DSS Championship Show 16th
January 2014 Cairn
Terriers My thanks to the Committee for
inviting me to judge the breed and for their hospitality. I would also like
to thank my stewards for the efficient way they kept proceedings running smoothly.
Finally, my thanks to the exhibitors without whom there wouldn’t be a show! Sadly I found a couple of exhibits who
needed a good bath as coats were greasy, dirty and smelly. It was especially pleasing that there
were 14 puppies and 13 juniors entered with only 1 absentee. It’s good that
there are youngsters out there which bodes well for the future. PD (4, 0 abs) 1 Steele DOONRAE MONBEG DUDE. BPD. Lovely cream/brindle, 11 ½
months with good head, stop, eye, expression. Correct bite, teeth. Liked his
balance, reach of neck flowing into good shoulders, level topline, correct
tailset. Moved with drive and purpose. Very promising. 2 Miller CORNTON DARK CORRIE. Very
dark 7 months. Appealing, balanced,
true Cairn expression. Liked his carriage, eye, teeth, strong jaw, bite. Coat
a little soft (but should change). A little unruly and movement was not as
positive as the winner but still a baby. 3 Brennan MILLNDACK MASTER CLASS JD (8, 0). 1 Thomas TYCADNO I SPY. CC & BOB. Cream/brindle, 15
months. A most appealing young dog who excelled in every department. Superb
balance. Loved his head, stop, eye, ear placement, strong jaw, big teeth.
Medium bone. Profuse, double coat of correct texture. Level topline, tailset
as it should be and tail carried at correct angle. Pleasure to handle on the
table. Muscled rear quarters. Spot on front and rear movement and never
flagged. 2 Inett & Engebretsen CARRADINE
DEXTER. Dark red/brindle, 13 months and still maturing. Liked his head, ear
placement, eye, expression, teeth, bite.
Coat is shorter than winner. Good balance, topline and movement. 3 Currie STIRLINGVIEW SUPERHERO PGD (1, 0) 1 Waugh TRIBANNON WAR DANCE. Standing
alone, well presented light red/wheaten, quality coat, dark eye, pleasing
head and expression. Moved well fore and aft with the necessary drive.
Retained his topline while going around the ring. Good reach of neck but a
shade long in the back. LD (5, 0) 1 Waites SVENDALENS SNOW KNIGHT Res CC. Balanced wheaten/brindle,
masculine head, liked his eye, stop, strong jaw, good reach of neck, level
topline retained throughout, profuse double jacket with harsh outer coat.
Moved true, going and coming. A typical workmanlike Cairn who should be
troubling the best. 2 Bradshaw & Shannon NEWFIELD HARVEST MOON OVER BRENNDARCY. Lovely red
brindle with a typical head and expression. Big teeth, proper bite. Good
bone. Excellent coat, put down well but tail needs some attention. 3 Byrne & Inett CARRADINE BRIAN
THE LION OD (5, 1) 1 Bateman & Gompels CARRADINE
TERRIES TIPPLE. Cream/brindle, balanced, presented well with a good quality
coat. Keen expression. Liked his eye, bone, front, topline, tailset. Front
movement and side gait good but a little less positive from the rear. 2 Confue U’JINN MACDONALD. Dark
grey/brindle. Balanced, in profuse, harsh coat. Head, expression OK, Moved
steadily fore and aft and showed excellent outline, topline and tail set when
moving across the ring. 3 Lamb & Saltmarsh BIRSELAW FABLE Sh.CM VD (2, 0) 1 Parkin ROACHDEE MYSTERY OF THE FULL
MOON. Alert wheaten, 7 years, not showing her age. Good mouth, dentition.
Harsh coat, level topline, correct tail set, moved with drive and strode
across the ring with purpose. 2 Lynch FIELDRON CALL MY BLUFF AT
LINEACRELADS. Well presented, cream/wheaten nearly 8 years. Carrying her age
well. Good coat, head, dark points, dark eye, mouth, bone. Moved steadily. Little separated these
two. PB (10, 1). A well filled class of
delightful youngsters. In the absence of a minor puppy class age difference
was obvious. 1 Confue ANJOFRA MAD ABOUT ME BPB & BP. A lovely 6 1/2 month
red/brindle who is for me exactly how a puppy of this age should be. Eye
catching, with charisma. Right for size, I liked her balance, head, mouth,
ear placement, inquisitive expression. Alert. Quality puppy coat. Lovely back
end, super driving rear movement. Very promising. 2 Waugh TRIBANNON ON TIP TOES. Another
of 6 ½ months. Light red/wheaten, bigger than winner. Balanced and in good
coat. Liked her head, keen expression, good mouth. Another who knows how to
move with that all important drive, and another to watch as she matures. Two
lovely puppies. 3 Shannon & Storr BRENNDARCY
TOMMALISE JB (5, 1) 1 Shannon & Storr BRENNDARCY
DIZZIE RASCAL. Red, 13 months with super quality coat. Liked her bone, teeth, alert expression,
topline and spot on tail set. A balanced Cairn underneath the coat. The
visual effect could be improved by removing some coat from around the neck. A
little naughty on the table. 2 Weinberger CORRENIE LUCK BE A LADY.
Nearly 16 months dark red brindle. Good mouth, teeth, bite reach of neck.
Liked her tailset and coat. Well muscled rear end and moved steadily.
Slightly shorter in back than winner 3 Randall CLOVERBROOK WOT A SURPRISE PGB (7, 0). A good class. 1 Petts DOONRAE LEXICON OF LOVE. CC. A
beautifully balanced wheaten/brindle. Nothing exaggerated. Lovely to go over
on the table. Showy, keen expression. Alert, workmanlike. Loved her head,
eye, topline, tailset, bone. One of the best movers of the day. 2 Osborn TWESLAM THISTLE BE MAGIC.
Red/brindle of quality. In good coat, lovely head, eye, expression who moved
very well. Balanced, but today lost her topline on the move. 3 Shannon & Mcrath BRENNDARCY BIT
OF BOTHER. LB (8, 2) 1 Bateman & Inett CARRADINE IN
LOVE WITH AMY. Res CC. Wheaten
brindle, balanced bitch. Liked her feminine head and expression, teeth,
strong jaw, bite Correct tailset and level topline which she retained on the
move.. Correct rear angulation provided good drive and movement. Handler got
the best out of her to advantage. 2 Keeves SEVEEK LIVING THE DREAM JW
Sh.CM. Red bitch, proper double coat, harsh outer coat. Handled well on the
table. Good reach of neck, rib cage, muscled rear and angulation. Level
topline, correct tail set and good bone. On the floor she would not cooperate with her handler
making it difficult to assess her movement. What a shame. 3 Ward VANAJAM ITS COLD OUT SIDE OB (4, 1) 1 Dolan CASTLELINE PEGGY SUE. Light
red/wheaten in good coat. Balanced with good head, eye, neat well placed
ears, correct expression. Liked her bend of stifle, bone and movement. Nice
type of Cairn. 2 Peers TWEEDISLE SEA BREEZE.
Different type to winner. Wheaten, head OK, a little light boned and presentation
could be improved. Moved steadily but a little lethargic. 3 Melia ROACHDEE TREACLE BON BON. VB (1, 0) 1 Melia ROACHDEE SWEET DREAMS.
Standing alone but seemed to be enjoying her day out. I liked her head,
expression, mouth, teeth and harsh coat. Level topline, good tailset which
she kept on the move. Richard A Rumens (Judge) |
