Judges Critique Not the biggest entry of the year and
spoiled by absentees which would doubtless be the result of the poor weather
conditions. As usual with this lovely breed there was a lively ringside
and I have to say that although the numbers were not great, I did have some
lovely quality exhibits to go over. The BOB winning bitch was, I
believe, winning her 13th CC whilst the BOS dog was made up on the day.
And I had two super puppies, one of each sex, from which to choose BP, the
nod going to the dog in a photo finish. And finally the BV which was a
startlingly young 9 years old which had supped at the fountain of youth. PD (6/2) 1 & BP Firth's Cairngold
Chico what a lovely start to the day with this so very promising young
red dog. Lovely size, well weighted bone and a decent length of leg to
give him such balance. Lovely neck, he is well ribbed, decent loin,
beautifully set and carried tail and already has well muscled hams. His
head is a delight, sufficiently broad in skull, well defined stop, beautiful
mouth and teeth and well furnished. To complete the picture he has such good
eyes and neat ears. Spotless in coat, he is a consummate showman and
moved around the ring with a purposeful and cocky air. 2 Lamb & Saltmarsh's Birselaw
Come Dancing With Macmoon another really smart youngster with so much
to admire. Loved his head and expression, bright eyes and another which uses
his ears so well. Good reach of neck which aids his head carriage and
outline decent spring and depth of rib, level back &, correct tail set.
He was in excellent coat and just needs to be a little more composed on the
move. 3 Keeves' Seveek Treasure the Dream JD (3) 1 Peers' Tweedisle Lively Lad I just
hope this wheaten has stopped growing as I liked him a lot.
Beautiful headpiece, super neck and level back over a well sprung ribcage
leading to a confidently carried, well furnished tail. He was in really good
coat and moved around the ring with a light, positive stride and especially
good fore action. 2 Reeves' Cairngold Bubbly this light
red is on a smaller scale all through, though perfectly balanced. His head is
well proportioned but for me I would like a little more stop
definition. I liked his well set, neat ears and again really good
and very expressive eyes. Whilst he has a good spring of rib, he needs to
develop a bit in forechest as he is somewhat narrow when action fore
viewed. His rear action was so positive. 3 S. Treasure the Dream PGD (5/2) 1 Lamb &
Saltmarsh's Birselaw Dark Charmer for Macmoon ShCM medium sized very
dark, handsome headed youngster with such good length/height proportions
adding to his appeal. I would like his eyes to be a little larger but they
are a good shape and well pigmented. Level backed, such a good neck and
correct tail. He was on the tiptoe of expectation throughout and was
brisk and light footed as he circled the ring. 2 Owen's Caldwell On
Call this cream dog is just a little over furnished in head for
me. Skull broad enough, moderate stop, well shaped and coloured eyes,
ears could be carried a shade higher to aid his expression, really well
ribbed and boned with good feet and lovely, well muscled hindquarters.
Needs some ring training to settle him on the move as he is a bit erratic. 3
Parker-Tucker's Uniquecottage Silver Askin. LD (4/1) 1st Peers'
Tweedisle Tugman wheaten of excellent make and shape and he has that
air of being a good 'un! I really liked his head, such a good mouth and
foreface, well defined stop, eyes slightly deep set and so expressive.
He has a lovely ribcage, with ample width in forechest, was presented
in super jacket and was so well schooled and controlled on the move. He
certainly added to the quality of the line up for the CC. 2 Keeves' Saveek I Spied That
Dream very stylish but sadly very out of coat. I
appreciated his balanced head, lovely eyes and neat, wide set ears and he
does have that almost varminty expression. Ever alert he was a bit
unsettled in front action but will do much better when back in coat. 3 Ball's
Lentrica Let's Dance at Calamondin. OD (5/2) 1 & CC Mears' Glenmear McIntyre
won here on the quality of his head and expression. A real Cairn look, middle
sized, ample substance and well weighted bone throughout. His coat was
in super condition, he is so well ribbed and muscled and once on the move he
showed real balance and purpose as he swept around the ring with much
conviction. His handler is not the best in the world but the dog did
more than enough to convince me he was the best male here! Delighted to
hear that this win gives him his crown. 2 & Res CC Shannon & Storr's
Brenndarcy Tinsoldat this red dog is, I believe, sitting on 2CCs and
todays win makes it 6 or perhaps even 7 RCCs. He is certainly worthy of
gaining his crown and surely it should come 'ere long. I liked everything
about him as he has that air of quality, all male in outlook, so well bodied,
good neck and tail, strongly made hindquarters and so good in profile
action. For me he is shown with too much cheek hair which makes his
head appear heavier than it is and that made a tough decision easier.
