Cairn
Terrier Club Championship Show 2021 It is approaching 41 years this easter that
I attended my first dog show, The Cairn terrier club open show at Clarkston
public halls in Glasgow. Never in my wildest dreams did I think one day I
would stand in the middle of the ring and have the opportunity to judge my
fellow peers' exhibits. For me there is no greater honour than judging a club
show but the parent club appointment is the ultimate and I thank the
committee for this opportunity. It is 3 years since my last appointment and I think it is safe to say
all exhibits were new to me. My main observations from the day were some heads lacked a good stop
and a few had longer muzzles than I like, I found no incorrect mouths.
Movement as always could have been better and a few did have very long hocks,
coats were on the whole good and none were over presented, A few could
improve with some ringcraft but covid had a part to
play here. And others were a bit heavy and this didn’t help their chances I was very pleased
with the excellent temperaments on show and I enjoyed working through the
entry and thank all those who made the long journey. Class 1: Special Veteran dog or bitch (2 1abs) 1st Miller’s Cornton Dark Corrie Brindle with a good head and expression, in lovely coat and condition,
nice size appeared to be enjoying his day out. Best veteran. Class 2: Minor puppy dog (5, 1 ab) 1st Waugh’s Glenrood Galaxy of Tribannon Very promising brindle with a lovely head and expression, good stop
and neat ears, nice neck and shoulders, level topline, moved well when he
settles down, in good coat and condition, very happy to award him best puppy
in show and hopefully a bright future lies ahead. 2nd Cattos Birselaw The Miller’s Dance Another nice puppy of good sire, fairly well balanced and shown in a
good coat of quality, liked his bone legs and feet and moved well behind. Not
the head of the winner, but has time on his side. 3rd Inett’s Carradine Pickled Onion Class 3: Puppy dog (3 1ab) 1st Petts’ Doonrae Sentinel Red brindle with a masculine head and expression, very extrovert
showman who has a decent spring of rib, good topline, moves well behind but a
little close in front, well schooled and gives his
all for his handler. 2nd Saich’s Lindcoly
Indiana Jones Very much a baby. Needs some ringcraft. Has
a quality coat and gave glimpses that he can move, needs time and confidence Class 4: Junior dog (1) Shannon, Storr and Middlehurst’s Brenndarcy It’s Magic AI Just turned a year old, stylish youngster in good coat, balanced head
with masculine expression, nice depth and spring of rib, level topline and
good tailset. Moved with purpose on good legs and feet, looked like a
teenager in the challenge against the open dog as you would expect but full
of promise and more than happy to award him the Rcc
good times ahead. Class 5: Yearling dog (1) 1st Saich’s Lindcoly
Outta Sight Brindle, not happy moving on the shiny floor and a bit reluctant
standing on the table, needs time and patience Class 6: Post-graduate dog (2, 1 ab) 1st Munday’s
Lentrica Mystic Warrior Brindle on his toes throughout, masculine head and expression, good
mouth, neck and shoulders level topline with tail on top, well ribbed, good
hindquarters, moves fairly well and shown in decent coat, could lose a little
weight Class 7: Limit (2, 2 ab) Class 8: Open dog (4 2abs) 1st Firth’s Ch Cairngold Chico JW Mature red of correct size, lovely well
proportioned head with nice expression, nice neck and shoulders,
excellent depth and spring of rib, keeps a level topline, moves well forth
and aft on good legs and feet, cooperated well with his handler and looked
every inch the champion he is with a well presented coat in super condition. CC
+ BOS 2nd Dennis, Waites & Goddard’s
Good Times Ahead with Oudenarde Lots to like about this brindle, very typical head and expression,
moves soundly and shows all out. Has a good depth and spring of rib, keeps a
level topline and gives his all for his handler for me he is up to size and
heavier set than I would like, could lose some weight to advantage. Class 9: Special Beginners dog or bitch (1) 1st Irwin’s Carradine Corwin Zoe Lovely wee bitch full of character, very nice head and expression,
