CAIRN JUDGE SCOTTISH
BREEDS 11
CAIRN TERRIER
I was rather disappointed in the
overall quality of the breed since my last judging appointment. Many dogs were
dirty from the colour of my hands at various times through the judging. The
quality in the lower classes was very hit and miss, which doesn't bode well for
the future. Heads are generally poor, many were too long in foreface, snipey
and lacked the required strength of muzzle with small teeth. I doubt they could
hold their own against vermin. Many lacked the well sprung ribs that are
required for lung room and so many lacked the strong muscled rears that are
needed for a good driving action. Breeders need to re-assess their breeding
ideas and breed to the standard, also to keep only the best, otherwise the
Cairn will be changed for the worse.
VD(1)
1 Catto's Ch/Nor/Fin/Dan/Swe Ch
Birselaw Billy Fury (Re-Imp). It was a pleasure to judge this elderly
gentleman, grey brindle, lovely head with a dark eye and keen expression, well
made straight front, nicely made body with a level topline, well balanced throughout,
correct tailset, in good coat and condition, moved and showed well.
MPD(3)
1 Lattimer's Birselaw Sir Bobby.
Wheaten brindle, well furnished head but foreface could be shorter, good
balance overall, just needs to tighten in front action, pleasing body shape and
in good coat, tailset correct and moved well behind, showing well.
2 Lamb &Saltmarsh's Renshaw
There And Back Again. Brindle, just 6 months old, dark eye and good expression,
nice body and coat, good depth and spring of rib, moved well both ways, happy
shower, just needs time.
3 Carter's Carradine Alfie The
Great At Carernwil.
PD(4)
1 Hogarty's Cadagio More Than A
Feeling. Wheaten, well grown youngster with a pleasing head and expression,
dark eye and correct ear set, nice reach of neck, well placed shoulders and
straight front, has good bone, deep ribs, enough spring of rib for age, nice
outline, correct tailset, moved well with drive, showing well. BP.
2 Lattimer's Birselaw Sir Bobby.
3 Fortune's Eglish Willies Wee
Man.
JD(1)
1 Templeton's Larchlea I Want To
Break Free. Dark brindle, nice head and keen expression, good in neck and
shoulder, nice deep ribs, but would like more spring, could carry more weight,
good turn of stifle and driving action, in short coat and shows all out.
PGD(2)
1 Buchan Buchan's Auchinkyle
Superman Stan At Drayem. Wheaten brindle, nice head and expression, good neck
and shoulders, in good body and pleasing balance, has a poor soft coat, sound
mover and shows well.
2 Lamb &Saltmarsh's Birselaw
Fable. Silver Brindle, rather on the big size, strong through neck and
shoulders, harsh coat and needs some tidying up, driving action, outline spoilt
by his gay tail.
LD(3)
1 King &Leighton's Carradine
Night Listener At Harkinleigh. Grey brindle, he has a pleasing head and expression,
just needs his head furnishings tidied up, good forechest and straight front,
good body, deep ribs and well sprung, nice turn of stifle, well muscled
backend, correct tailset, an active and sound mover, shows well. RCC.
2 Shopland's Cherrycrack
Blackadder. Dark brindle. I like this dog but today was in a short coat which
spoilt his balance making him too square, he has a good head and expression,
nice reach of neck and clean shoulders, good turn of stifle, correct tailset, a
very sound mover and shows well.
3 Percy's Winetta Sir Percy.
OD(2)
1 Smith's Ch Rocasovale Razzle
Dazzle. Silver boy who stands out, not always that co-operative with his
handler, masculine head and expression, good reach of neck, clean, well made
shoulders with a straight front, mature body, well balanced throughout,
pleasing turn of stifle, has good bone and strength, correct tailset, in good
coat and condition, moves well and shows when he decides to. CC and BOB.
2 Hogarty's Ir Ch Cadagio No
Doubt About It. Dark brindle from a smaller mould, what a lovely head for
balance and expression, needs to steady a little in front, moves nice and sound
behind, good body and tailset, tends to appear a touch low to ground, in good
coat and condition, showed all out.
MPB(1)
1 Buchan Buchan's Carradine
Little Cracker At Drayem. Grey brindle baby, would prefer a shorter foreface,
needs to settle in topline, nice body and coat, good tailset, happy shower,
needs time.
PB(2, 1)
1 Clarke's Cloverbrook Precious
Gift At Lentrica. Grey brindle, feminine expression, neat ears, not the best of
fronts, good neck, not in the best of coats, showing well, not happy with her
rear action, needs lots of time.
JB(5, 1)
1 Shaw's Honeyhall Hipsway. Light
red, pretty head and feminine expression, pleasing in neck and shoulders,
nicely balanced body and well proportioned, tailset correct, was rather scatty
on the move, needs to settle so her movement can be seen, in good coat and
condition.
2 Berrecloth's Sybster Sunday
Best. Pretty head and keen expression, not so balanced as first, being taller
on the leg which gives her a squarish shape, good reach of neck, clean
shoulders, carrying a nice coat and moving well both ways, shows well.
3 Templeton's Larchlea Its Show
Time.
NB(1)
1 Miller's Cornton Badger's Hope.
Quite a pleasing head and expression, nice dark eye, straight front, well made
body and good balance, correct tailset, moving well both ways, needs better
presentation to make the most of her attributes.
PGB(6, 2)
1 Osborn's Tweslam Winter Magic.
Red brindle, ideal size and very feminine, lovely defined head, good neck and
shoulders, nicely made body, correct tailset, well balanced and so sound,
showed well.
2 Berrecloth's Sybster Sonja.
Silver wheaten, not the best of toplines, pretty head and expression, failed in
front action to first, well balanced body, in good condition, showed well.
3 Byrne's Little Miss Tonka.
LB(4)
1 Inett's Carradine Come On
Irene. Red brindle, ideal size and shape, very feminine throughout, pleasing
head and expression, nicely balanced body, good depth and correct spring of
rib, pleasing coat of the correct texture, one of the soundest movers here
today, showing all out for her handler, well deserved the RCC.
2 Thomas' Tycadno Starlet.
Wheaten brindle, she has one of the prettiest heads and expressions, lost her
shape on the move, not in the best of coats, carries a good body, well balanced
shape, movement both ways was sound and not showing as I know she can.
3 Osborn's Tweslam Maid By Magic
JW.
OB(5)
1 Hogarty's Ir Ch Cadagio Secret
Liaison. Grey brindle, such a pleasing head of good proportions, correct stop
and correct ear placement, well made body and nicely balanced shape, good
outline on the move with correct tailset, straight front, good turn of stifle
and short hocks, in very nice coat and condition, moved well behind, showed all
out to win the CC.
2 Smook-Van Koolbergen's Ned/Lux
Ch Birselaw Emma. Dark brindle with a pleasing head and expression. I found her
a rather heavier type and very square in outline, carries a good mature body,
tailset good, in good coat and a sound mover, showed very well.
3 Wren's Ch Larchlea Spirit In
The Sky.