But I wish him well. 3 Saich's Lindcoly Sword In The Stone. VD (1) 1 & BV Lamb &
Saltmarsh's Birselaw Fable of Macmoon ShCM 9 years old, in sparkling
body and coat, lovely headpiece, bright eyed and bushy tailed as he swept
around the ring with much gusto and almost leaving his handler breathless
with the pace he has. Lovely make and shape, well weighted bone and a
non stop showman. A real character. PB (10/2) 1 Thomas' Tycadno Dancing Star so
aptly named as this charmer is one with a very bright future. This clever
exhibitor always produces something that appeals to me. This youngster
has class written all over her. Loved her make and shape, undeniably
feminine in head and expression, so well constructed, sufficient rear
angulation and a very positive mover. Not yet so finished in coat as the dog
puppy but I'm sure she will make her presence felt very quickly. 2nd Robert's Cannwood Chance the
Moment another really very promising young cream and I expect she too will
have many successes in her career. Bags of style, so well schooled to make
the most of her many virtues. Loved her head and expression, well laid
shoulders, straightest of fore limbs, good feet and a spirit level backline.
Her jacket was immaculate and her profile action light with lots of
drive. Not quite so settled coming towards me as Star but that
will correct itself, I'm sure. 3rd Thompson's Glenrood Love In A Mist JB (5) 1 Soper's Elitecharm Five of Diamonds
lovely for size, balanced shape, delightful head and expression and she uses
her ears non stop. Her outline is so good, she was in good jacket and moved
around the ring so positively. A credit in presentation, she has attitude to
burn. Needs a little time to fill out in forechest to complete the
picture and be a threat to her elders. 2nd Saich's Lindcoly Hocus
Pocus wheaten brindle which for me is just a tad short in leg for her
rib depth. I liked her spring of rib, supple loin, correct tail and
well let down hocks. Here head is balanced, nice eyes, neat ears and in
excellent coat. When moving. not quite so collected as and lacking the rear
drive of the winner. 3rd Saich's Lindcoly The Boy Is Mine PGB (5/1) 1 Rouillon's Mistiguette De La
Terrardiere I liked his super little French bitch so very much. A real Cairn
head and expression, excellent neck, really well bodied, harsh jacket which
was superbly presented, level back, correct tail and she is so well
muscled. Never stops showing, has a purposeful "I'm in a
hurry" action as she circled the ring with such precision and
purpose. If only she had that tad more length of leg to give the
balance she lacks!!. Despite that shortcoming I felt her qualities had
to be rewarded. 2 Parker-Tucker's Uniquecottage
Fennel another with lots to like. For me not quite the stunning
eyes and expression of "Madame" but I liked her size, length/height
balance, lovely head carriage, excellent fore assembly and her sound action.
Shown in excellent coat and she is so at one with her handler. 3 Saich's Lindcoly
Let's Just Talk. LB (6/2) 1 Parker-Tucker's Uniquecottage
Florey I really did like this lovely bitch which has such an air of quality
about her with a delightful headpiece which just exudes Cairn type as I see
it So well put together in construction, well boned, lovely ribbing and
excellent tail carriage. She has a light, free, ground covering stride
as she circles the ring with such ease and purpose. Just played up a
little in the challenge but another which will surely go on to her title 2 Mistiguette De La T. OB (3) 1 CC & BOB Clarke's Ch Lentrica
Dolly Daydream JW, so shapely, ultra feminine in head, schooled and presented
to perfection. Never put a foot wrong, shows her head off constantly
and whenever I glanced her way she was looking statuesque. Truly a top
class example of the breed which was a delight to go over and once she
had moved around the ring I knew I had found my winner. I 2 & Res CC Dolan's Glenrood Spell
Dance similar in make and shape to the winner. Beautiful headpiece, delightful
expression, ample neck, clean, smooth backline, well muscled hindquarters and
so good in profile action. Not quite so steady when coming towards me
as Dolly but I still felt she was good value for the runner up spot. I
believe this is her 3rd Res CC. Keep trying! 3 Shannon &
Storr's Brenndarcy Cloudbusting VB (1) 1 Saich's Lindcoly
Here's Olive. red which is a credit for her 10 years. Smart as paint,
lovely bright expression, has retained a fit and healthy body shape and is
still light footed as she moves around the ring. Albert Wight |
