WINDSOR CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 1st
July 2017 What a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon,
judging Cairn Terriers in H.R.H.’s garden. I was disappointed to find that movement hasn’t
improved since I last judged 3 years ago. However, mouths, eyes and heads had
improved, but I was disappointed in the lack of muscle tone in the rear
quarters of a number of exhibits.
Coats appeared to be a problem with a lot of the exhibits, as quite a
few had ‘open coats’. On the whole I was very pleased with the quality of my
top winners. I must also mention that the breed in the ring
before Cairns had at least one bitch in season, which didn’t help the
movement of any of the Cairn dogs when they were going around the ring with
their noses to the ground!!! Thank you to my excellent stewards, Mick Brind
and Robyn Burnett for keeping everything on track. Veteran D/B (2, 0) 1 Felters
& Rumens, Ch. Landbuck Jazz Hands JW. 9½ years old, very feminine wheaten
and went around the ring like a 2 year old, and covered the ground effortlessly. Lovely feminine head and expression, best
of fronts, level topline and good tailset.
Her coat let her down on the day, but as they say that’s a transient
thing. Best Veteran 2 Graingers,
Ch. Devil in Disguise. 12 year old red, in profuse coat, but a bit soft in
texture. Lovely masculine head, good
topline and tailset. Not as alert and
active as 1, and was obviously feeling the very humid conditions, but still a
lovely lad. PD (3, 1) 1 Peers,
Tweedisle Lively Lad, 9½ months. Well grown wheaten brindle with lovely
outline and conformation. Good
masculine head, with big teeth, and lovely Cairn eyes that used to be typical
of the breed. Good length of neck,
level topline, and tailset spot on, well balanced. In good coat with well
muscled quarters. Room for improvement on his front movement, but he has
plenty of time on his side. 2 Inett
& Harrison, Bailey Bill at Carradine (NAF TAF). 7 month old Red brindle.
Giving away 2 months in this class and very much a baby. Good mouth, nice eye
and expression, would prefer a shorter foreface. Good topline and tailset, nicely balanced, best of coats. He wasn’t
too happy on the move and didn’t settle to do the job in hand. JD (1, 1) Absent YD ( 3, 0) 1 Shannon
& Storr’s, Brenndarcy Tinsoldat.
14 month old red in the best of coats. Good masculine head with
correct eyes, ear placement and well defined stop. Nice length of neck, deep
in brisket level topline, and good tailset. Well muscled quarters, moved
well. He will have his day. 2 Day’s,
Trekhilli Pepperazzi. 14 month old,
very dark brindle, another in very good coat. He has a superb masculine head,
deep brisket, level topline with a good tailset. He’s a little bit bigger all
over than 1, which I do like, but he wasn’t as positive on the move as 1.
Excellent showman. 3 Parker-Tucker’s,
Uniquecottage Silver Askin. PGD (5, 1) 1 Day’s,
Trekhilli Pepperazzi (see above). 2 Peers,
Tweedisle Tugman, Light red coat in good condition. Nice masculine head and expression with typical dark points,
level topline and correct tailset. Not as positive in rear movement as 1. 3. Thompson’s,
Castleline Barn Dance. LD (1, 0) 1. Parker-Tucker’s,
Anjofra Roulette Russe, stood alone, Grey brindle, with masculine head and
expression. Good length of neck flowing into correct shoulders. Good depth of
rib, level topline, good tailset. Didn’t move as well as I know he can. OD (9, 3) 1 Hughes
& Hooton’s, Ch. Gyncairn Magical Mystery. The ring was his. Very eye
catching wheaten, and really on his toes today. Strong masculine head with lovely expressive eyes, and neat
dark ears. Well presented in good coat. Good forechest, and deep brisket,
with good length of neck flowing into a spirit level topline, good tailset. Strong
muscular quarters, which enabled him to go around the ring effortlessly. C.C.
