The Cairn Terrier Association Championship Show 17 November 2013 I would like to thank the CTA
Committee for inviting me to judge their Show and the exhibitors for
providing me with an excellent challenging entry. The bitches were generally
of better quality than the dogs, but I was very pleased with my top winners.
There was quite a range of size and substance mainly in the lower classes.
However, this was not a concern for me, because balance and movement are my
top priorities which featured in my choice of placing’s. Some classes were of
such high quality it was difficult to establish the order of awards and on
another day may well have been different. I enjoyed my day and was delighted
to go over and observe some first class, superb exhibits. Veteran Dog or Bitch (7,3A) 1. Clarke’s Ch. Conundrum Sweeter for
Me for Lentrica JW. ShCM, 7 yr. dark brindle with a lovely head and outline.
Good length of neck and level topline with correct tailset. Moved freely
around the ring, parallel both front
and rear and kept her topline on the move. BV. 2. Dolan’s Glenrood Magic Solitaire an
11 yr. dark brindle. In excellent condition for her age with a well balanced
outline. Moved well, but misbehaved a little and not quite up to 1 this time. 3. Thompson’s Castleline Bonnie JW. Minor Puppy Dog (3,0A) 1. Robert’s Cannwood Call of Duty a 7
month wheaten brindle. A large rangy puppy, but well balanced with
proportional head and lovely large teeth and correct bite. Level topline,
good tailset and correct coat. Best mover in the Class. 2. Dolan’s Glenrood Trojan Prince, an
8 month dark brindle puppy. Smaller than 1, but balanced outline with a nice
neck and level topline. Lost out to 1 on movement, but should improve with
maturity. 3. Atkin’s Carradine Silver Surfer. Puppy Dog (7,1A) 1. Currie’s Stirlingview Superhero an
11 month light red puppy with a well proportioned outline. Good head and nice
length of neck into a level topline. Well bodied up, but not heavy. Moved
well with purpose and drive. 2. Shannon and Storr’s Brenndarcy
Limited edition an 11 month light red puppy, just slightly shorter than 1.
Lovely well proportioned head and expression. Slightly more angulated in the
rear, but still well balanced. A free mover who gave 1 a close run for
honours today. 3. Poile’s Kedvaiy Hogmanay. Junior Dog (4,2A) 1. Mear’s Glenmear Magee. A large
rangey red that presents a balanced outline from the side. Slightly short of
coat. Moves OK, but briefly, and at other times does not do himself justice. 2. Saich’s Lindcoly Risk it for
Biscuit. A smaller red brindle cairn. Head appears narrow, but could be down
to lack of head furnishings. Not as good a showman as 1. Novice Dog (5,1A) 1. Bradshaw and Shannon’s Newfield
Harvest Moon over Brenndarcy. A red brindle, balanced and well up to size
outline with a lot to like. Good masculine head and correct bite with large
teeth. Good length of neck, level topline and correct tailset. Moved well around the ring with purpose. 2. Shopland’s Hjohoos A Kind Hjo Can’t
Find on Cherrycrack (IMPSWE). A red brindle less bodied up than 1, but well
balanced in profile. Level topline, good coat and moved well but not quite as
freely as 1. 3. Saich’s Lindcoly I Believe I Can
Fly. Post Graduate Dog (5) 1. Waite’s Svendalens Snow Knight a wheaten
dog of medium size with balanced
proportions. Good head enhanced with dark points, good stop, correct bite and
large teeth. Well angulated quarters both front and rear and a level topline.
Moved straight both front and rear with drive. 2. Shannon and Storr’s Brenndarcy
Borgen another medium sized dog and also well balanced. Very good head and
stop, correct ears and dark eye. Well bodied up, level topline and correct
tailset. Moved OK, but not as purposeful today. 3. Day’s Cherrycrack Ludo at Trekhilli. Limit dog (6,1A) 1. Percy’s Winetta Stand and Deliver,
a dark red brindle which I have liked before and did not disappoint today. I
could find nothing to dislike. He has a lovely head, well proportioned body,
level topline and harsh coat. He moved freely around the ring with purpose. 2. Brennan’s Milindack Whats News
Watson a wheaten brindle. Another good example of the breed. He has a lovely
head and balanced outline and although movement was OK; he was beaten by 1 by
better ring presence. 3. Currie’s Stirlingview Stunning. Open Dog (3) Three lovely dogs making a quality
class. !. Catto’s Birselaw The Thrill of It
All. A super dark grey brindle oozing quality. Lovely proportional, masculine
head, well furnished with good stop, mouth and jaw. Nice length of neck
running into good layback of shoulders and a level topline. Correctly
angulated front and rear quarters which provided sound movement. Deserved his
DCC and BIS. 2. Robert’s Cannwood Cut Above,
another quality wheaten dog. Slightly taller than 1, but well balanced.
