Ladies Kennel Association, 14 December 2014 – CAIRN TERRIERS

I would like to thank exhibitors for their entries and allowing me to go over your dogs. I had been looking forward to judging the breed in the UK and I really enjoyed myself during the day. I had great help in the ring from Sharon Confue and Jenny Fairweather, thank you girls!

Usually type varies in Cairns but consider this positive from a point of view of a wide gene pool! In some classes I was spoiled for choice and I was not disappointed about overall quality.

In general, heads were attractive but we could have more depth here in the breed. A good stop is a rarity nowadays.

Bites were generally good with clean teeths. Only two or three left something to be desired. A good number had harsh outer coats of good length but some missed soft undercoats. A few exhibits could have been presented cleaner on the table.

In a number of Cairns, pronounced forechests were lacking and this goes together with losing depth in rib. A point that should not be neglected.

I was really pleased with my winners, not only the ticket winners but also in puppy and veteran.
