CAIRN TERRIER ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW NOVEMBER 19, 2016 I regarded the invitation
to judge this show as a great honour and was delighted with the entry which
eventually turned out to be 96 dogs in total, plus 9 NFC. My thanks to the
Committee for the invitation and to the exhibitors for turning out in such
good numbers. I was impressed with the overall quality of the entry and, as
on the last occasion I judged the breed, found that more dogs and bitches than
I had expected, moved well in front. Heads were by and large pretty good but
size varies quite a good deal though is more in line these days in the UK,
than it is in some other countries. Veteran D/B (10, 1,) 1. Dolan’s
Ch Glenrood Masquerade a very pleasing bitch with an excellent head, scored
in front movement. Not overdone for weight, good foreface and strength of jaw. In good coat. Good tail
well carried. Good typical outline. Scored for showmanship 2. Felters and Rumens’ Ch Landbuck Jazz Hands, moved very well
behind and had good hindquarters with enough bend of stifle. Good small ears
correct breadth of skull. Better in front than 3 3. Inett’s Ch Carradine Come on Irene. MPD (2, 0) 1. Day’s
Trekhilli Pepperazzi, big enough for age and doesn’t need to grow on much,
showed greater maturity than 2. Very pleasing in head and expression. Good in
neck and good in topline. Coat coming on well for age, Movement needs time to
settle. 2. Shannon and Storr’s Brennindarcy
Aladdin Sane, needs time to develop and could do with just a shade more neck.
Needs to settle slightly more in the ring. Good size of head – not overdone there
– and good in forequarters. Coat also good for age. PD No Entries JD (4, 0) 1. Waugh’s Tribuns
Licorice Coin at Tribannon (Imp), not a small dog. Very pleasing outline and
has an excellent head and expression. Good ears. Good coat quantity and
texture. Good in topline and tailset. Enough bone for size. Could move better
behind but an upstanding dog with some presence about him. 2.
Shannon and Storr’s Brenndarcy Tinsoldat, another with an excellent head and
eye, moved better behind than 1 but not as good in front, Correct size and good coat, Could be a
shade smaller in ear. 3. Parker-Tucker’s
Uniquecottage Silver Askin ND (2, 1) 1. Parker-Tucker’s
Uniquecottage Gold Sherdon, a pity he was not concentrating on the job in
hand, OK on overall outline when he chose to show it, could be stronger in
head but good in coat. Moved better behind than in front. PGD (11, 1) 1. Shopland’s Trekhilli
Mister Bean at Cherrycrack, plenty of length of body and moved well in front
and behind. Not overdone for size and very good in head and expression with
the right amount of stop. Good neck and topline and tailset. Good coat. 2. Miller’s Cornton
Dark Corrie, an older dog with a very good Cairn head and expression. Plenty
of coat and scored slightly over 3 for overall type. Good shoulder, correct
rib and moved well behind 3. Yates
and Johnson’s Nordcairn’s Quiero Mucho of Pendley LD ( 12, 4) 1. Weinberger’s
Correnie Hurricane Fly, a very pleasing dog which scored here in front over
2. Good for size and body substance, Good head with correct skull, stop and
muzzle. Very good level back and tail carried OK without being overdone. Good
spring of rib and enough body length. Moved soundly in front and behind. Went
on to win the RDCC. 2. Waites’ Svendalen’s Perseverance with Lenrticia JW,
another of similar good size, and also good in head and ears, Tail carried a
shade high at times Good coat and moved well behind but not quite as positive
in front as 1. 3. Confue and Pavlova’s Anjofra Roulette
Russe OD (6, 1) 1. Kinton’s Ch
Woodthorpe I Know the Code, this dog caught my eye from the start especially
when moving around the ring. He has a very good typical Cairn head and expression.
