Border Union 2016 Cairn Terriers

Just a few general comments - all mouths were OK apart from one with only 5 bottom teeth.  Most heads I found good, toplines were particularly excellent and shoulders clean with correct layback.  However a few, otherwise nice Cairns, were overweight and not trimmed sufficiently.  "Rugged but not ragged" is the phrase, some were definitely on the ragged side.  Movement was in most cases Ok and I think is improving.  I was sorry to hear that 2 exhibitors were prevented from attending due to medical emergencies.

1.      Percy's Winetta What The Heck - Best Puppy Dog

Ultra smart pup, wheaten brindle.  Full of personality for one so young. Balanced and typy.  I particularly liked his level topline and his reach and flow of neck. Presented in good coat and condition. Everything else OK.  Happy showman, wagging his tail all the time.  A good future prospect.

Novice - Dog

1.      Smith's Rocasovale Danish Delight

A balanced dark brindle male, clean outline with an adequate length of neck.  Good bone, good harsh coat.  True mover both front and rear.  When he uses his ears he really looks the part.

2.      Dodds' Birselaw Stand With Me

Copper brindle with an excellent profuse coat.  A very nice Cairn but unfortunately he was far too heavy and as a result his movement was not what it should have been.

Post Graduate - Dog

Entries: 3 Absentees: 1

1.      Smith's Rocasovale Distant Drums

Nicely balanced light copper brindle, broad skull and correct earset, strong masculine head.  Good bone, well made throughout. He moved with drive and showed with animation.

2.      Lamb & Saltmarsh's Birselaw Dark Charmer

Nice sized Cairn, attractive head, level topline, strong back.  Well muscled thighs.  A nice Cairn but unfortunately in his undercoat today.

1.      Percy's Winetta Sir Ivor

Smart dark brindle, excellent coat texture.  I liked his head which is attractive but masculine at the same time and he has that wonderful Cairn expression.  Stood four square which highlighted his correct balance.  Level topline, attentive showman, moved OK.

2.      Parkin's Carradine My Mate Matthew

Good head on this light grey brindle.  Straight front and correct shoulders. Conformation Ok but he appeared somewhat sluggish today. In good coat and condition.

3.      Miller's Cornton Dark Corrie

A good class

1.      Shaw's Ch Honeyhall Headboy - CC/BOB

Soundly made throughout with a lovely head, broad skull, deep stop, powerful jaw, expressive eyes.  Easily identifiable as a quality male.  Correct lay of shoulder, deep in rib. Level back, topline kept on the move.  I particularly liked his strong rear movement, he simply drove out so well behind.  Pleased to award him CC and BOB.

2.      Inett, Harrison, King & Leighton's Ch Carradine George Flies With Harkinleigh Jw - RCC

Another worthy champion who was presented to perfection, in good harsh coat.  I liked his size and balance. Well made throughout, just preferred the movement of Headboy.

3.      Waites' Ch Svendalens Snow Knight

4.      Lamb & Saltmarsh's Renshaw There And Back Again Under Macmoon Shcm

1.      Smith's Ch Rocasovale Razzle Dazzle - Best Veteran

Ultra showy veteran, presented in excellent harsh coat and condition. He's fit there's no doubt about that, strong body, nice flow of neck, good bone.  His head is my type of head, strong, attractive and masculine.  Lovely dog.

2.      Lamb & Saltmarsh's Birselaw Fable Of Macmoon Shcm

Dark grey brindle with the best of heads.  Lovely expression. Well made, lively and happy.  Very good mover both ways.  Coat could do with a bit of a tidy up.

3.      Bateman & Sach Dandi Boy Spud

4.      Parkin's Roachdee Mystery Of The Full Moon

Puppy - Bitch

A nice class of puppies but some did not seem to be enjoying themselves on the day.  They were all young and so hopefully their confidence will come with age.

1.      Percy's Winetta I've Got A Feeling - Best Puppy & shorlisted in the Group.

I would very much like to take this one home with me!  She is balanced and typy and well made.  Head is good with a deep stop and expressive eyes.  She carried her head well and used her ears.  Her topline was level and she kept it on the move and she also carried her tail well.  Moved really well for one so young and won BP over the dog on the excellent rear movement.

2.      Wishart's Winetta Daisy Jane

Very feminine dark brindle in good coat of correct texture.  Adequate length and flow of neck, lovely head.  A very nice pup who was unlucky to meet winner on the day.  She is a lovely pup and just needs to be more confident in the ring.

3.      Wishart's Winetta Meant To Be

4.      Purvis' Mosspur Time After Time

Post Graduate Bitch

2.      Waites' Specially Designed By Svendalens - RCC

Feminine wheaten with a lovely reach and flow of neck, no stuffiness. Excellent double coat.  Level topline and good tailset.  Showed very well, moved true.
