Terrier Critique Driffield
Championship Dog Show 21st September 2019 I would
like to extend my thanks to the officers and committee for inviting me to
judge at this lovely show, and I also thank my stewards for their sterling work.
Also, many thanks to the exhibitors, some of whom travelled a long way to
show their Cairns under me. I judged a quality entry with no absentees, all
with super temperaments. My principal
winners were, in my opinion, all excellent examples of the breed. Veteran Dog
(1,0) Lamb and Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There
and Back Again under Macmoon Sh.CM A dark brindle dog, almost nine years
old. Typical expression, correct eye and mouth. Well set on neck with good
shoulder placement, level back and adequate stifle. Moved steadily both ways.
A happy showman enjoying his day. Best Veteran. Minor Puppy Dog (0) Puppy Dog (1,0) Williams’ Glenchess
High Fidelity for Sarson. An eleven months old brindle puppy
with a mischievous expression and correct eye and mouth. Well proportioned
throughout, just needs to settle in front movement. Junior Dog (2,0) 1) Petts’ Doonrae Quiet Storm A 14 month wheaten who impressed as
he entered the ring. Masculine head with typical dark points. Keen
expression, strong jaw and correct bite. Correct sloping shoulder, good bone,
level topline, supple loin and good bend of stifle. Tail well set. In good
condition. Moved well and with drive both ways. Pushed hard for the CC but
ultimately had to give way to the maturity and finish of the open class
winner. One to watch. R.C.C. 2) Felters and Rumens’ Landbuck
Kingsman A 13 month old brindle dog with an
attractive head, dark points, well set on neck flowing into sloping
shoulders. Well balanced throughout with good bone and correct tailset.
Correct coat. Moved steadily. Yearling Dog (0) Post Graduate Dog (1,0) Lamb and Saltmarsh’s OSW Birselaw
Come Dancing with Macmoon JW Sh.CM SHCEX A well presented dark brindle dog.
Masculine head with good earset, correct mouth with strong jaw, well set on neck
with correctly placed shoulders, well balanced with level topline and
tailset, which he held on the move. Moved steadily both ways. Limit Dog (0) Open Dog (4,0) An excellent class. 1)Kinton’s Ch. Woodthorpe I Know the
Code A grey brindle dog with a superb,
well furnished masculine head. Correct stop, large teeth and scissor bite.
Good shoulders, level topline, well sprung rib and good bone. Very free in
movement both ways. Please to award him the C.C. 2) Owen’s Caldwall Call to Order A cream male with lovely masculine
head. Plenty of neck going into good shoulders, well ribbed with strong loin.
Covered the ground well both ways. Considered him in the challenge. 3) Waugh’s Ch. Tribannon Karamak 4) Lamb and Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Dark
Charmer for Macmoon Sh.CM Special Beginners Dog (0) Good Citizens Dog (0) Veteran Bitch (2,0) Two lovely veterans. 1) Smith’s Glenmear Sproxton Lass of
Gethlee A nine year old dark brindle bitch
with a lovely expression. Well
balanced and presented in good condition, and had correct double coat. Moved
steadily both ways. A happy showgirl. 2)Purvis’s Svendalens Memoire Cherie An eight year old dark brindle bitch,
pretty head, correct eye, strong muzzle and presented In good condition with
a harsh double coat. Moved steadily. Minor Puppy Bitch (0) Puppy Bitch (1,0) 1) Kinton’s Cloverbrook Unbreakable
at Woodthorpe A beautiful 9 month old cream brindle
puppy straight out of the top drawer. Correct eye, large teeth with correct
bite and a mischievous expression. Good forequarters, well balanced with
correct ribs and supple loin. Correct bend of stifle and well let down hocks.
Moved well both ways and was playful, happy and confident – just as a Cairn
puppy should be. An exciting prospect. B.P Junior (0) Yearling Bitch (1,0) 1) Ballinger’s Cloverbrook Maid for
Gold A cracking 23 month old dark brindle
bitch who impressed as she entered the ring. A feminine head with absolutely typical
expression, with dark eye, an excellent stop and super mouth. A sound bitch
throughout. Well placed shoulders and correct front, good bend of stifle and
well let down hocks. An excellent coat. Moved correctly and with drive both
ways. Alert and on her toes at all times. One to watch in the future. Well
handled to the R.C.C. Post Graduate Bitch (1,0) 1) Lund’s Cairngold Brandy Snap A smart, well balanced, red bitch.
Feminine head with dark eye, correctly placed dark ears and correct mouth.
Neck well set on, correct shoulder placement, level topline and correct
tailset. Moved steadily both ways. Very well schooled and handled. Limit Bitch (2,0) 1) Roberts’ Cannwood Chance the
Moment A feminine wheaten bitch with good
eye, stop, strong jaw and correct bite. Lovely size and outline. Well
presented with an excellent coat. Moved steadily both ways. A lovely quality
bitch who moved well. Would have
liked more animation in the challenge. 2) Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn at
Gethlee A lovely cream with nice head and
expression. Correct height, angulation and length of back. Well balanced
throughout. An honest bitch with lots to like. Unlucky to meet the class
winner today. Open Bitch (2.0) 1) Cloverbrook Creating Waves An outstanding cream bitch with a beautiful,
feminine head and dark points . Expressive eye, good stop, strong jaw, large
teeth and scissor bite. Correct reach of neck flowing into sloping shoulder,
good bone, excellent topline and tailset. Good bend of stifle, well let down
hocks and presented in top condition with a good coat. Maintained her excellent balance and
outline on the move, and moved with drive both ways with plenty of energy and
enthusiasm – she certainly impressed as being ‘active, game and hardy’.
Another super Cairn from this clever breeder. C.C; B.O.B. 2) Soper’s Elitecharm Five of
Diamonds An attractive bitch; a different type
to the class winner. A correct head, well set on neck and correct shoulder
placement, well balanced throughout. Presented in good coat and condition,
moved satisfactorily and showed steadily for her handler. Special Beginners Bitch (1,0) 1) Purvis’s Svendalens Memoire
Cherie, Best Special Beginner Good Citizens Bitch (2,0) 1) Lund’s Cairngold Brandy Snap, Best Good Citizen 2) Purvis’s Svendalens Memoire Cherie Helen Greenhalgh, Judge |
