National Terrier Club Group Championship Show Saturday 2 April 2016 Cairn Terriers. I would like to thank The National Terrier Club
Committee for inviting me to judge the cairns at their 2016 Championship
Show. I would also like to thank my stewards for keeping me on track whilst
judging and lastly all the exhibitors for providing me with the opportunity
of going over their dogs. It is two years since I last judged the breed in
the UK and in general I found the exhibits had improved in many quarters, for
example movement and general conformation. However, there were quite a number
of examples where the characteristic head of the breed had lost its shape by
having muzzles a little too long and narrow. Surprisingly this has not had an
impact on incorrect bite, but some teeth are a little small. I do not wish to
promote very short muzzles as this can lead to other problems, but an average
width to length ratio is desirable. Coats today were a bit of a mishmash, but
probably due to the weather and time of year. MPD. (2,0 Abs). 1. Shannon and Storr’s, Brenndarcy Tinsoldat, 6
mth. red. This young dog impressed me no end and his conformation and bone are superb. He
already has a good head, which will broaden with maturity. His angulation, front
and rear, and his level topline provide straight movement fore and aft and is
reflected in his fluidity around the ring. A very promising future prospect. 2. Petts,
Doonrae One Step Beyond, wheaten youngster. Slightly longer in back than 1. A
nice dog with a pleasing outline, but just lost out on conformation and
movement today. PD. (1,0 Abs). 1. Felters and Rumens Landbuck Mister Tom, wheaten
with a balanced outline. Nice head and lovely neck flowing into well placed
shoulders. A level topline both static and on the move. Correct tailset and
rear angulation. Just settled in time to show his good movement and drive. BDP, BP. JD. (7,1 Abs). 1. Catto’s Birselaw Stay With Me, dark brindle.
Superb masculine head, broad muzzle, large teeth and correct bite. A good
reach of neck and level topline. A well balanced young dog with a profuse
harsh coat. Moved and showed steadily. 2. Keeve’s Seveek I Spied That Dream, a light red.
Good head and body conformation presenting a pleasing outline. An excellent
example of the breed who lost out to 1 on movement this time. 3. Smith’s Rocasovale Distant Drums. GD. (4,1 Abs). 1. Weinberger’s Correnie No No Romeo, dark red
brindle. A masculine well furnished head. Good neck and shoulders and level
topline. Correct tailset and rear angulation, all providing a well balanced
and sound moving example. Moved well, but needs to improve showmanship. 2. Thompson’s Castleline Barn Dance, wheaten, but a
little smaller than 1. A pleasing outline, level topline, good coat texture.
Lost out to 1 by some wayward movement today 3. Lamb and Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Dark Charmer. PGD. (6,1 Abs). 1 Waite’s Svendalens Perserverance JW. Dark brindle
with an impressive outline. Nice head with correct attributes. Good reach of
neck, level topline and correct tailset. Gave an excellent performance on the
move and thoroughly enjoyed himself. 2. Weinberger’s Correnie Hurricane Fly. Red brindle
slightly taller than 1. His
comformation was good all round and he presented a well balanced outline, but
he lost out to 1 as he did not perform as well on the move. 3. Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Winsford. LD. (5.0 Abs.). 1. Percy’s Winetta Sir Ivor. Dark brindle of good
size with a lovely head and keen expression. Good reach of neck and good
shoulder placement. Level topline, good spring of rib and correct tailset.
Good angulation both front and rear. Moved with enthusiasm and drive and held
his outline all the way. Look forward to seeing him in full coat. RDCC. 2. Drew’s Tycadno Thriller at L’Artiste, dark grey
brindle. Although another good example of the breed, did not quite match the
conformation and movement of 1, except his coat was in better shape.
Nevertheless, there was a lot to like, but was unlucky to meet 1 on this occasion. 3. Hughes and Hooton’s Gyncairn Magical Mystery. OD. (4,0Abs.). !. Inett, Harrison, King and Leighton’s Carradine
George Flies With Harkenleigh JW. Grey brindle with an excellent profile.