and BOB. 2 Weinberger’s,
Correnie Hurricane Fly. Red brindle, good textured coat. Masculine head and
expression. Very similar to 1, but he didn’t have the va, va, voom as 1 when
he was moving around the ring. RCC 3. Kinton’s,
Woodthorpe I know the Code. PB (6, 1) 1 Alexander’s
Coharra Check Me Out. 10 month old
dark brindle. Wow, what a little star with a head to die
for. Very feminine and mischievous expression, correct eye colouring, good
mouth and neat ears. Best of coats,
good topline and tailset, loved her outline. Went well on the move and showed
all out. Lovely show girl. – Best puppy. 2.
Shopland’s Cherrycrack Fair
Rosamund. 8 month old, wheaten
brindle coat, but on the blow. Lovely feminine head and expression, but
didn’t move or show as well as 1 on the day. 3.
Soper’s Elitecharm Five of Diamonds. JB (6, 1) 1 Petts
Brenndarcy Hunky Dory Among Doonrae. Clear red with dark points in excellent
coat. Very pretty feminine head, with the lovely soft expression. A striking bitch, who moved and showed
well for her handler. I loved her
outline and conformation. 2
McGrath’s Carradine Tinkerbelle for Owenreagh. Wheaten brindle in good
coat. Another with all the things in the right place, but not as ‘keen to
please’ as 1 today. 3.
Felters & Rumens Lentrica
Fame at Landbuck. YB ( 5, 0) 1.
Percy’s Winetta I’ve got a Feeling. Well presented wheaten brindle in the best of coats. Very
feminine head and expression. Lovely
outline, level topline, which she kept on the move, good tailset. Well
muscled quarters, with good angulation, which enabled her to move with drive
both for and aft. Showed well. R.B.C.C. 2 Shannon
& Storr’s Brenndarcy Cloudbusting. Well presented red with dark points in
good coat. Beautiful feminine head with correct eye and mouth, nice length of
neck good topline and tailset. Good depth of brisket, a little shorter in the
loin than 1. Another with well
muscled quarters, showed all out, a close decision. 3.,
Dolan’s Glenrood Spell Dance. PGB (4, 1) 1.
Osborn’s Tweslam Gimme Gimme Magic JW. Red with dark points in good coat and condition. Nice head and expression, good eye and
mouth. I Liked her outline and conformation, nice length of neck and good
depth of brisket. Topline and tailset spot on. Steady showgirl. 2
Clayton’s Carradine Here Comes Dolly.
Another red with dark points, a little short on head furnishings today,
and I would have preferred a bit more leg.
Good depth of rib and well muscled quarters. Steady on the move. 3.
Thompson’s Castleline Caledonian Lass. LB (7, 2) 1.
Keeves, Seveek Hope ‘N’ Dreams.
Red brindle with excellent coat. Very feminine head and expression,
good mouth. Nice flow of neck into correct shoulder placement. Good depth of
brisket, topline and tailset spot on.
Would like a bit more animation, Very nice bitch to go over. 2. Drew’s
Miketos Marvelous Fiona At L’ Artiste. Well presented rich red in
super coat. Very feminine head and expression with typical dark points on
neat ears. Nice reach of neck flowing
into good shoulder placement. Spirit level topline, and good tailset. Good depth of brisket. Moved and showed
well. 3.
Osborn’s Tweslam Born to Bewitch. OB ((7, 2) 1. Yates
& Johnson’s Pendley Vivien. Well
presented wheaten brindle. I have been itching to go over this bitch, and she
didn’t disappoint. Nothing exaggerated.
Beautiful feminine head with a most mischievous expression. Love her
confirmation and outline. Moved effortlessly, at one with her handler. B.C.C. 2. Hughes
& Hooton’s Gyncairn Believe in
Magic. Well presented wheaten in good
coat. Everything I have said about 1 applies to her. Moved freely and with
drive, not a lot between these two,
but 1 had the edge on the day. Chris Roberts (Mrs) Judge |
