Driffield Championship Show 2017 – Cairn Terriers

I very much enjoyed judging the Cairns today.  A small but quality entry.  The muddy and wet ground conditions stopped many from higher placements as you had to move with drive to cover the ground.  The lack of puppies is disappointing for the future of the breed.

JD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Reeves’ Cairngold Bubbles – Light red, liked his typical head & expression, neat ears & dark points.  Excels in front. Shoulders & topline.  Very well balanced outline & tailset.  Moved well when settled.

2nd: Owen’s Caldwall Call To Order – Well grown wheaten dog.  Masculine head, good spring of rib & body.  Correct tailset, coat not at its best today.

1st: Owen’s Caldwall On Call

PGD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Ball’s Lentrica Let's Dance At Calamondin – wheaten, attractive head & expression, dark points.  Balanced outline, excellent front & shoulders.  Moved well both ways.  Short of coat today but will do well when ready.

2nd: Day’s Trekhilli Pepperazzi – Dark brindle, bigger dog than 1.  Nice shape, good reach of neck.  Level topline.  Showed well.  Front movement OK but close behind.

LD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Tinsoldat – Red, beautiful head & expression, neat ears, dark points, good neck & shoulders, topline & tailset.  Moved Ok, in correct textured coat & condition.  Showed well, RCC.

OD (3 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: Mears’Glenmear Mcintyre – Dark brindle.  This dog’s outline was outstanding on the table.  Excelled in head, reach of neck & topline.  Plenty of bone & spring of rib.  In good coat of correct texture.  Showed well & moved very well when settled.  Pleased to award him C.C.

GCD NO ENTRIES

MPB (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: Keeves’ Seveek With Corynthean Sharing Dreams – 6 months wheaten with pretty head, dark eyes, neat ears & correct mouth.  Still very immature as would be expected & movement difficult to assess.  Needs more lead training and time.

PB NO ENTRIES

JB (4 Entries) Abs: 0 – A strong class.

1st: Firth’s Cairngold Carolina – Typical & well balanced, feminine & neat head with good stop.  Level topline & well carried tail.  Won this class on movement.  Showed well, coat of good texture.  Close up for R.C.C.

2nd: Petts’ Brenndarcy Hunky Dory Among Doonrae – Another promising bitch, attractive head. Very good neck & shoulders contributing to her good front movement.  In good coat & condition.

3rd: Miller’s Cornton Starr Turn

Res: Soper’s Elitecharm Five Of Diamonds

YB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Felters & Rumens’ Lentrica Fame At Landbuck  &

2nd: Firth’s Lentrica Black Star For Cairngold

Just thought how alike these two were only to see from the catalogue that they are litter sisters!  Both wheaten brindle at the moment, with lovely dark points.

First was Fame, well made body & correct length of coat & texture.  Both have good fronts & shoulders but preferred the hindquarters of 1st.

PGB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn At Gethlee – Wheaten, well balanced with excellent topline & tailset.  Moved well both ends.  Should win well when coat is ready.

LB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Cloudbusting – A lovely, typey bitch.  Full of character which shows in her head & expression.  Good front, neck, shoulders & topline.  In good coat & condition.  R.C.C.

2nd: Miller’s Cornton Rosemaree – Bitch of high quality & type.  Beautiful head with dark points.  Well made body & balance.  In lovely coat of correct texture.  Showed very well.  Hind movement lacked drive in the poor conditions today.

OB (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: Coates’ Penticharm Starlight – Grey brindle with very dark points.  Beautiful head & expression.  Balanced outline & well made throughout.  In excellent coat & condition.  Showed & moved with enthusiasm.  Pleased to award her C.C. & BOB.

2nd: Keeves’ Seveek Wishes N' Dreams JW Sh.CM – Red brindle, nice head with dark points, neat ears & correct shaped eyes & expression.  Well balanced & in good coat.  Moved OK but the ground was really terrible by the time judging had finished.

3rd: McGrath & Inett’s  Carradine Tinkerbelle For Owenreagh
