Cairn Terrier Association  Championship Show 14th November 2015

My thanks to the Officers and Committee of the CTA for inviting me to judge this well run and friendly show. Thanks also to my two very able Stewards, Sharon (Confue) and Philip (Horspool) who kept proceedings running smoothly. Finally, special thanks must go to the Exhibitors who I hope enjoyed their day.

I felt that the quality of the dogs, in depth, was lacking but the top winners stood apart. The bitches presented much more of a challenge especially in Post Grad, Limit and Open. Here the competition was much stronger and the gap between the winners and subsequent positions was much narrower.

I found some carrying more weight than I would have expected or liked. This was very noticeable on the table examination. Heads were generally good but one or two lacked sufficient stop. Coat quality was variable. There is still a continuing problem with movement.

VD/B (5,0 abs)

1 Parkin ROACHDEE MYSTERY OF THE FULL MOON. Wheaten dog, 9 years in overall good condition.  Liked his coat, level topline retained on the move, head, eye, expression, bite. Moved well with purpose. BV

2 Byrne LTTLE MISS TONKA.  8 years wheaten bitch. Very similar type to winner and same comments apply – like two peas in a pod.  Not quite the movement of the winner.

3 Kinchin TRYEECE’S TRICKS AT PENNIDAZZLE 71/2, D

MPD (3, 0)

1 Shopland TREKHILLI MISTER BEAN AT CHERRYCRACK. A very nice 7 months dark brindle with a good head, big teeth, proper scissor bite, dark eye and nicely muscled, Level topline. Steady mover.

2 Waugh TAM O’SHANTER’S UP AND AWAY. Very similar type to winner, though slightly younger at only 6 months. Another with good head, eye, stop, bite and bone.  Moved well. Two promising puppies; will be interesting to watch their development.

3 Parker-Tucker UNIQUECOTTAGE MELCOMBE.

PD (3, 0)

1 Catto BIRSELAW STAY WITH ME.  Upstanding 11 ½ months well constructed and profuse coated red/brindle. He is up to size but balanced and has a good head, stop, big teeth, proper bite and a harsh coat. Liked his eye shape/colour, ear placement.  BPD

2 Keeves SEVEEK I SPIED THAT DREAM.  11 months wheaten. Good bone, well muscled. Head/eye shape/ear placement ok. Not as settled on the move as the winner but an “honest”, workmanlike Cairn.

3 Dennis SVENDALENS INTO MISCHIEF.

JD (1, 0)

1 Marshall BRENNDARCY LORD MARMADUKE AVEC STRATHGARTEN, Standing alone. A lovely balanced cream with delightful dark points. Good head, expressive eyes, mouth, teeth, bite. Coat coming through nicely. Good reach of neck, level topline retained on the move, tailset spot on. Moved positively coming and going. Not quite 18 months and maturing nicely. Liked him a lot. RCC, BJ

ND (1, 0)

1 Purvis  MIGHTY REARRANGER WITH MOSSPUR. Standing alone. Balanced light red. Liked his teeth, bite neck, level topline and tailset. Stood well but rear movement was not as positive as I would have liked.

PGD (7, 0)

1 Inett, Harrison, King, Leighton CARRADINE GEORGE FLIES WITH HARKINGLEIGH. Red brindle, masculine dog that shone in this class and went on to be my BIS. Balanced, right for size, good coat, correct, eye coulour/shape, defined stop, proper ear placement, keen expression. Handled well on the table, liked his neck, shoulders, level topline held on the move, tailset. Moved true with drive. He is only 18 months so should have a bright future. CC, BIS

2 Parker-Tucker UNIQUECOTTAGE WINSFORD. Masculine, balanced in good coat and condition. Liked his head, eye, ear placement, expression.  Good neck, shoulders. Another who handled well on the table and who moved well. Perhaps a little unruly!

3 Thompson CASTLELINE BARN DANCE

 LD (6, 1)

1 Day CHERRYCACK LUDO AT TREKHILLI. An appealing masculine, balanced very dark brindle with a harsh coat. Liked his head/eye/stop/teeth/bite and level topline, tailset. Moved with drive.

2 Kinton WOODTHORPE I KNOW THE CODE. Balanced masculine cream/brindle in good coat. Another whose head/expression appealed, correct bite/mouth. Lighter in bone than winner and although  moved well a little less dynamic.

3 Drew TYCADNO THRILLER AT L’ARTISTE

OD (5, 1)

1 Inett, Harrison, Melia CAN CH EMJADE JIMMY HENDRIX (IMP CAN). Dark red/brindle who handled well on the table. Liked his overall shape, head, mouth, bite. He has a good topline, bend of stifle and coat.. Moved with purpose and drive but somewhat erratic from the rear view.

