MANCHESTER CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW

19TH JANUARY 2012

CAIRN TERRIERS

I would like to thank the exhibitors for their entry for the show, but I was disappointed with the quality of some of the dogs. I was surprised to find some bad mouths, and small teeth. Some exhibits were over weight with heavy shoulders, and presentation was very mixed, with some dogs needing better grooming. The standard says rugged but not ragged. Movement was very mixed, ranging from good movement to wide fronts with restricted movement, and close hind movement with no drive. Care should be taken when choosing show stock, and it is always good to get somebody to move the dogs so that you can view the movement as a judge would see it!

I was pleased with my main winners. Dog C.C. and B.O.B was Percy’s Winetta Sir Percy, Res. Dog C.C. Shannon & Storr’s Ch Brenndarcy Trouble At Mill. Bitch C.C. winner was Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Xtra Factor, Res. C.C. Shearsmith’s Cloverbrook Cream O’ the Crop at Eborvale, and Best Puppy was Burgin’s Noncom Solitaire.

Puppy Dog 3 (2 abs)

1st. Burgin’s Noncom Hugo First, 7 month red brindle, good dark eye, strong head, correct mouth with good sized teeth, good forechest, coat tight and of a good texture. Moved okay when settled. His first show.

Junior Dog 5 (2 abs)

1st. Robert’s Cannwood Cut Above, beautiful headed wheaten with a good expression. Good dark eye, short foreface and a correct mouth. Straight front, well laid shoulders. Showed well and moved well behind.

2nd. Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There And Back Again, red brindle, good dark eye, correct head proportions, level topline and well set tail. Moved okay. Presentation could have been better although he was late coming into the ring due to travel delays.

3rd. Currie’s Stirlingview Stunner.

Post Graduate Dog 6 (1 abs)

1st. Keeves & Bennett’s Seveek Who Dares Wins, nicely balanced red brindle, well up on the leg, correct mouth, good length of neck into a level topline, good tailset. Shown in short coat.

2nd. Inett’s Hydecastle Reg the Rocket, wheaten with a good head and eye. Well placed shoulders flowing into a level topline, good tailset. Just preferred the movement of 1.

3rd. Brennan’s Milindack What News Watson.

Limit Dog 6 (0 abs)

1st. Percy’s Winetta Sir Percy, upstanding red brindle with beautiful lines. Strong head with correct proportions and a lovely expression. Correct mouth with strong teeth and a wide jaw. Straight front, excellent length of neck flowing into clean shoulders, level topline and a good tailset. Showed and moved well around the ring. Just stood out, pleased to award him his 2nd C.C. and B.O.B.

2nd. Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Codebreaker, well balanced grey brindle. Another dog with an excellent head of correct proportions and points. Very similar to 1 but I just preferred the presentation and movement of 1.

3rd. Robinson’s Cruzo Bilbo Baggins.

Open Dog 5 (2 abs)

1st. Shannon & Storr’s Ch Brenndarcy Trouble At Mill, well balanced grey brindle from a smaller mould than C.C. winner. Masculine head with a real cairn expression. Good length of neck and correct shoulders, strong rear quarters, nicely balanced. Showed and moved well both ways. A worthy Champion. Res. Dog C.C.

2nd. Shopland’s Cherrycrack Blackadder, dark brindle bigger in size than 1. Good head and a good dark eye, correct bite, straight front, good shoulders, level topline and correct tailset, Just not showing as well as 1.

Straight front, level topline and a good tailset. Shown in beautiful coat of correct texture. Well balanced, moved well. Will watch her future with interest. Best Puppy.

2nd. Clarke’s Lentrica Sweet Sensation, wheaten brindle smaller than 1 and with slightly different proportions. Good eye and expression, excellent topline which she kept on the move, good tailset. Longer in back than 1. Well presented and showed well. Hope she grows on.
