JOINT CAIRN
TERRIER CLUBS OPEN SHOW
15th July 2012
It was with very big honour and pride that I accepted the invitation to
judge the Joint Cairn Terrier Clubs Open Show in Gloucestershire. And I thank
the exhibitors for coming, the committee for inviting me and my steward Sharon
Confue who made everything go smooth. Unfortunately there were quite a few
absentees but I hope the reason was weather and not me.
You have dogs with wonderful temperaments that enjoys showing or so it
seemed. Generally very good coats and few products. I found that hind
angulations were correct, nice short tails.
I was surprised to find so many dogs (and bitches not so much) lacking
dept in ribcage and not standing well forward on their front legs .......they
can't if they are lacking forechest.
For me on an adult dog, the rib should match the height of the elbow, no
gap there. Young dogs are different, they need time to develop and fill
up.
Heads, you do have some stunning heads..... but there were some that
under a beautiful trim is disappointed when felt on. Mouths were mostly good
with nice big white teeth I saw only a few level bites and lack of premolars
and a single one was missing a front tooth. Some could not hold their top-line
on the move and a couple of dogs walked on two tracks. Watch the fronts, they
should not have a fox terrier front, we want Cairns that have their front legs
placed almost under their body, with good angulations front and back. Cairns
should not just be in a pen/run, they should be allowed to RUN and play and of
course also walk on lead and do street practice. So what I would focus on would
be front, muscles and more filling under the eyes.