2 Shannon, Storr, Kaplin AM GR CH BRENNDARCY BORGEN (RE IMP). Wheaten in good coat. Smaller type/construction than winner with a nice head. Moved ok but today just lacked sparkle and presence

Waites SVENDALENS SNOW KNIGHT

SBD/B (3, 0)

1 Purvis MIGHTY REARRANGER WITH MOSSPUR. First in ND.

2 Williams SEVEEK COUNTRY SUNSET. Nice type of bitch who needs a new coat. Liked her head/teeth/bite. Bone ok. Promising but needs training to show her underlying qualities to advantage.

3 Davies CLOVERBROOK HARRIS TWEED

MPB (3, 0)

1 Parker-Tucker UNIQUECOTTAGE FLOREY. 8 months playful wheaten in good coat who was enjoying her day out. Liked her head and feminine, sweet, alert expression. Good bone and kept her topline when moving. A nice type who should do well as she matures.

2 Short SPLINTERHILL’S AMAZING GRACE TO GLENCHESS. Another nice puppy. 9 months, very dark with a good head/mouth/teeth/bite. Mature for age, moved well but just preferred the “fun” attitude  of the winner.

3 Oxman CANNWOOD CONTESSA

PB (5, 1)

1 Clarke LENTRICA DOLLY DAY DREAM. A most appealing balanced cream in good coat and condition and about to move up to Junior. Handled well on the table. Lovely head and expression. Good front/shoulders/topline./tailset. Alert, cheerful disposition. Moved confidently and soundly fore and aft. Everything one would want at this stage. A bright future beckons. BPB, BPIS

2 Keeves SEVEEK HOPES N’DREAMS. Red of good type and size and, like winner, soon to move to Junior. Good head/eye/stop/alert expression. Quality coat but a little judicious trimming on the back would show her topline to advantage. Another who should do well as she matures.

3 Williams SEVEEK COUNTRY SUNSET

JB (3, 1)

1 Osborn TWESLAM GIMME GIMME MAGIC. Light red in good coat. Alert with sweet expression. Liked the topline/tailset. Steady mover. At only 13 months has plenty of time to mature.

2 Keeves SEVEEK MIDNIGHT DREAMS AMONG SEVEEK. Wheaten/brindle with a pleasing head/expression and correct ear placement. Alert. Good bone. Coat not at its best.

NB (6, 1)

1 Catto NORDCAIRN’S PEACE OF MIND AT BIRSELAW (IMP DK). Balanced, well presented brindle show girl with a good head/eye/teeth/expression. Level topline, correct tailset. Moved with drive and purpose.

2.Short SPLINTERHILL’S AMAZING GRACE TO GLENCHESS. (2nd in MPB)

3 Parker-Tucker UNIQUECOTTAGE GREY BRATTON

PGB (11, 3).

1 Robinson CRUZO CORN BUNTING. An appealing, balanced red in good coat (quality and texture). Impressive head, alert expression, correct ear placement, stop. Level topline both standing and moving. Spot on tail set, Good bone. Moved positively in both directions.

2 McGrath BRENNDARCY CINNAMON GIRL. A nice type of wheaten with a good tight coat. Liked her reach of neck. Lovley dark  eye enhancing her expression. Not as showy as winner but her movement earned her 2nd place in this strong class.

3 Owen CALDWELL CAREFREE

 LB (11, 3) A very good class.

1 Waugh TRIBANNON MINUET. I fell for this cream when she strode around the ring. Well constructed, in superb order and condition. Right for size and weight. Has a super head; liked her feminine expression, eye/teeth/mouth. In good coat. Moved positively with drive and covered the ground effortlessly. Real challenger for the top spot. RCC

2 Confue ANJOFRA MAD ABOUT ME. Grey/brindle feminine bitch with a good head/expression. Muscled rear quarters, well boned. Another who moved effortlessly with drive and purpose. Somewhat unlucky to meet the winner in such good form.

3 Robinson CRUZO CAPRIOLE

OB (8, 1). A class full of quality

1 Owen CH CALDWALL CALL THE SHOTS. This bitch fits the standard in every way – alert of workmanlike natural appearance. A beautiful cream with a keen expression. A pleasure to handle on the table where there is nothing to hide. In superb coat and condition. Moved effortlessly and with drive. A pleasure to award her the CC. Unfortunately in the challenge for BIS she decided not to cooperate which made her difficult to handle. CC, RBIS, BOS

2 Keeves CH SEVEEK LIVING THE DREAM. A favourite of mine and a worthy Champion/representative of the breed.  A lovely red in good coat. Liked her feminine expression/head/coat. Moved positively and at one with her handler on this occaision.

3 Bateman, Inett CH CARRADINE IN LOVE WITH AMY