Lovely head and expression with nice length of neck. Well proportioned body
and front and rear quarters giving a level topline. Moved and Showed well
although a handful at times. RDCC. 3. Bateman’s Carradine Terries Tipple.
He had tough competition today. Special Beginners Dog or Bitch (4) 1. Waites Svendalens Snow Knight. 2. Moreley’s Kedvaiy Locamotion, a
dark brindle well balanced dog presenting a pleasing outline. Level back and
well angulated quarters. Moved and Showed Well. 3. Parkin’s Carradine My Mate Mathew. Minor Puppy Bitch (9). What a lovely
class of Youngsters. 1. Pett’s Doonrae Norma Jean, a 7
month wheaten brindle, nicely balanced puppy. Feminine head and expression,
correct bite and large teeth. Good length of neck and layback of shoulders.
Level topline and correct tailset. Moved and showed well. 2. Carter’s Lentrica Sweet Passion at
Carernwil, a 7 month wheaten brindle with a very attractive head and
expression, slightly smaller than 1, but also well balanced. A lovely girl
with excellent conformation. Moved OK but not quite as confident as 1 today. 3. Owen’s Caldwall Carefree, a
promising puppy but needs to settle. Puppy Bitch (9,2A) 1. Inett, Clayton and Harrison’s
Carradine Secret Snowdrop, a wheaten brindle of 11 months with dark points. A
well proportioned puppy with a feminine head, nice reach of neck, good
layback of shoulders, level topline and correct tailset. Moderate angulation
on both front and rear quarters which gave free movement with drive. She
deserved BPIS. 2. Shannon and Storr’s Brenndarcy
Dizzy Rascal, an 11 month red puppy. Bigger and heavier in bone than 1, but
still well balanced. Good sound conformation. A close decision for
honours,but she needs to steady herself on the move. A very promising new
girl. 3. Owen’s Caldwall Call the Shots,
another bitch that needs to settle to achieve her potential. Junior Bitch (3,1A) 1. Felters and Rumen’s Landbuck
Xanthe, a wheaten bitch with attractive dark points. There is a lot to like
about this girl, with everything in the right place, coupled with a super
outline and feminine disposition. Moved like a dream and was well presented
and handled. RBCC. 2. Inett’s Carradine Lady Lola, a
wheaten brindle. More rangey than 1 and not quite so feminine in head. Nevertheless
a good example of the breed, but today her movement was not quite as good and
was outgunned by 1. Novice Bitch (7) 1. Shannon and McGrath’s Brenndarcy
Bit of Bother, a feminine grey brindle bitch, which was the best mover in the
class. Lovely head, neck and shoulders with level topline and correct
tailset. I was pleased to award first place. 2. Hewitt’s Littleacorn Alive, a dark
brindle bitch similar in type to 1 and although good in most aspects did not
move as freely and true as 1. A little more practice should improve her
performance. 3. Bradshaw’s Newfield Michaelmas
Daisy. Post Graduate Bitch (11,4A) Another
lovely class of bitches 1. Goud’s Vale of Atholls Bessie
Mcintyre, a lovely wheaten bitch with dark points which enhanced her
femininity. Well bodied up , but not overweight. Excellent conformation, with
attractive head, good neck and level topline. Moved freely, straight both
front and rear and a credit to her handler. 2.Pett’s Doonrae Lexicon of Love, a
more rangey wheaten brindle bitch. Again, conformation was good and
everything in the right place and in proportion. Moved well and a strong
challenge for 1. 3. Keeve’s Seveek I Dreamed a Dream. Limit Bitch (14,1A and 1W) A quality
class of bitches 1. Keeve’s Living the Dream, a solid
red quality bitch. Good head, stop, dark eyes and correct bite. Good reach of
neck and good shoulder placement. Level topline and correct tailset. I liked
her front and rear angulation which gave her an alert disposition and
pleasing outline. I liked her a lot and she moved smoothly around the ring
with purpose. BCC, RBIS & BOS. 2. Inett and Bateman’s Carradine In
Love With Amy, a wheaten brindle and another excellent example of the breed.
I liked her very much. Conformation was excellent with all the right attributes,
giving good movement, but just pipped by 1 for excellence today. 3. Percy’s Winetta Miss Independent.
Also a first class bitch and was unlucky to come up against 1 & 2. Open Bitch (1). I bet some exhibitors
had wished they had entered this class. 1. Yates and Johnson’s Pendley
Playaway JW, a dark grey brindle bitch presenting a smart outline from the
side. Lovely head and expression and very showy. A little short in back for
my liking, but moved well and might have achieved a better overall result on