Masculine head with typical Cairn Terrier expression. His body shape and legs
were near perfectly balanced to provide the fluid movement and drive to
propel him round the ring. He did not show quite as well with his handler
today, but did enough for me to award him the DCC, BOS. MPB. (1,0 Abs.). 1. Shannon and Storr’s Brenndarcy Cloudbusting,
light red. What a delightful little bitch, so alert and full of beans. She
has an excellent balanced profile and good confirmation in all areas. A
little unsettled at times, but did enough to demonstrate good movement. BBP. PB. ( 5,0 Abs.). 1. Dolan’s Glenrood High Society, wheaten brindle.
Showed an excellent profile and carried herself well on the move, with level
topline. Feminine head and expression and in good condition and shape all
over. A little unsettled at times, but shows good promise for the future. In
the challenge for BBP she was again unsettled due to the presence of her
sister. 2. Catto’s Birselaw Paige Turner, Grey brindle with
profuse harsh coat. Presented a lovely balanced picture with a typical
feminine head. Moved well, but just lost out to 1 here, although she enjoyed
herself. 3. Thomson’s Castleline Caladonian Lass. JB. (10,1 Abs.). 1, Clarke’s Lentrica Dolly Daydream, Wheaten bitch
with an impressive outline providing a well balanced picture. Very feminine
head and pleasing expression. Level topline and straight front. There is
plenty to like and her movement is true and steady. 2. Dolan’s Glenrood Burlesque, light red. Another
smart example of the breed. Well put together with straight front and level
topline. Moved confidently and held her topline during her performance. A
close decision between 1 and 2. This puppy was mutually unsettled in the
challenge for BBP in the presence of her sister. 3. Keeve’s Seveek Hopes “N” Dreams. GB. (2,1 Abs.). 1 Waite’s Specially Designed By Svendalens, wheaten
bitch who was slightly overwhelmed by the occasion and hence not too keen to
show her best. The total performance was satisfactory, but I thought she was
a little overweight. PGB. (5,1 Abs). 1 Robinson’s Cruzo Corn Bunting, wheaten brindle. A
well presented quality bitch with a very pleasing head and neat ears.
Straight front and level topline. Correct rear angulation and tailset. Was a
little exuberant on the table, but steady enough to make an assessment. Moved
freely round the ring with drive and enthusiasum. I liked her a lot. BCC,
BOB. 2. Thomas’s Tycadno Morning Star, grey brindle, a
little larger than 1. Another quality exhibit although quite a handful for
her handler. There was much there to admire with an excellent profile and
true front and rear movement. 3. Waugh’s Andrum Brite Side. LB. (7,1 Abs.). 1. Hughes and Hooton’s Gyncairn Believe In Magic,
an attractive wheaten with dark points and feminine expression. Pleasing head
set on good reach of neck and clean shoulders. Presented a lovely balanced
picture. Moved freely and held herself well on the move. 2. Waugh’s Tribannon Minuet. Another quality
wheaten with good conformation all round. Gave 1 a strong challenge for
placing, but was piped at the post on movement. A happy show girl. 3. Thomas’s Tycadno Miss Moneypenny. OB. (4.0 Abs.). 1. Confue’s Anjofra Mad About Me. A smaller, well
balanced dark brindle close to the breed standard. A smart, spirited typey
girl, who enjoyed herself. Presented a pleasing outline with excellent
conformation. She moved freely around the ring enjoying her day out. Sound
throughout.RBCC. 2. Dolan’s Glenrood Schheherazade, a smart wheaten
bitch with an impressive outline. Straight front, level topline and good rear
quarters. Moved true fore and aft, but just lost out to 1 today in drive . 3. Coates Penticharm Starlight. Judge : Anthony Osborn. |