nice size, good ribcage, sound in movement, nice type with a new coat she
could have some fun in the ring well handled. Class 10: Minor Puppy Bitch (4) 1st Saich Lindcoly
Maleficent Maureen (N.A.F) I liked this 6 month old puppy, so full of mischief, she has a very
pretty head and expression, she has a lovely balanced shape and keeps a good
topline when settled moves well for one so young. Nice bone, legs and feet,
in a lovely jacket, shows all out Best puppy Bitch 2nd Goud’s Breerykinghussie Molly Connell Another baby six month on the day, brindle nice type with a pretty
head and expression, she has a lovely coat, handles well on the table,
and put on a good show on the move, interesting prospect hope she grows on . 3rd Inett and Harrison’s Carradine Precious Pumpkin Pie Class 11: Puppy bitch (2 2abs ) Class 12: Junior bitch (2) 1st Waugh’s Glory Daze at Tribannon, This 16 month old has the most stunning head and expression. On the
table she is so nice to go over, balanced and oozes quality. She has a lovely
profile whilst moving around the ring, drives from strong hindquarters needs
to settle a little in from which I am sure will come, she was shown in
excellent jacket and her presentation was spot on. Surely a star in the
making, delighted to award her the Rcc and RBIS, my
type of cairn. 2nd Saich’s Lindcoly
Whats It All About Brindle with a nice head and expression, good mouth, very much a baby
and needs time to settle and gain her confidence Class 13: Yearling bitch (2) 1st Shannon and Storr’s Doonrae Rebel Rebel
among Brenndarcy So much to like about this young lady, who seemed rather unsettled in
this class. Lovely head with a real varminty
expression, very well balanced, nice size and moves well when her mind is on
the job. In a lovely coat and condition and beautifully presented. Lovely Cairn. 2nd Saich’s Lindcoly
Witches Brew Brindle who put on a good show, nice type not the of
one. But positive in movement and shown in good coat Class 14: Novice Bitch (1) 1st Carradine Corwin Zoe Class 15: Post-graduate bitch (4) 1st Thompson’s Castleline Maitree Beautiful head and expression, nice neck and shoulders, level topline,
good tailset and nice depth of rib, moves soundly. A lovely bitch who gave
her handler 100% presented and shown in excellent coat and condition. I liked
her a lot. 2nd Miller’s Cornton Fyne Hope Another lovely bitch with many attributes, very typical with a lovely
head and expression. Moves well on good legs and feet. Presentation was 1st
class. Initially thought she would be my winner but could lose some weight to
her advantage, pity. 3rd Saich’s Lindcoly
Miss Echo Class 16: Limit Bitch (2) 1st Felters & Rumens’ Landbuck La Voix Without doubt a stunning example of a Cairn bitch.
Ideal size, Beautiful head with varminty
expression, lovely eyes and good stop, she is full of charm and mischief.
Balanced throughout, she moved so well once she settled down on a loose lead,
in tip top condition I was totally captivated by her personality and was
compelled to award her the CC and BIS. I suspect both she and the junior will
have many good days this year. 2nd Petts’ Rasken’s Joan Jett for Doonrae
(Imp sweden) Another nice red bitch, slightly larger in frame than the winner. But
much to admire, feminine head and expression, nicely balanced and was nicely
presented, gave her handler full attention Class 17: Open Bitch (2) 1st Inett and Harrison’s Carradine Jo Dark bitch of a lovely type, super head and expression, nice neck and
shoulders with a level topline. Good tailset and mature in body, moves well
both ways. Shown in a proper quality coat. I liked her a lot and on another
day I would have been happy with her as my winner, but I was captivated by my
limit and junior, surely she should gain her title. 2nd Firth’s Cairngold Chiquitita Red different type to Jo but again so much to admire, feminine in head
and expression, good neck and shoulders, balanced throughout. Moves well on good legs and feet and coat was presented in
good order, a real quality bitch. Iain Shaw Judge |
