The entry was lower than I would have
liked, for various reasons and I should like to take this opportunity to
thank those who entered and those who attended. Despite the low numbers I had some lovely Cairns to go over,
the quality was high. The weather was too hot for the dogs, exhibitors and
the judge but I elected to judge outside due to the long grass in the tents. Due to the heat, I had to take into
account that showmanship and movement would not be as good as I would have liked. Some exhibits moved sluggishly,
particularly visible from the rear and I have no doubt that this was due to
the temperature. I have seen some
move better in the past. Mpd (1 Entries) Abs: 1 Light red with plenty of leg but nicely
balanced. Typical Cairn head enhanced with dark points. Correct straight front, good bone. Nice flow to his neck into well laid
shoulders. At the
"teenager" stage at the moment but I believe he has good potential,
a nice frame to build into. When he
showed himself off his shape was really nice. Red in good, full coat and excellent condition. My kind of head, deep stop, good breadth
of skull. Eyes of correct shape and
size giving that typical Cairn expression.
Adequate bone and length of neck. Lovely level topline, kept on the
move. Tail set good and carried
correctly. Moved out and showed well. Upstanding male with a very strong but
attractive head. Dark points made it
even better. Nicely balanced with
excellent bone, straight front, well laid shoulders, good spring of rib. Level topline, nice bend of stifle. Moved
true in front and with (that rarely seen nowadays) adequate space and drive
in the rear. He well deserved his RCC win.
Grey brindle, good head with deep stop, level topline, well
boned and muscled. Moved OK.
Nice size, to the standard and so well
balanced. On his toes all the time.
Attractive head, good mouth. Stood well
forward on his forepaws. Level topline, kept on the move. Medium bone, good spring of rib and bend
of stifle. Alert all the time with his tail up. Moved steadily and with drive.
Well presented and in good condition.
CC.
Cream in very good double coat of
correct texture. I loved his head and expression and overall
conformation. Presented well. Lively showman, was attentive to his
handler. I liked him a lot and did
consider him for the RCC but he was not quite so positive in his rear
movement as the RCC winner. Res: Lamb & Saltmarsh's Birselaw Fable Sh.Cm It's not often I see one I would like to take home, but this is
the one! So typical of the breed, a
cute pup with a head to die for, that mix of cheekiness and femininity. Combine this with good overall shape and
balance, length of neck and level topline and true movement front and rear
and you have got what I like. She behaved so well for one so young. No
hesitation in awarding her BPIB. Cream with a lovely feminine head,
quality puppy who was unlucky to meet MPB winner in the BP challenge. I like this one a lot. She has a lovely straight front with good
bone. Good flow of neck, level
topline, in excellent coat and condition. Nicely balanced and well
presented. Moved and showed well.
Nice pup, well balanced.
Medium bone with straight front.
Level topline and good bend of stifle. Coat of good texture. Well presented, she strode out well. Didn't show as well as winner, I think the
heat was getting to her. I liked this one a lot, she is so
feminine with a lovely clean cut outline.
Lovely to go over on the table. Correct in all departments, sound and
well balanced. Expressive head, nice flow of neck, clean shoulders, level
topline. Nicely presented but could
do with a bit more coat. Moved
soundly when settled, she needs checking so that she does not pace. Very smart and showy red brindle. Stood four squared showed her head
off. Clean outline with level
topline, excels in head and has a lovely length of neck, carried her head
proudly. Level topline, correct tail
set. Balanced bitch with a good coat,
well presented. Moved well both
ways. One to watch.
Lovely red bitch, excels in head and
expression. In full coat. Nicely
boned with straight front and well muscled and angulated rear. Feeling the heat today, not showing herself
to her advantage.
Lovely balanced bitch with correct coat
texture. Typical feminine head and
expression with deep stop and small, correctly shaped and placed ears which
she used well. Conformation A1. Very
attentive to handler, moved OK.
Pushed hard in the challenge but just did not have that extra sparkle
today, probably due to the weather.
An old favourite of mine, has
the most lovely head with broad skull but yet still feminine. Straight front, level topline, good depth
of chest. Well muscled rear. In good coat.
The weather would not put this one off, but she was not settled on the
move today. So, so lively and keeps her handler on
his toes. In other respects she is a
sound, "medium" sort of bitch who is not overdone in any way. And she is balanced and of the correct
size with a feminine head and lovely dark eye. She was one of the best movers of the day, moving effortlessly
around the ring, driving from the rear with adequate space between her back
legs. In good coat and condition, not
overtrimmed but shown in full coat as
a Cairn should be. CC.
Nicely balanced quality grey bitch, I liked her a lot. She has a lovely head with a good flow of
neck. Well made throughout, medium
bone. Deep in forechest with a
straight front and level topline.
Very well muscled and angulated rear.
Moved well both ways. Could
not match winner in energy though! Grey
bitch shown in very full, correct double coat. Excellent showgirl. Has a
lovely strong head and good bone. Attentive to handler but feeling the heat. Linda Firth (Judge) |