He is also upstanding and is good in neck, backline and tail and tailset
without being over exaggerated in any of these respects. Good for size He is
very good in front movement and has good feet. I’d like to see him drive a
bit more behind and with more free flowing style there, but for me it was his
overall type and balance that took him to the DCC and BOB spot today. 2. Hughes and Hooton’s Gyncairn Magical Mystery, a very sound
dog with good lines. Not quite the head and expression of the winner but
strode out well and with drive. Good
topline and tail. Coat not really at its best. Moved out jauntily and good in
proportions with enough length. 3. Inett’s
Ch Carradine George Flies with Harkingleigh JW Special Beginners D/B ( 3, 1) 1. Williams’ Seveek Country Sunset,
a very good bitch whose coat was good for quantity but could have been more
harsh in texture, good shape and length, scored in head over 2 here with a
good expression and correct ears. Good bone and correct in front with good
movement all round, 2. Purvis’ Mighty Rearranger with Mosspur,
not quite the coat or head and expression of 1 but moved pretty well in front
and behind and OK in tail. Good rib and loin. 3. Davies’ Cloverbrook Harris Tweed. MPB (6, 1) I thought these
two had good qualities and were close up to one another 1. Miller’s Cornton
Star Turn, very pleasing youngster with a promising future, OK in skull for
age though in the challenge for best puppy bitch the older pup just had the
edge for maturity there. Good in coat for age. Enough neck and good level
backline with correct tailset. Very pleasing standing, and OK moving in front
especially when not looking up at her owner. Good bone and feet. 2. Petts’ Brenndarcy Hunky Dory another
pleasing one which didn’t quite have as much muzzle strength as 1 yet. Good
skull. Similar in body and proportions to 1 with good topline and tailset and
moved out well though not quite the rear movement of 1. Two good bitch
puppies. 3.Saich’s Lindcoly Let’s Just Talk. PB (7, 1) Another good
class with the first two very close. 1. Felters and Rumens’ Lentrica Fame at
Landbuck, pleasing expression with good skull and correct small ears. Good
topline and tailset and carriage. Correct rib spring and depth for age and
moved out well in front and behind. Well muscled hindquarters. Coat OK for
age. 2. Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn
at Gethlee, another pleasing youngster with enough stop but could be better
in eye, Good skull. Needs to be watched when standing to ensure she holds her
topline well. Coat coming on well. Good bone and moved up and down well. 3. Inett,
Harrison & Clayton’s Carradine Tinker Belle JB (7, 2) 1. Yates and Johnson’s Pendley Vivien,
very typey and scored a bit for size over 2. Good head and neck and with
enough stop and correct Cairn expression with good eyes. Good in rib and
enough body substance. Good tail and
tail carriage. Sufficient bend of stifle without being overdone there.
Pleasing shape and proportions. 2. Dolan’s
Glenrood Burlesque, slightly bigger than 1 but she too is very pleasing in
head and expression, not quite the front and style of 1 but moved well
behind. Good body and backline. Enough neck and good coat. 3. Shannon and Storr’s Brenndarcy
Cloudbusting NB (7 , 2) 1. Parker-Tucker’s
Uniquecottage Fennel, very pleasing in neck, topline and tailset. Needs time
to finish in head but OK in eye, good with of skull, Good in front and OK in
coat. Not carrying as much weight a 2 and moved out well in front and behind.
2. Clayton’s Carradine Here Comes Dolly, pleasing in head, good
neck and correct topline. Shown with just a shade to much weight which made
her look a shade light in bone. Moved rather better behind than in front. 3.
Saich’s Lindcoly Strong Enough. PGB (8, 2) 1. Country
Sunset. 2.Catto’s Birselaw Paige Turner, bigger bitch than 1 but very
pleasing for type and soundness. Really good in head and typical expression
and strong jaw. Good outline and proportions, Moved well in front and OK
behind. Enough bend of stifle and good in tail carriage. Coat not really at
its best. 3. Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage
Florey LB (7, 2) 1. Hughes and
Hooton’s Gyncairn Believe in Magic, very typey bitch with a good neck and
topline and excellent lines and scope. Good head with the right skull width
and enough stop. Moved well in front and behind with good flowing movement.
Enough but not too much stifle and plenty of muscle behind., Coat perhaps not
at its best but enough of it and OK for texture. Went on to challenge for BCC
and eventually took Reserve. 2. Waites’ Seveek Snow Angel at Svendalens JW,
scored in head over 3 here, Not quite the bone of 1 but good in
backline, Good feet. Good rib and
loin. Moved precisely but not quite the flowing movement of 1. 3. Shannon and
Storr’s Brenndarcy Moonstruck OB (9, 2) 1. Waugh’s Tribannon
Minuet, very good outline and showed well when kept on the move, OK for size
and has much type. Good head with correct eye and good small ears. Enough
strength of jaw. Good coat and moved out soundly in front and behind, Could
benefit from a shade less weight and is a bit of a handful to show but scored
for type, body shape and soundness. Went on to win the BCC. 2. Keeves’ Seveek I Dreamed a Dream, very
good in head and excellent expression with good head proportions and good
ears. Coat a bit lacking in quantity
but OK for texture. Stands well and moved out well in front and behind also 3.
