MIDLAND COUNTIES - 2019

CAIRN TERRIER

This was a very special assignment for me. Thanks to an invite from Margaret Everton supported by Leslie Page, I judged my very first Terrier Group here many moons ago, then my very first Best in Show a few years later - and coming to the show this year I felt they were both really missing! Rodney Price was always one of Margarets favourite people and she would be pleased and proud how well he and his team run this show with passion, with great consideration for exhibitors - and even judges! Thanks to all involved for making this a very memorable weekend, and not least, Mrs Ann Trott who runs the hospitality side with great authority!!! Love her! As you probably know, this is one of the breeds where there is a considerable difference in some major points between AKC & UK standards. But even within the GB there has always been a great variation between some breeders as to what is correct and what is not. Although there were considerable variations re. types and sizes, I thought my winners all worthy representatives of their breed.

JD 1 Carradine Kenda Kairn. Lovely type and outline. Not a big one. Lovely head and expression, good overall proportions, body, bone and tailset. In good coat, moved well. 2 Doonrae Quiet Storm. He has a good topline and moved well. Bigger and rangier than winner. Head and foreface could be stronger, needs to mature, but has time on his side. 3 Landbuck Kingsman.

PGD 1 Birselaw Come Dancing With Macmoon JW. Excellent type, head, expression, body and topline. Moved well from the side and behind, a little wide in front. Loved his style, temperament and showmanship. 2 Carradine Whiskey Mac. Nice type with a pleasing outline, head needs to improve, but ok body, bone and moved well.

LD 1, CC & BOS, Cairngold Chico JW. Loved him. Excellent type, head, neck, body, topline and tailset. Great showman who moved very well. In excellent coat and condition. 2 Carradine Whiskey Oscar. Lovely type, excellent head and expression. Good topline and he moved very well. Would like more legs, but excellent coat and condition.

OD 1 & Res CC, Ch Tribannon Karamak. Stood out in this class. This dog has a lovely outline, typical head and expression, excellent neck, topline and tailset. Coat texture excellent. Moved and showed well. Made the BD contest very interesting! 2 Trekhilli Pepperazzi. Nice type of dog who has a balanced head with good expression.Good topline and tailset, but carried to much weight which I think made him look bigger than he really is. Moved ok 3 Trekhilli Mr Bean At Cherrycrack.

VD 1 Ch/Ir Ch Tycadno I Spy. Excellent type head and topline. In good shape for his age although carrying too much weight. Lovely temperament and moved ok.

MPB 1 & BP, Cairngold Chakira. 7 months old, very pretty and promising. Lovely head and expression, balanced neck, good topline and tailset. Moved well round the ring, but rather loose in front. Lovely temperament.

PB 1 Cairngold Chiquitita. Red/wheaten. Good neck, body, topline and tailset. Moved well from the side, but still very “puppyish” in front. Excellent coat and condition. 2 Carradine Shinealite. Very pretty and feminine, but altogether more immature from head to toe. Would like more neck, but she moved and showed well.

JB 1 CC & BOB, Birselaw Walk With Me. And I did! Lovely type and in my opinion perfect balance between height, length of body and substance. Attractive head and expression, good length of neck and good tailset. Looked lovely going round the ring and was in excellent coat and condition. 2 Pendley Dinah. Excelled in type and going round the ring looked impressive. Excellent head and expression, good body and topline. Front movement at this stage rather erratic, but hopefully this will improve with age. Shown in great coat and loved her keeness and attitude.

PGB 1 Tycadno Yours Truly. Brindle girl who has an ok head and expression. Overall balance ok. Moved and showed well. 2 Cairngold Brandy Snap. Very showy girl who has an ok head, neck and body. Moved ok from the side, but rather untidy in front. Lovely temperament. 3 Cannwood Call Me Aggie.

LB 1 Birselaw Viking Princess. Excellent type, size and overall balance. I liked her head, expression, topline and coat. Moved and showed well. A strong contender for top honours. 2 Cannwood Chance The Moment. A very attractive light wheaten who looked so nice going round the ring. Fair head but loved everything else about her including temperament, showmanship and movement. In excellent coat. 3 Penticharm Knight Star.

OB This class was headed by two very lovely bitches. 1 Elitecharm Five Of Diamonds. Very attractive and showy. Excellent neck, topline, tailset, coat and temperament. 2 Ch Brenndarcy Hunky Dory Among Doonrae. Made a lovely silhouette going round the ring. Typical head and expression, good body, bone and tailset. A little untidy in front, but moved very well behind and from the side. 3 Carradine Jo.

VB 1 Glenmear Sproxton Lass Of Gethlee. Dark brindle, 9 years old. Pleasing head, neck and proportions. In great form for her age.
