CAIRN TERRIER CLUB CH. SHOW, ALVA, 21.04.12

Not a big entry and, with quite a few absentees, I felt there was a lack of quality in depth but I was pleased with my main winners.  I was surprised to find a several mouths which only just made the correct bite and also some small teeth. Lack of stop was evident in a number of exhibits and some had overlarge and/or wide placed ears which does take away from the ideal Cairn head and expression. Temperament throughout was excellent, some were definitely at home at mealtimes. I found no short or flat ribcages, all had good tight feet and were clean.

VD (0)   VB (3, 1 abs)1. Ball’s Tweslam Izzy Wizzy Get Bizzy, 8 yrs red with excellent coat, not a small bitch but well proportioned, good length of leg, moved freely, pleasing expression. 2. Jennings’ Doonrae Zestful, almost 9 yrs, dark, very typical, shorter in leg than 1, well coated, trotted round happily.

Spec. Vintage (1) 1. Jennings, Doonrae Virtuoso, looking very well for his 15 ˝ years his excellent dark jacket greying attractively, still has most of his nice white teeth, delightful old boy who moved well for his age.

MPD ((1) 1. Bradshaw’s Newfield Harvestmoon, 7mths, sturdy masculine youngster, good red brindle coat, head OK with lovely big teeth, though to be super critical his ears could be a little wider set, well balanced pup, moved true fore and aft when he settled, BP.

PD (0) JD ((3) 1. Percy’s Winetta Stand And Deliver, very attractive young lad, lovely head with well placed ears and good teeth, level topline with correct tailset, good red brindle coat, nice size and balance, moved soundly. 2. Buttifant’s Orkneyviking Magnus, typy young dog, grey coat OK, nice for size, pleasant head and expression, skull could do with more breadth but this may come as he matures, moved well when he put his mind to it. 3. Hogarty’s Cadagio Someone Like You.

YD (4) 1. Catto’s Birselaw Bobby Darin, wheaten brindle, not a big dog by any means, lovely head and expression, typical of this kennel, good coat, well balanced and moved true, but could be just that bit more masculine. 2. Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There And Back Again, grey brindle, hairy and rather upright ears detract from his attractive head qualities, level topline, showed well, moved a little close behind, good harsh coat, 3. McDougall’s Brandarsaig Robert Brogue.

MD (0)

ND (2) 1. Sinclair’s Larchlea Hard Day’s Night, very attractive head with lovely big teeth, good coat which would benefit from tidying up, well proportioned dog, a little proud of his tail, moved fine. 2. Fortune’s Eglish Willies Wee Man With Essdeeeff, excellent red jacket, good topline, preferred head and length of back of 1. Both these dogs are up to size, not improved by being somewhat overweight.

GD (5) 1. Lattimer’s Birselaw Sir Bobby, beautiful head, short of coat but a good quality one coming in, would prefer a little more length in back, good topline and tailset, showed well, and moved soundly. 2. Gunn’s Birselaw Ice Dancer At Orkneyviking, another pleasing head and expression with good stop, level back, correct coat, in excellent hard condition 3. L. Hard Days Night.

PGD (4,1) 1. Cameron’s Stryveling Rocket Man, red brindle, very attractive young chap, nice for size, good red brindle coat, correct topline and tailset, pleasing outline, moved very well, in lovely condition. 2. B. Sir Bobby 3. B. Ice Dancer at O.

LD 1. Percy’s Winetta Sir Percy, well proportioned red brindle dog with good length of neck, topline and tailset.  Another in good hard condition with lovely coat.  Very nice head and expression, small correctly placed ears.  Moved a tad close behind, considered for RCC.

