Harding’s’ CH. CANNWOOD REMEMBER HOLLY JW Epitimises
all that a Cairn bitch should be. Her confirmation is absolutely correct,
presented in superb condition and coat, she is well muscled and moves with
such drive & verve. Her attention is entirely on her handler and she
never waivers from the job in hand. Even in the heat of the Group ring she
continued to give her all. A real pleasure to award her the CC & BOB 2
King,
Leighton, Inett & Harrison’s CURTISEY
FOREIGN ACCOUNT WITH CARRADINE A little matronly compared to 1 but an
attractive bitch, would like more of her. Presented in good order but not
handling the conditions well today. 3
Melia’s
ROACHDEE TREACLE BONBON GCB 2 1 Byrne’s LITTLE MISS TONKA Very smart bitch
with good head, expression, and dark eye. Excellent tidy coat, moved and
showed well. 2
Parkin’s ROACHDEE
TOFFEE CRISP Rather long cast which spoilt her balance & outline, head
OK but front could be better as could her movement. Frances Goldfinch Judge |
