CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW

Sunday 17th June 2012

Judge Mrs Chris. Roberts

Wellingtons were the order of the day, so a big “thank you” to the exhibitors for turning out under such atrocious conditions, and I hear that a couple of exhibitors literally risked life and limb in their efforts to get to the show!!  The extreme weather conditions made it very difficult for all concerned and the Officers and Committee must be commended for enduring the two days of relentless rain.

Thanks also go to my two stewards Maureen and Margaret.

Judging started outside, but as soon as the dog judging was completed the rain came, so the remaining judging was carried out in the wet weather ring, which was barely adequate and somewhat water logged!! However we managed.

The quality of the bitch classes as usual out-weighed the quality of the dog classes. I found several dogs with dirty teeth and some surprisingly with not such good mouths.

I was particularly looking for decent movement today i.e. parallel front and rear movement with the front legs reaching forward and being propelled by a well muscled strong rear, but it was almost like spotting a Dodo!!--

On a more positive note my top winners were of the highest quality and their placings were well deserved.

Just before the bitch judging we observed a minutes silence as I was informed that Doreen Shorter had passed away earlier that morning.

Puppy Dog 4 (1 absent)

1st       Currie’s Stirlingview Stunning. 8 month old Red brindle. Lovely mischievous expression, good mouth with large teeth. Well made youngster, who won this class from strong competition.  Well made front, moved well for such a youngster.  Top line and tail set spot on. He was a bit of a handful initially, but once settled  he didn’t put a foot wrong.

2nd   Bradshaw & Shannon’s Newfield Harvest Moon Over Brenndarcy. 9 month old wheaten brindle, another well made youngster, with a good masculine head, correct mouth, good top line and tail set and the best of showmen, however I felt that his front movement was not as positive as 1 today. Both are exciting prospects.

3rd    Burgin’s Noncom Hugo First

Junior Dog 3 (1 absent)

1st    Percy’s Winetta Stand and Deliver.  17 month old red brindle.  Like his size and balance. Best of heads, with good mouth and neat ears. Good neck and shoulders liked his depth of brisket with best of top lines and tail set. Coat not at its best, moved true when settled, RDCC

2nd    Felters & Rumens Landbuck Par Handy. 15 month old dark brindle. Masculine head, but short on furnishings around his nose and muzzle,  which made his head look out of proportion. Good top line and tail set.  In good coat, preferred the movement of 1 today.

Novice Dog 1 (0 absent)

1st    Fortune’s Eglish Spitting Image with Essdeeeff. Red in short coat, He stood alone in this class. Happy chap, but likes his dinners too much  which didn’t help his movement!!

Post Graduate Dog 4 (0 absent)

1st    Buchan’s Auchinkyle Superman Stan at Drayem.  Dark brindle coat, which wasn’t at its best today. Good head and mouth, good depth of brisket, well muscled hind quarters which was the engine house for his good driving movement. Showed well.

2nd    Lattimer’s Birslelaw Sir Bobby. Wheaten brindle, best of heads with typical dark points, profuse coat of the correct texture. Not as positive on the move as 1.

3rd    Lamb & Saltmarsh, Renshaw There and Back Again

Limit Dog 1 (0 absent)

Withheld award – in my opinion on the day this dog was not of sufficient merit to warrant placing within the first 3.

Open Dog 5 (0 absent)

1st    Felters and Rumens Ch. Landbuck Tillisch. Red in top condition today. Last time I went over this dog was in 2010 at Southern Counties, when I gave him a 1st in junior.  What I said then applies now, “Sound dog,  moved well both fore and aft.  Strong masculine head, good front, level top line, good tail set, Well muscled quarters, on his toes today”.  He has now matured and aspired to top honours and deserved the C.C. today.

2nd    Braybrook’s Ch. Cloverbrook Code Breaker. Grey brindle. Best of heads and mouths, love his expression, which is typical of this kennel.  Good depth of brisket, level top line and good tail set. However he lost out on movement to 1 today.

3rd    Percy’s Winetta Ch. Winetta Sir Percy

Puppy Bitch 8 (3 absent)

1st    Petts, Doonrae Lexicon of Love. 6½ month old wheaten brindle. Very feminine head, good mouth, neat ears, typical dark points, best of coats. Level top line good tail set. Moved well for one so young.

2nd    Osborns, Tweslam Thistle Be Magic. 8 month old red brindle. Loved her feminine head and expression. Good coat, beautifully presented as always from this kennel. I liked her overall appearance, but a bit reticent in moving today. Two very nice young ladies.

3rd   Currie’s Stirlingview Surprise.

Junior Bitch 6 (2 absent)

1st    Shaw’s Honeyhall Hearsay. 17 month old wheaten brindle. Excellent coat and condition. Best of heads and mouths, typical dark points. Level top[ line, good tail set. Good depth of brisket. Well muscled quarters, moved ok.

2nd    Catto’s, Birselaw Groovy Kind of Love. 17 month old wheaten. Rangier type, very feminine head and expression, well set on neck flowing into good lay back of shoulders, would have liked a deeper brisket. Good top line and tail set, steady mover.

3rd    Winetta Unforgettable.

Novice Bitch 1 (0 absent)

1st    Parkin’s, Roachdee Toffee Crisp. Wheaten with dark points, feminine head and expression, level top line, steady on the move, but another who likes her food!! Stood alone.

Post Graduate Bitch 11 (1 absent)

1st    Kinton’s, Woodthorpe Maybe This Time. Grey brindle, best of coats well presented with feminine head and expression. Liked her conformation and workman like appearance. No frills, what you see is what you get, very sound on the move, showed well.

2nd    Waugh & Carlton-Smith’s, Tribannon Guardian Angel. Red brindle, Beautiful feminine head and expression, neat ears, has eyes that would melt snow. Excellent front, level top line and tail well set on. I would have liked a bit more substance to complete the picture. She was a nightmare on the move and I found it very difficult to assess her movement on such a tight lead, as her front feet weren’t touching the floor.

3rd    Shannon & Storr’s, Brenndarcy Snedronningen.

Limit Bitch 6 (1 absent)

1st    Cameron’s, Stryveling Sweet Caroline. Very feminine wheaten, best of coats. Best of movers coping admirably with the conditions (she’s probably used to them by now). She stood out in this class and I seriously considered her for the C.C., but awarded her the R.C.C.

2nd    Warne’s, Cloverbrook Carousel at Spirebrooke JW. Grey brindle, with very feminine head and expression, good mouth. A lot to like about her, unlucky to meet 1st who was on top form today.

3rd    Osborn’s, Tweslam Winter Magic.

Open Bitch 6 (2 absent)

1st    Osborn’s, Tweslam Maid by Magic. Clear red with dark ears, Another very feminine head and expression with good a mouth. Excellent coat and condition presented beautifully.  The ring was hers, one of the best movers of the day, she has a very free flowing stride, helped by  very muscular hind quarters. It was a privilege to award her the C.C. and B.O.B.

2nd    Shaw’s, Honeyhall High N Dry. Wheaten Brindle, loved her head with the typical dark points. Shorter coupled than my winner, but moved and showed well.

3rd    Waugh’s, Tribannon in the Limelight.