OD (7,2) 1. Shopland’s Ch. Cherrycrack Blackadder, very dark dog, so typy, beautiful head with good big teeth, appealing expression, well placed ears, lovely hard coat, good length of neck, straight front, excellent topline and tailset, so well balanced, in super condition, moved absolutely true fore and aft. CC and BIS. 2. Smith’s Ch. Rocasovale Razzle Dazzle, a chunkier dog than 1, very typical in head and expression, lovely coat, nice outline, showed well but playing up a bit on the move, a worthy champion but felt 1 just had the edge today, RCC 3. Ch. Brenndarcy Trouble At Mill.

SBD (5)  1. N. Harvestmoon, 2. Buchan’s Auchenkyle Superman Stan at Drayem, nice dark brindle with good hard coat, moving and showing very well, a little proud of his tail, head and expression OK. 3. L. Hard Days Night

MPB (4,2) 1. Bradshaw’s Newfield Michaelmas Daisy, litter sister to MPD winner, nice for size and well proportioned with level topline, good teeth and stop, head, expression and coat all OK. 2. Mears’ Glenmear Mammamia higher on leg than 1 and not moving as well at the rear, head OK with good teeth, might ‘grow into’ her ears, needs to body up.

PB (2) 1. Catto’s Birselaw Give Me A Break, very dark, long heavy coat rather detracted from her outline and expression but underneath she is a very nice puppy with a sweet ‘cairny’ expression, good length of leg, well placed ears, good mouth and moves very well. 2. Clark’s Lentrica Sweet Sensation, another attractive girl, finer made than 1, eyes a little closer set, well balanced with good coat, nice length of neck, toeing in a little at the rear, preferred head and expression of 1.

JB (7,4) 1.  Hogarty’s Cadagio Turning Tables, nicely balanced youngster, with very typical head and expression, moving soundly, correct coat, well presented and handled.  2. Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Snedronningen, another attractive bitch, not much between these two and same remarks apply, both had good teeth and level toplines. 2 was a little short of coat and 1 just had that extra ‘zip’ today. 3. Miller’s Cornton Diabeg.

YB (1) Buchan’s Carradine Little Cracker At Drayem, typical little bitch, excellent dark coat and lovely teeth, moved very well, level topline but would prefer a slightly longer back.

MB (1,1)

NB (1) Miller’s Cornton Diabeg, very dark well balanced bitch with good coat, skull a little narrow and lacking stop, good teeth, pins slightly at rear, level topline with good tailset.

GB (1) Bowness’ Birselaw Folksong, grey brindle, very typical bitch, good topline, tailset, teeth, moved steadily if a little close behind, good reach of neck and correct coat, not showing too well today.

PGB (4,2) 1. Percy’s Winetta Miss Independent, red brindle, 2. Waugh’s Tribannon Guardian Angel, two very nice bitches, a difficult decision.  Both have loads of breed type, had good coats, correct proportions, level toplines, good tailset and moved well. Today, however, head of 1 swung it and she had the edge on showmanship.

LB (3) 1. Cameron’s Stryveling Sweet Caroline, and sweet she is, such a feminine bitch with a melting expression, lovely light red jacket, good front, well enough balanced, a tad extra length of leg would be good but that is a minor criticism. Excellent mouth, well-placed ears and lovely tailset.  Showed happily, moved very well, good body in lovely condition, CC. 2. Shaw’s Honeyhall High N’Dry , another very attractive bitch, wheaten brindle with lovely dark points, pleasing head and well-placed ears, slightly narrower in skull than 1, lovely topline and tailset, correct angulation so moved very well. 3. Smith’s Anjofra Plum Tart At Rocasovale.

OB (7,3) 1. Ir. Ch. Cadagio Make it Happen, red, not a small bitch but well balanced, with lots of breed type, very showy, not overdone, very pleasing head, lovely coat, strode out very soundly, RCC.  2.  Waugh’s Tribannon In the Limelite, another nice one,  good movement as one expects from this breeder, lovely outline, showed well, good coat, just preferred the head of 1. 3. Thomas’s Tycadno Starlet.

SBB (3) 1. B. Folksong 2. N. Michaelmas Daisy 3. C. Little Cracker At D.

S Berrecloth, Judge.
