NATIONAL DOG SHOW – 8 MAY 2016

CAIRN TERRIERS JUDGED BY MAXINE BENNETT (MAXIMAL)

I would like to thank the Committee of the National Dog Show for giving me the opportunity to carry out my first Championship Show judging appointment, to the stewards who had worked all day without a break and to the exhibitors who gave me the opportunity of judging their dogs.

Interpreting the breed standard I am a strong believer in correct movement, all of my winners demonstrated good true movement.  I was also looking for heads that really made my heart melt which all cairns should do.  Particularly in the dogs I found that muzzles are growing increasingly longer which is changing the look of the cairn.  Bitches conformed far greater to the breed standard.

I also believe that coats should be natural and not overdone.  Unfortunately I saw a lot of scissor lines; in truth in some odd places, it is such a pity.

Temperaments were, without exception, excellent. .

1st:Waugh, Tribuns Licoirice Coin At Tribannon (Imp) Dark brindle puppy giving a good outline, lovely head with good stop, correct dentition.  Good lay of shoulders.  Rear angulation gave strong rear drive, moved well holding top line.  It will be interesting to see how he grows up. BPD

2nd: Farwell, Svendalens Starry Knight.  Not as advanced as 1 and needs time for his front to settle down.  Shown in good coat and moved true from the rear

1st: Felters & Rumens, Landbuck Mister Tom.  Wheaten puppy shown in good coat, nice head with good stop and dark eye.  Good length of neck and good lay of shoulder.  Moved well holding topline.

2nd: Farwell, Svendalens Starry Knight

1st: Shopland, Trekhilli Mister Bean At Cherrycrack.  Dark brindle giving a good outline.  Lovely head with correct stop, dark eye and correct dentition.  Strong coat and looked like a natural cairn.  Moved the best in this class, true movement front and rear.  Animated throughout.  Liked him a lot and considered carefully for RCC.

2nd: Keeves, Seveek I Spied That Dream.  Red brindle who struggled to settle on the move.  Good head and stop, strong body with deep rib.  Overall preferred the movement of 1

3rd: Dennis, Svendalens Into Mischief

1st: Weinberger, Mrs S J Correnie Hurricane Fly.  Red brindle with a fabulous head, to my mind what a cairn’s head should look like.  Expressive, dark eye, good stop, correct ear placement and correct bite.  Good length of neck leading to excellent lay of shoulder.  Nice deep rib.  Moved with drive holding top line.  Movement true front and rear.  Coat shown naturally and not overdone.  Showed throughout with enthusiasm.  DCC & BOB

2nd:Parkin, Carradine My Mate Matthew.  Although different from 1 this did not detract from the qualities you would expect in a well put together cairn.  Very much reminded me of the “old fashioned” type of cairn shown in good coat and the correct size.  Lovely head and moved true both front and rear.  RCC

3rd: Parker-Tucker, Uniquecottage Winsford

1st:  Kinton, Woodthorpe I Know The Code. Grey brindle with good head and stop. Well turned out.  Good tailset.  Good rear drive holding top line well and won this class on showmanship and movement.

2nd: Drew, Tycadno Thriller At L'artiste.  Very similar to 1 with lovely head.  Preferred the movement and outline of 1

3rd: Bateman & Gompels,  Carradine Terries Tipple

Od (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st:  Currie, Stirlingview Superhero.  Wheaten with good head, nice ear placement.  Moved well but didn’t hold his topline so well on the move which spoiled his overall outline.

1st: Yates & Johnson, Pendley Vivien.  What a little cracker this puppy is and one to definitely take home.  Wheaten with lovely head and good stop, excellent length of neck leading to good lay of shoulders.  Moved true front and rear and held topline on the move.  Very showy and animated.  BPB & BP

2nd: Shannon & Storr,  Brenndarcy Cloudbusting.  A lovely puppy shown in good coat with many good qualities.  Overall good confirmation Not as advanced as 1 but none the less a good future beckons

3rd: Waites, Svendalens Knight's Passion

Jb (5 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Keeves, Seveek Hopes 'N' Dreams Jw.  Red with a lovely head and everything in the right place.  Good deep rib, well laid back shoulder and good body.  Once settled she moved well driving as a result of good rear angulation.  Strong double coat.  Showed with animation.  This was very strong class.

2nd: Short,  Splinterhill's Amazing Grace To Glenchess.  A smart dark brindle who gave a lovely outline.  Strong coat.  Moved well.  A close call between 1 & 2

3rd: Dolan, Glenrood Burlesque

Ugb (4 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: Osborn, Tweslam Gimme Gimme Magic. Wheaten with coat coming through.  Good movement front and rear, nice head and correct dentition

1st: Waugh, Andrum Brite Side.  I was very taken with this bitch mainly on her movement.  When she moved she virtually floated around the ring. Fabulous head with good stop, feminine expression and some attitude.  Good deep rib and held top line well on the move.  Although coat not at its best you couldn’t ignore the great qualities underneath.  She lost out on BOB as she was getting bored by the end. BCC

2nd: Osborn, Tweslam Born To Bewitch.  Red in strong double coat with good movement.  Liked her head a lot, good stop and dark eye.  Showed well with animation.  Good tailset

3rd: Drew,   Miketos Marvelous Fiona At L'artiste (Imp)

Lb (8 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: Robinson, Cruzo Corn Bunting.  Another strong class with this bitch taking it on movement.  Struggled a little to settle but when she did demonstrated good front and rear movement.  Nicely turned out in strong double coat.  Good head and expression, good length of neck and level topline.  Overall a good outline and animated.

2nd: Thomas,  Tycadno Miss Moneypenny.  A close decision with 1.  Preferred head on 2 but first place had it on movement.

3rd: Shannon & Storr,  Brenndarcy Fortune Teller

Ob (5 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: Dolan, Glenrood Scheherazade.  A well turned out pretty wheaten bitch who was game and alert.  Straight front with level topline.  Moved true front and rear.  Could have moved better in the challenge

2nd: Robinson, Cruzo Capriole.  A grey brindle with a nice head who rather let herself down when moving.  Nice outline

3rd: Owen,  Caldwall Carefree

Vb (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Usher, Stryveling Polly Flinders.  7 year old wheaten with sweet head.  Lively and animated and in good condition for her age
